Running sshd with Privilege Seperation drops connection on password change
Hi Darren/Damien, Sorry for responding so late. Still hope we can get this sorted out. Yes I am indeed using PAM for ssh authentication and disabling priv seperation is a no-go for us since it opens up a security loophole. From what I can see in ptree and auth logs, when the child passwd process returns with SIGCHLD, the parent sshd process terminates. Sshd logs are as follows as requested at

Failure to Launch (was override -q option)
Attached is the very verbose ssh output. Just to be perverse, this time two nodes lost connectivity. The only thing I see is lines saying that the two connections are lost, although being honest I have no idea what everything else means. For reference, 8 ssh cinnections were being made at the same time for a 8x8mpi task. N.B., since the OS I am using does not have rsh, I am currently using the

UseLogin under AIX 4.3.3
Hi, If I enable "UseLogin" under AIX, I get the following message upon login: /dev/pts/2: 3004-004 You must "exec" login from the lowest login shell. The manpage states: "In order to preserve the integrity of the system, only one session at a time is allowed to be logged in to a port. ssh trouble checklist
Hi. There should be a checklist of everything that can go wrong with making an ssh connection. Here's one entry for the list, which I didn't know before, and * I couldn't see the problem from the -ddd and -vvv output, and * there were no /var/log/* file entries to give hints. Here's what I did sudo kill <pid-of-sshd> /usr/sbin/sshd No good. Usually I did kill

^C doesnt work on ssh session
Thanks Darren, will check on your response. I am attaching sshd, ssh logs with debug flags. Please see if it gives any hint: when I press ^C in ssh session, no log gets printed in both server/client side. X11 forwarding problem -- openssh-3.5p1 -- redhat 8.0 -- linux 2.4.18
All, I'm working on upgrading a machine from RH 6.2 to RH 8.0. I've encountered one major (for me) snag in that I cannot get X11 forwarding to work anymore. I've been google-ing the error messages all morning, with no luck. Here is debugging output from the server (client debugging output sent upon request... I don't feel it is relevant). What I feel is interesting is at the

X11 forwarding not working.
Hi! I'm having a difficult time getting X11 forwarding to work. Since I've read the docs completely about this, this must be an SSH bug which is likely because I'm using Gentoo as the SSH server. When trying to forward X11 connections, I get X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. kwrite: cannot connect to X server XXXXXXXXX:10.0 Using command ssh -Y -p 1111 -4

sshd terminates a session after a successful login
I've recently upgraded our environment to OpenSSH-3.7.1p1 on Solaris, AIX and IRIX. I have had no luck when it comes to getting the IRIX environment to work. With sshd running on an IRIX server, I connect with any other version/OS ssh, watch the connection establish, get right up to the point where the shell should spawn and sshd terminates. I have been unable to find any information online

However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this. I attach

Only one chance to enter a new password?
Hello there, We are using OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7d 17 Mar 2004 on various Solaris boxes with PAM and an LDAP server back end. Recently we have added a requirement for users to have complex passwords. The problem is, if a user's password has expired, when they log in they are prompted for a new password (good) but if they enter a non-complex new password the session is closed rather than
