Query re Tom''s firewall (see http://www.shorewall.net/myfiles.htm)
On the firewall, what is the rationale for giving eth1 an IP address
that is also assigned eto eth0? (Rather than a private one.)

Firewall transparancy?
Hi!
I was thinking, is there a way to use a linux box with Samba running in the
DMZ of a firewall and to validate logons from the internal network?
I.e. the users workstations are on the protected net on 192.168.111.xx and
the Samba PDC resides in the DMZ, running subnet 192.168.222.xx. If it's
possible, what ports need to be open?

several behind NAT
I've got my asterisk server in the DMZ of my local LAN - I've used my
Budgetone and GXP2000's from the Internet- on direct IP connections
with no problems. However, I'm about to deploy about 5 phones
(either budgetone or GXP2000's) all on a LAN behind a NAT- on a
different network than the Asterisk server. Should I look into using
STUN servers? Will this setup be a

Three interfaces firewall - performances problem
Hello,
I''ve shorewall running a three interfaces firewall (net, loc, dmz) and
I''ve got performances problems.
My measured bandwidth from internet is up to 6.8 Mb/s, and I "only" get
3.5Mb/s on my LAN and 5Mb/s on my dmz.
I checked with iperf, and all my interfaces (eth0, eth1, eth2) can
actually work at 10 Mb/s.
I tried disabling all the rules from loc to net

Is it possible to have a remote Phone work behind Nat without a VPN?
Hi Everyone,
Is it possible to have a SIP Phone work remotely if it's behind a Router
performing NAT without connecting the Router to a VPN? The Asterisk Box
will be in the DMZ.
Thanks

SIP & IAX behind NAT
I'm trying to set up * server behind NAT. The box is set up as DMZ in my DSL router, i.e. all incoming connections without explicit port mapping are forwarded to *. So far I'm unable to get this setup to work for either IAX or SIP (tried IAXComm & XLite softphones on public IP address). Data seems to come in fine (IAX/SIP debug shows message interaction taking place), but there is no

Sipura 2000 behind NAT issue, Vonage is working
Hi,
I'm trying to configure Sipura 2000 (behind NAT) which connects to
Asterisk (public IP, no NAT) and having interesting results. When Sipura
is behind Linux/NAT firewall it works great and no special NAT settings
on Sipura are necessary. The issue I'm having is when Sipura is behind
Linksys broadband NAT router. Sipura gets registered with Asterisk just
fine, but I can't hear

Asterisk@Home connecting through firewall/router
I ditched the idea of using Asterisk straight through my router, there
was too much to set up in too little time for me. I've found a spare
machine and installed Asterisk@Home on it. Things run smoothly except
for connecting to my IAX provider; It doesn't even look like packets
are going out at all.
Here's my config:

Polycom behind firewall issue
I have a user that just got a broadband connection so she could have an
extension off our pbx. The service is DSL and uses a speedstream 5200
dsl router. I sent her a Polycom IP300. At first it would not access the
config files via ftp so I had tech support walk her through setting the
phone's internal IP to be the dmz. This allowed me to set up the phone
using the web interface and now

Shorewall as a "commercial" firewall
I am considering replacing my old checkpoint and watchguard firewalls witha
single Linux box using iptables and shorewall. I have two ISP''s (with
separate routing tables), two DMZ''s, at least one VPN to a remote office, and
a local trusted network. The configuration will look like:

firewall dilemma
Hi everyone,
I have this problem that I'm not sure what's the best solution for it. I
need your input & help...
I have an internal network behind a hardware firewall. All traffics go
thru. the firewall. One of the firewall's rules is that it doesn't allow
internal network accesses internal resources that travels outside then
come back. In the other words, it drops all

samba through a firewall
Hi
I have samba installed & running successfully on a Solaris 8 server.
directory shares were working as expected until the machine was put on a
DMZ, and now it's stopped working. I can ping from my PC to the server, and
telnet, but samba seems to have no route through the firewall - possibly the
firewall needs to have different ports opened up to allow samba traffic
through? I need to

rsync problem behind a router
I have used rsync on many systems, and never had a problem. I am
stumped on what to do with this.
I have a box behind a LinkSys router and I can not "push" or "pull" data
to or from it from anywhere.
When I try, it logs into the remote server, gets the file list and just
stops.
The remote server shows a process running until I control-c out of
it.when I do that, I get:

How to modify client authentication in passenger based puppet master behind ssl proxy
I''ve configured our DMZ apache webserver to proxy connections from our
roaming users into our internal puppet master running under
passenger/apache. Everything is pretty much working but because I am using
SSL between the proxy server and the puppet master, the master treats the
connection as authenticated as the proxy. My current work around is to
allow access to all catalog and
