ControlPersist.
This is a better approach to persistent control masters than my previous
attempt. Instead of forking before we make the connection, do so only
when the original session has closed -- much like the code for '~&'
backgrounding already does.
My earlier patch for 'ControlPath none' still applies and is required, btw.

ControlMaster auto and stderr
I use ControlMaster auto (along with ControlPath) in my ssh config and
find it very handy.
I have noticed an annoying behavior, though: it seems that if there is
no existing master connection and ssh creates a new one, the master
connection process that is started has its stderr left open.
This has manifested itself in two ways so far:
(1) When using ssh day-to-day, I may be doing some work and

ControlMaster and ControlPersist leads to zombie processes
Hi.
Perhaps you can help me with this:
What I do is using Nagios (actually Icinga) and having checks on remote
hosts executed via ssh.
In order to dramatically speed checks up (from about 0,300 ms to 0,010
ms) I use ControlMaster = auto, which also makes the mux process spawned
on the first check.
As checks are typically sequentially scheduled I want the mux process
to persist but it should

Hmm AFAIU, when not using ControlPersist, that would simply mean that
if the last session is closed, the mux closes either, right?
This is however undesirable as well for the above use-case:
First, considers hosts where only one check runs (i.e. executed via

ControlPersist + IdleTimeout
Hi there,
So I created a patch that makes ssh behave more like sudo. You
connect to a host typing your password, you quit, you connect again
and you are let in immediately. If you wait for too long you have to
type your password again.
It works if you have a ControlPath, ControlMaster is auto,
ControlPersist is yes and ControlTimeout is for example 5m. This will
make a master when you

Does ssh need sendfd in pledge() call?
Hi,
I posted this question to the OpenBSD bugs list last week, however
I have had no reply and it was suggested on IRC that I post here
instead. So I must apologise if this is not appropriate.
For a reference here is my previous post:

Uniquely Identifying the Local TTY of an SSH Connection
I've managed to figure out a scheme using SendEnv. The way it works is that I add the following to my local .bashrc
```
export LC__LOCAL_TTY_NAME="ssh-$(basename $(tty))"
```
then on the same local machine add an entry to my .ssh/config
```
Host = remote
Hostname = my.remote.host
SendEnv LC__LOCAL_TTY_NAME
ControlPath ~/.ssh/cm-%r@%h:%p
Problemes with ControlPersist
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hello,
There seems to be just a bit to do with the latest openssh (5.8p1) and
ControlPersist. I encountered two problems:
1. When I use ControlPersist in combination with ProxyCommand to reach a
other host over that proxy I get the following message:
Bad packet length 1397966893.
Disconnecting: Paket corrupt
