LPRng and SAMBA
First of all, thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far resolving my samba problems! The latest has to do with LPRng and directory permissions. LPRng requires 0600 permissions on the spool directory, owner daemon group daemon. Whenever a user tries to print through SAMBA, they do not have write access to the spool directory, as teh job comes in user/group of the person who printed. Any

Samba & LPRng: Printer Status in Windows
I know this question has been answered here a while back, but I have not been able to find the mailing with the posts on it. -----==========----- I have a redhat server that I am using as a file/print server for student use. I am using samba to help the users with Windows. The problem I have is that when using printing a user can submit a print job, and it prints fine, but cannot see the

LPR or LPRng or CUPS
I'm converting my NT 4.0 Print Servers to Samba Print Servers. Which printing system should I be using? LPR, LPRng or CUPS. I would love to have some feedback on the advantages and disadvantages or what the Samba Team recommends as a standard for working wih Samba. In case you need it, my system is SuSE 7 kernel 2.2.16 running under VM on s/390. Thanks, Josh Konkol, CNE MCSE Senior

LPRng
I have a redhat 9 server I would like to migrate (install Centos on a new machine, and move the necessary files) to Centos 5. On the RH9 machine, I use LPRng for printing. This was mainly choosen because it makes it easy to control access to the printers using /etc/lpd.perms, something I never figured out how to do in cups. All printer queues are raw printers, the printer driver in Windows takes

printing = lprng working?
Hi I updated samba today to 3.0.5. Printing stopped working. The log says: [2004/08/02 14:28:57, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_printer_fn(108) Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost - Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt I'm using lprng not cups. Is samba ignoring printing = lprng? I tested lpr it still works as usual. Is there anything else I should check? Thanks. Best, Hans

Fwd: "Make_passthrough: pid XXXX, dup2(6, 0) failed" with LPRNG 3.8.C and Samba 4.3.8 on FreeBSD
(FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p4 i386, Lprng 3.8.C and Samba 4.3.8 installed via pkg()) I have set up a PDF converter queue that converts PS input to PDF and puts it on its website. Recently I had samba join the AD domain here, and ever since my pdf converter fails. Upon much trial, error and debugging I found out that when I start the Lprng service BEFORE the Samba service, everything is working.

LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at localhost is it?> Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either! Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I call this printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file> Here is a copy of part of my

Postfix pages
First I would like to thank everybody who has contributed to the Postfix pages so far. I recently undertook replacing our existing mail server (which used the CentOS 4 howto at hughesjr.com) with a new machine running CentOS 5 in Xen. The machine is actually running two Xen images: mail and web server (the old machine did both functions in one install). I have done two things that go beyond

LPRng: FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
It's not only the name, I just found out... I have an OfficeJet 570, and the following entry in my smb.conf would result in a persistent Paused status: [HP570] comment = OfficeJet 570 by HP450C Plotter path = /var/spool/samba/hp570 writeable = no printable = yes printer name = hp570 use client driver = no Changing the comment to "HP570

LPRng and Samba -- Still
I've found a solution to this problem I think should work... but... doesn't. Take a look at the smb.conf man page: %u user name of the current service, if any. %U session user name (the user name that the client wanted, not necessarily the same as the one they got). ...so far so good. Well, LPRng handily includes a way to set who is printing the

LPRng: LPRng and Samba (fwd)
I'm looking for a little help with Samba and LPRng, however, the LPRng portion of it isn't really all that important -- I believe this is mainly a Samba issue. The problem here is that we have 4 campus servers. Each one hosts a Samba domain. Sometimes, users for whatever reason will go to a different campus (where they may or may not have an account -- the problem occurs when they do

LPRng and Samba: Problems with print queue administration
Hi, could it be that recent versions of samba have some problems when collaborating with LPRng? I have a bunch of windows clients printing via Samba and LPRng and ran into the following problems: - In my environment it is desirable that people can kill other people's print jobs. LPRng is configured accordingly and works correctly. The corresponding Samba shares have no restrictions on

LPRng security
Hi all, I just looked into LPRng to see to what extent it is affected by the problems recently reported for the BSD lpd. It seems that it is fairly safe from those mentioned in the SNI advisory. > Problem 1: File creation > > Individuals with access to the line printer daemon from a privileged > port on a valid print client can tell lpd to create a file, providing > the name of

Bidirectional printers, LPRng, and Samba...
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions on getting some JetDirect-based printers set up for bidirectional printing in Samba? We're using LPRng 3.8.0, ifhp 3.4.7, and samba 2.2.2 From the LPRng standpoint, the printers seem to be set up for bidirectional communication fine.. but how do we get Samba to allow bidirectional communication? Thanks in advance! Glenn --- Glenn E. Sieb,

lprng printing fails to connect to cups
Hi. I have a debian wheezy with samba 3.6.6-6. Before updating to wheezy I had samba configured with LPRNG printing. Now I can't use the printers, it looks like samba is trying to connect to cups even it is configured with another printing system. This is the error spotted when I try to install the printer in a Windows 7 PC. Windows XP works fine.
