Reviving compiz.org - quest for information
compiz.org hasn't been updated properly in almost half a decade, and there's a lot of misleading or downright wrong information out there right now. There's a launchpad ticket on it [1], but the subject isn't quite covered by a simple bug as it stands. First thing first: Compiz has been using version 0.9 for almost half a decade, and clearly deviated from past conventions of

Desktop-operations in Metacity and Compiz.
Hello, I'm developing a fancy screenshot application for the GNOME-desktop using GTK and GDK libraries (and some Xlib stuff too). When taking a screenshot of a window, my code first finds out in which desktop the window lies (resides) and then moves to that desktop and takes a screenshot. This is quite easy to do under the Metacity window manager, but I cannot make this work right in Compiz

Accessibility of Cairo/OpenGL text: ATK without GTK?
Hello. While playing with Compiz window switchers (there are several) I noticed that the selected window name is displayed but not vocalized by the screen reader. I was initially surprised after discovering that the window title is not drawn with GTK; but I understand that Compiz itself does not actually depend on GTK --- only the GTK window decorator and CCSM use it. So Compiz renders text

Accessibility: mouse guides for Compiz, and forthcoming contributions
Hello. [Resending the message from a subscribed address] I'm Luca Saiu. I'm part of a small but very motivated team in France, working on accessibility; you might have already exchanged some messages with my colleagues Jean-Philippe Mengual, Ksamak and Raphaël Poitevin. We are developing a customized version of debian using Compiz with Emerald and MATE. I've developed a relatively

Upcoming structural changes to compiz core - HEADS UP
Hi Everyone, I'm going to make some big structural cleanups to core which is likely to affect everyone here, but I believe is for the better, so I am posting this mail now to get some feedback and make sure that we don't tread on anyone's toes when I merge all of this stuff. 1st Change: Decorators are going in their own repo ========================================= The decorators

"Which version should I use?"
Hi, On Thu, Nov 13, 2014 at 3:28 AM, Kristian Lyngstøl <kristian at bohemians.org> wrote: > > Feature-wise, Compiz 0.9.12.0 actually has fewer features as I understand it. With the move to OpenGL ES, several plugins got dropped. I understand some of that has been remedied, but 0.9 still does not come out ahead if my understanding is correct. I have asked around and this is what

compiz Digest, Vol 55, Issue 1
I'm not expert at all, but I would never recommend enabling Compiz by default on a Live CD/DVD at the stage Compiz/X11 it's right now. At least ask the user at boot stage. Discussion about Compiz and working togeher
I would like to get a better understanding as to why Quinn's patches have not been accepted into the compiz git tree. I feel Quinn's patches could greatly improve compiz. She has made quite a lot of progress wrt to enhancing compiz with her cgwd window decorator which allows users to write their own themes for window decorations. Also, many of the plugins that are in compiz.net are MIT
