[LLVMdev] Use rand_r() instead of non-reentrant thread-unsafe rand() in GetRandomNumber()
If we're keeping the state locally now, perhaps we should store it in a
per-thread variable. I know rand() isn't thread safe to begin with, but it
seems like rand_r() can be since it should keep no external state.

[LLVMdev] Use rand_r() instead of non-reentrant thread-unsafe rand() in GetRandomNumber()
Agreed, done.
One thing I'm not sure about is this statement in docs:
POSIX.1-2008 marks *rand_r*() as obsolete.
- And... what is the replacement?

[LLVMdev] Use rand_r() instead of non-reentrant thread-unsafe rand() in GetRandomNumber()
Correcting my patch, reg. __thread stuff I'm not very familiar with.

[LLVMdev] Use rand_r() instead of non-reentrant thread-unsafe rand() in GetRandomNumber()
I don't know if __thread is well-supported enough on compilers to use in
LLVM core code. LLVM has its own support class: ThreadLocal
http://llvm.org/doxygen/classllvm_1_1sys_1_1ThreadLocal.html
And if randr_r() is obsolete, I'm not sure we should be using it. What
platforms have you tested this on? Is it available on Windows, Mac, BSDs?
If not touching global state is important

4-stable and C rand()?
Hi everyone, sorry if this has been answered before - I caught a whiff of a
discussion about c's rand() function in a mailing list archive, but couldn't
find a definitive answer.
I'm trying to do a simple CS project on my machine where I generate two sets
of values in parallel using rand() and am running into infinite loops of
values, and couldn't figure out why, so I wrote a test

Building R package: “Found 'rand', possibly from 'rand' (C)” NOTE when checking package
I am building a package that makes a simple visualization. A part of
the code is in C++, and utilizes the functions srand() and rand() for
purposes not related to statistics (introducing random noise in the
visualization). The package compiles without problems on my
workstation(s), but when I submitted it to the winbuilder service, I
got the following weird message:

IAX2 trunks unreliable becoming UNREACHABLE after a time
I have a network of offices using Asterisk that are connected via IAX2
trunks. The trunks work great for a day or two then for no reason at all one
end of the trunk will become UNREACHABLE while the other end is still
connected. The only way to fix the problem is to shutdown Asterisk completly
then start it backup again. The end that dies is not always the same, some
times it is server A and some

the word "rand" comes up in console after typing a command
Hi list,
I keep on getting this "rand" word come up on my console. It shows up
maybe one out 20 times I type in R console. I don't understand why it is
coming up?

path to find ssh-rand-helper
Before I actually implement the small changes needed to allow the
location of ssh-rand-helper to be specified in the config file, I'd
like to check that in doing so I won't be opening up a huge security
hole.
My brief reading of the code suggests that in entropy.c:seed_rng() the
ssh-rand-helper is run as the original uid (for binaries which were
setuid in the first place of course), so I

ssh-rand-helper
Now that ssh-rand-helper has been segregated into a separate program,
I'd like to revisit an old question about its entropy gathering.
- would it be desirable to make it possible for ssh-rand-helper to fall
back to external commands if PRNGD cannot be reached, instead of
choosing one or the other at compile time?
- When using PRNGD, the program gets 48 bytes of entropy from PRNGD,

Cannot run OpenSSH 3.1p1 on Solaris 8, Irix 6.5.14, Irix 6.5.4, SunOS 4.1.3_U1 - ssh-rand-helper child produced insufficient data
I have successfully compiled OpenSSH 3.1p1 for the following systems:
Solaris 8
Solaris 7
Irix 6.5.14
Irix 6.5.4
SunOS 4.1.3_U1
Unfortunately, the new sshd is not working on any of the above systems
with the exception of Solaris 7. (I then put the Solaris 7 executables
on Solaris 8, and they worked there too.)
This is the error I'm getting:
$ /usr/etc/sshd -D -d -d -d

Clustering and Rand Index - VS-KM
Dear WizaRds,
I have been trying to compute the adjusted Rand index as by Hubert/
Arabie, and could not correctly approach how to define a partition
object as in my last request yesterday.
With package fpc I try to work around the problem, using my original data:
mat <- matrix( c(6,7,8,2,3,4,12,14,14, 14,15,13,3,1,2,3,4,2,
15,3,10,5,11,7,13,6,1, 15,4,10,6,12,8,12,7,1), ncol=9, byrow=T )

[PATCH] Change test scripts shell to bash, to avoid lack of arithmetic support in dash, which is sh on Ubuntu 10.04
Erik,
I was thinking of doing this:
export MALLOC_PERTURB_=$(awk 'BEGIN { srand(); print int(rand() * 32767 %
255 + 1) }')
Or would you prefer using 'date'?

Clustering and Rand Index
Dear WizaRds,
I am trying to compute the (adjusted) Rand Index in order to comprehend
the variable selection heuristic (VS-KM) according to Brusco/ Cradit
2001 (Psychometrika 66 No.2 p.249-270, 2001).
Unfortunately, I am unable to correctly use
cl_ensemble and cl_agreement (package: clue). Here is what I am trying
to do:

[LLVMdev] linux build broken on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64
First error: head file related. Strangely, this code has been there a
while, which makes me think that the HAVE_ARC4RANDOM is somehow now showing
up as set whereas perhaps it didn't used to be.
