Mass virtual hosting with mongrel
Ok, a refinement of the question I asked yesterday (If there were any replies from yesterday I don''t have access to them here .. sorry if I''m duplicating anybody''s words here). How can one host multiple domains with mongrel? Assuming you are mass vhosting and you also want the performance benefits of using mongrel ... As far as I can tell, one could set up a

Mongrel loading wrong database environment (& a couple other bugs?)
Hi There, I''ve got a mongrel cluster running on redhat 9 proxied behind an Apache 2.2 installation. I have run into a real stumbling block in that, while the rails app runs in production mode (you get a production.log file, for example, and I see this in the mongrel log: ** Starting Rails with production environment ... ), it always loads the development database configuration

Mongrel Console 0.1 -- script/console meets mongrel
This is a super quick announcement for a new Mongrel plugin called mongrel_console. It was inspired by a request from Tobias L?tke who wanted to tail out logs while Mongrel was running. What mongrel_console does is combine the Rails script/console with Mongrel so that you can control a mongrel server while using script/console. Sounds weird but it''s quite awesome for development

Mongrel under opensolars with SMF
Thought I''d drop a note about my experience with running mongrel directly under the solaris service management framework. So far I''m very impressed. SMF is the solaris replacement for the init system. It''s tied much more closely to the OS and for instance doesn''t use pid files. I''ve found you can completely eliminate mongrel cluster, and for that

need help writing a plugin
Hi, I''m halfway developing a tiny plugin that allows people to scrub flash video files. I''ve got my plugin setup to monitor a directory /movies. Whenever a .flv file is requested within that directory, some stuff should happen, if not, the request should be processed as usual. I don''t know how to do the latter.. require ''mongrel'' require

Best Distro for Mongrel
Hello all, I''ve gone through a lot of extra effort trying to get Mongrel to place nice with Ubuntu. Since I''m at my wit''s end trying to get it to work on this distro, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a distribution that makes it easy to set up. Any thoughts? Do i need multiple mongrel instances for good performance?
I have developed a rails application for my company. It will be used by upto 3o people at a time. I have just read that Mongrel will only process 1 request at a time (rails is only in 1 controller at a time). Does this mean that to get good performance i need to run mongrel many times on different ports? How many different instances of mongrel is recommended? If this is true then it

Mongrel - good enough?
I want to deploy RoR site''s (Intranet) for small offices/businesses that will get light traffic (estimating at max about 40 hits per minute at peak times). Lots of AJAX going on more than anything (update checks to the DB - Postgresql). I''d rather not use Lighttd, Apache, etc. as I want to have a streamlined install that is very easy for the end users. The catch is I

proxy errors with apache2.2.3 + mongrels
I''ve posted this to rails-deployment as well. I have to administer a medium size rails app (1''5 million requests each day), recently I''ve switched from lighttpd + fcgi to apache + mongrel. In the following lines I am going to describe the platform: All machines are running Debian Etch, with 4 gb ram and dual core intel32 processors. Web server runs debian''s

anyone experience problems with mongrel and sessions?
I''ve moved an application that was running under apache2/fcgi to apache2/mongrel(mod_proxy). under the original setup i had no problems with sessions. now under mongrel, the users are experiencing application errors. after looking at the logs, I am seeing that a piece of code that relies on a session variable is what is causing the error. It seems that the session variable no longer

31K failed stat64's when viewing a simple (no db) rhtml page?
I''m trying to help the sys admins of my server figure out what is up with our Rails installation (debian sarge - completely up to date). Hitting a simple page yields 31,000 failed stat64''s and takes anywhere from 8 - 44 seconds. They #! for ruby is correct everywhere, but it''s like it can''t find Rails. These are box stock standard installs. Here''s

mongrel_cluster-0.1.1: the bird dog (capistrano support!)
Hey y''all: mongrel_cluster provides management tools for running Mongrel behind a reverse-proxy/load balancer. It is an extraction from Rails Machine, a deployment service and Ruby library that simplifies Rails application deployment. This release fixes bugs and adds a Capistrano task library. Changes: -changed pid file format to include port -only write configuration options

capistrano+mongrel struggles
Hello, I am trying to deploy on to OS X Server with capistrano+mongrel+apache2, etc. I''m trying to do a "cap cold_deploy" as recommended here: http://blog.codahale.com/2006/06/19/time-for-a-grown-up-server-rails-mongrel-apache-capistrano-and-you/ I had a devil of a time getting cap to find the mongrel_rails command (which is in /opt/local/bin) on the server.
