SNMPv3 fails when more than one UPS is configured in ups.conf
Hi Charles,
Running upsdrvctl -D start on the host with all three configured to
SNMPv3 kicks out 56 different "unhandled ASN 0x81 from ..." lines on all
three but importantly they all start up and keep running.
I'm starting to suspect the startup is taking so long that systemd is
timing out and killing it. time -p reports real time of 133.27. I'm not
a fan of systemd but

SNMPv3 fails when more than one UPS is configured in ups.conf
New NUT install dealing with three APC Smart-UPS 5000s, two of which
have AP9617 and the third has a AP9619 card.
The SNMPv3 configurations on all three are exactly the same. This is
confirmed by snmpget calls that work just fine:
snmpget -Cf -v3 -u [...] -l authPriv -A '[...]' -X '[...]' -a
MD5 -x DES [upsname] .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.1.1.1.0
snmp-ups can query all three

NUT not shutting down one of three UPSs (sometimes none of them shut down)
I have three APC SmartUPS 5000s. Two of them are AP9617 and one is AP9619.
I have a RS-232 connections from my monitor host to all three. All three
report status and give information.
One of the two AP9617 - ups3-1 - does not shut down when FSD is sent. It
did when I first set this system up a year or two ago but it's stopped
doing so since then. Resetting the management interface does not

APC SmartUPS 1500 not working for newhidups and usbhid-ups
Hi,
Can't get newhidups (2.0.5) or usbhid-ups (SVN trunk) to work
2.0.5 hidups seems to work, but I was hoping for more information...
like temperature, etc.
Tried newhidups and usbhid-ups, but they don't seem to detect my UPS...
should I switch back to serial? Will I get more information? (trying not
to move back to apcupsd, since i have a mixed environment)
Here is some debug

APC 1500 USB problem
Hello,
We have two APC Back-UPS RS 1500 USB stuff, and i've got a bit
of a problem with it and NUT.
The usbdevs output:
addr 2: Back-UPS RS 1500 FW:8.g8 .I USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion
addr 3: Back-UPS RS 1500 FW:8.g8 .I USB FW:g8, American Power Conversion
(UPS1 and UPS2)
I've configured our NUT system to monitor the UPSes, and it went very
fine till the time had arrived for a

APC SmartUPS 750 (SUA750) missing ambient data with usbhid-ups
I have a SmartUPS 750 (SUA750) which has the temperature and humidity
SmartSlot card installed. When NUT 2.2 communicates with this UPS over
/dev/ttyS0 using apcsmart, using the APC Smart cable connected to the
SUA750 serial port, and this ups.conf:

I can see the ambient temperature and humidity data with "upsc su700 at

NUT Two Apc UPSes on Windows
Hi,
I've got a question about managing two UPSes under NUT.
I have two similar model APC usb-connected UPSes to work with, but don't
know how to manage them simultaneously from under Windows. Long story
short, my ups.conf looks like this:
--- ups.conf ---
[ups1]
driver= usbhid-ups
port= auto
serial=AS1054340323
[ups2]
driver= usbhid-ups
port= auto
serial=AS1026662626

Questions about failover architecture
Good point, I guess I thought it knew which UPSes are getting the FSD
treatment.
Maybe this should also get revised eventually (e.g. a "primary" monitoring
system not fed by the UPS it is wired to should never FSD itself due to the
outage, but should ensure that UPS gets powered off or power-cycled when no
"secondary" clients remain).
Then maybe not much is needed at this

Questions about failover architecture
Thinking of it, the service-aware nut-driver-enumerator script has ways to
set dependencies of a driver on other units in the system, depending on
driver type. A couple of lines added there would be useful to ensure the
failover/multiplex driver(s) start after the "real" driver units they
scrape data from, and it would be a "soft" dependency (real driver unit may
crash without

Questions about failover architecture
P.S. To articulate better what I am unclear about from your message:
`nutshutdown` seems to run `@SBINDIR@/upsdrvctl shutdown`.
>From my understanding, this would command - all - `ups.conf` UPS to
shutdown.
So this would already include the UPS monitored by any
failover/multiplexing driver.
In contrast, `upsdrvctl shutdown` would start up all these drivers again,
respectively.

SNMP agent for NUT
Hello guys,
I was some years ago when I sent something to this list.
NUT is a great tool but lacks SNMP management. It can access a device using SNMP
but I found no way to read NUT values using SNMP. It would be very
useful in order to integrate with
network management software based on SNMP. As I did not find a
solution, I wrote it myself.
I wrote a MIB file and a SNMP agent for net-snmp

Multiple UPS monitoring, relaying
Hello,
I've got a setup with NUT, where we've got two UPSes,
ups1 and ups2. UPS1 supports our servers, while UPS2
supports our desktop boxes. We monitor both of them
via USB on a box now called "upsmon".
The interesting point comes here. We monitor both
UPSes on the upsmon box, but if UPS2 fails, which
supports our desktop boxes, NUT shouldn't initiate
a shutdown in

SNMPv3 fails when more than one UPS is configured in ups.conf
I've told systemd to wait up to 10 minutes for startup but it's still
failing. Sometimes it fails with "timeout exceeded" and sometimes with
the ASN error previously reported.
I went back to running upsdrvctl -D to see if I could see anything. On
the third run I saw messages about "startup timer elapsed" for ups2-1
and then it tried again to launch that one (killing

two MGE Ellipse 1500 ups via usb
Hi,
I've got two MGE Ellipse 1500 UPS connected via usb to an ubuntu
jaunty system with nut and libupsclient1 2.4.1-2ubuntu4.
As soon as I start the driver for the second one, they start fighting
each other and I get no data. I found an older post to this list that
said: If you want to monitor multiple UPSes through usbhid-ups, you
*must* make sure that each one can be uniquely identified

APC SmartUPS 1500 (USB) does not report OL/OB state
Hi,
I have the following system configuration (probably does not matter, but
anyway): Ubuntu Linux x86 VM running under ESXi bare metal hypervisor. UPS
is connected to the ESXi host, and VM communicates to the UPS using USB pass
through option. Details of elaborated shutdown sequence are out of topic, so
I skip them. NUT was installed from the package, I believe it is recent
enough.

Questions about failover architecture
Hello Jim,
I am following the direction of the `clone` drivers, although using the
modern `upsdrvquery.c` API.
Essentially I am parsing the protocol lines directly reading from the
driver sockets, as the clone drivers do.
As for ups.conf, I start up as follows without problems:
[ups]
driver = dummy-ups
port = /etc/nut/5E.dev
[ups2]
driver = dummy-ups
port = /etc/nut/APC.dev
[failover]

Bug: upssched and 3+ UPSes
Hi,
I've stumbled over a race condition in upssched when using 3 or more UPSes in combination with START-TIMER/CANCEL-TIMER.
I have a solution that works but is ugly, so I'm going to describe the bug here in the hope somebody can come up with a better solution.
The problem is in upssched.c:629 check_parent() (see https://github.com/networkupstools/nut/blob/master/clients/upssched.c ).

Questions about failover architecture
Sounds great, thanks for the update!
For communications with the other drivers (from failover or multiplexor), I
suggest using the local driver socket line the clone* drivers do: this
removes a dependency on `upsd` both for the service startup (no
chicken-and-egg issue of drivers before upsd, but upsd before the failover
driver) and for FSD end-game (after all services stopped, we just need to
