CentOS 5 dual boot with XP success
Hello. A happy, error-free report about my experiences last night. Only one small inconvenience in the install. I have an AMD Athlon64 3700+ in a MSI Neo2-F motherboard (Via K8T800 Pro chipset), with a WD Raptor SATA drive and an older WD 80gig IDE drive. The system has 1 gig of RAM and a CDROM (not DVD). The on-board network is a Realtek 8169/8110 chip. My video is a 6800GT (AGP). The BIOS

Vmail & Snom 190s
Hi all, I got a couple of Snom 190's through this week and after some initial foolishness I have them both setup no problems. But here comes the except. When there is voicemail waiting the softbutton appears but the phone always dials its own extension. No matter what I put into the "mailbox" parameter on the line settings. (Phone registers correctly with * and all standard

syslog console log not logging SCSI problems
One of our FreeBSD boxes has a SCSI controller and disk, which showed problems earlier this week. There was a lot of of chatter from the SCSI driver in /var/log/messages and to the console. However, the console is unattended and we only discovered the problem subsequently because /var/log/console.log didn't show any of the chatter. console.log is otherwise working, and very helpful (e.g. it

error message when downloading packages using the OS X shell
Hi Fellow R Users, I recently upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5 (Snow Leopard) and had some issues downloading and running R 2.10.1. I fixed the tcl/tk problem I was originally having but it was replaced with another. I run R out of the shell (terminal) and when I ask it to download.packages() it gives me the following message: *Loading Tcl/Tk interface ... done* *Error in file.info(x) : argument

Failing to understand getrusage()
I'm failing to understand how getrusage() works, which is a bit perplexing, because it doesn't seem like it would be terribly complicated. I've attached the code. My aim is to verify that I can use getrusage() to do (admittedly crude) instrumentation of which functions in my program are allocating lots of memory[1]. So I figure I can call getrusage() at various points and look at

loop is going to take 26 hours - needs to be quicker!
Dear R-help, I have a loop, which is set to take about 26 hours to run at the rate it's going - this is ridiculous and I really need your help to find a more efficient way of loading up my array gpcc.array: #My data is stored in a table format with all the data in one long column #running though every longitute, for every latitude, for every year. The #original data is sotred as

upside down image/data
Dear R-community, I am looking for some simple advice - I have a matrix (therefore 2 dimensional) of global temperature. Having read R-help I think that when I ask R to image() or levelplot() my matrix will it actually appear upside down - I think I therefore need to use the line: > levelplot(temperature.matrix[,ncol(output.temp):1], ........) to get it looking like it was on the globe due

folders via softlink
I have recently switched from the UW imap server to dovecot and things seem to be working nicely. One thing that I can't seem to figure out however, is how to get dovecot to show folders that are a softlink. We run SpamAssassin. Users can use both their own personal spam folder as well as a shared spam folder. For messages that everyone would consider spam, the user can simply drag the

pnorm conditional (PR#2883)
--=-YFjXKq8/D/t1qWmIzQ9D Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I was going over the source in src/nmath/pnorm.c and noticed a little bug in pnorm_both (in R 1.7.0). The else-if on line 205 covers the entire real line. Seems you want an &&, not an ||. Doesn't make a big difference (you still get a 0 or 1 from extreme starting values) but your log

thicker axis in levelplot
Dear R-help community, I need to find out how to make the black axis line around my plot thicker in levelplot, I cannot find the correct command in ?levelplot or ?par - or if it is there I cannot get it to work - any help would be more that appreciated! Here's an example script - I would want the code for making the axis bordering the plot thicker: x<- seq(pi/4, 5*pi,length=100)

how do you interpolate a gaussian grid to a standard 2.5 degree grid?
Dear R-help community, I have looked on the R search site and archives but cannot find mention of a way of interpolating a gaussian distribution of data to a standard 2.5 degree grid. I have two global dataset and I need to correlate - unfortunately one is a 2.5 degree grid dim[longitude=144,latitude=72] and one is gaussian dim[longitude=192,latitude=94]. I would rally appreciate hearing

Tobit analysis
Having read previous correspondance on this topic, am I right in using a gaussian distribution for a tobit model, one article suggests a normal distribution? Also, I want to censure at the upper bound, so, using the survival5 package I use: survreg(Surv(y,y<c,type="right")~x) for a censored regression. Could anybody who's had experience of this, confirm whether I'm in the

random numbers selection - simple example
Dear R-help, Which random number generator function would you recommend for simply picking 15 random numbers from the sequence 0-42? I want to use replacement (so that the same number could potentially be picked more than once). I have read the R-help archives and the statistics and computing book on modern Applied statistics with S but the advice seems to be for much form complicated

Overlaying a single contour from a new data array in levelplot
Dear R-Help community, I am trying to overlay a single contour line over a correlation plot using levelplot in the lattice package. These are the two arrays: 1) a correlation plot over Africa - so each grid square is a different colour dependent on correlation - this is in an array: result_cor with dim[465,465] 2) a single contour line from a ***different data source*** - this is from data
