[LLVMdev] Disassembly arbitrary machine-code byte arrays
Hi Aiden, The easiest thing I can do is to point you to the source of the "llvm-mc" tool, which does exactly what you ask in its "-disassemble" mode. The code is rather small, so it should be easy to work out. tools/llvm-mc Cheers, James -----Original Message----- From: llvmdev-bounces at cs.uiuc.edu [mailto:llvmdev-bounces at cs.uiuc.edu] On Behalf Of Aidan Steele Sent:

[LLVMdev] Disassembly arbitrary machine-code byte arrays
Hi Aiden, The 'C' based interface you could use in is llvm/include/llvm-c/Disassembler.h, which in there is: /** * Disassemble a single instruction using the disassembler context specified in * the parameter DC. The bytes of the instruction are specified in the * parameter Bytes, and contains at least BytesSize number of bytes. The * instruction is at the address specified by the

[LLVMdev] Disassembly arbitrary machine-code byte arrays
Hi Kev and James, Thanks to both of you for responding. I had looked at the otool release published for 10.7.2 (cctools-800), but it seems that it only snuck in after that and by the cctools-809 release! In any case, both that and llvm-mc should be more than adequate! A follow-up question: is the C interface to LLVM a second-class citizen or should I reasonably be able to expect to do everything

Using an MCStreamer Directly to produce an object file?
llvm-dev, Thanks so much in advance for any help, tips, or advice you may be able to offer me. I'm going to try to avoid the big-picture description of the project I'm working on, and only talk about the parts that I have trouble with / currently need to implement. -- I've been starting by taking the source code from the "llvm-mc" tool, and working that down into a

TargetRegistry and MC object ownership.
Hi All, While trying to put together an MC-based assembler the other day, I again encountered MC's non-obvious memory ownership rules. The most egregious example of these is MCObjectStreamer's destructor: MCObjectStreamer::~MCObjectStreamer() { delete &Assembler->getBackend(); delete &Assembler->getEmitter(); delete &Assembler->getWriter(); delete Assembler;

[LLVMdev] How to output a .S *and* a .OBJ file?
Hi, I'm embarrassed that I can't figure this out... I have a compiler that outputs my module in either .s assembly format or .obj binary format, either one works just fine. But if I try to output both of them by adding passes, LLVM throws an Assert: void WinCOFFStreamer::EmitLabel(MCSymbol *Symbol) { assert(Symbol->isUndefined() && "Cannot define a symbol

[LLVMdev] FW: generating ELF files on non-ELF platforms with MC
Ping, Apart from Anton's concerns (which I think are manageable) and Micah's support, I received no reply on this. Does there exist a way to tell MC to generate and ELF container for code on Windows? If not, I'm willing to submit a patch to fix this, but would like some opinions on the best direction to take here. The proposed "llvm::TargetSpec class"

[LLVMdev] generating ELF files on non-ELF platforms with MC
Hi, > Would it be OK to add "ELF" to Triple::EnvironmentType? It seems like a plausible choice since MachO is there. On the other hand, I'm not sure whether it makes sense to make it mutually exclusive with the other members of EnvironmentType (GNU, GNUEABI, EABI). EABI and GNUEABI imply ELF. GNU in practice does not need to imply ELF, but is used in the ARM world as "the

[LLVMdev] generating ELF files on non-ELF platforms with MC
Hello, We're currently working on MC-JIT, focusing on runtime generation and loading of ELF object files, even on non-ELF platforms (i.e. Windows). However, we run into a problem with MC insisting to generate COFF objects on Windows, MachO on Macs and ELF only otherwise, based on the triple. Is there an existing method to generate ELF objects with MC on Windows, without modifying MC? Thanks

making the passphrase prompt more clear
I am going to preface this email by saying that I know very little about OpenSSH internals, the protocol, etc. I do a lot of work with novice programmers, and one step that comes up relatively early is generating SSH keys. In case you haven't done it in a while, the output looks like this: $ ssh-keygen -t rsa Generating public/private rsa key pair. Enter file in which to save the key

E&M Wink problems
We're having some difficulty connecting a T1 fax board card to asterisk, with E&M Wink. We've successfully connected it to other E&M Wink T1s, but have been unable to get asterisk to hear it's dialing. Asterisk can dial down to it with no problem, and it hears all the digits, but whenever it sends digits down to asterisk, * always only "gets" the first one. This is

[LLVMdev] "has different visibility" warnings
Recently I started getting these warnings - thousands of them - and I'm not sure what I did to cause them or how to solve them: ld: warning llvm::MemoryBuffer::getBufferStart() const has different visibility (1) in /usr/local/lib/libLLVMSupport.a(MemoryBuffer.o) and (2) in /usr/local/lib/libLLVMSupport.a(CommandLine.o) ld: warning

grep(): returning the matched value
Hi, I'm looking to use the grep function (or something else) to return the matched pattern as opposed to the whole element. For example: x <- c("pjhj24jhjhd") grep("[[:digit:]]{2}", x, value=T) returns "people", whereas I simply want "24". Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Aidan [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

`dendrapply` Enhancements
Hello Aidan, Sorry for dropping this for a while. ? If you do end up using eval(), it may make sense to move lang3() out of the loop and reuse the existing object

Mongrel crashes whenever an exception is raised
Hi all, I have a rails app running on mongrel on freebsd using mongrel 0.3.13.3 with ruby 1.8.4. Mongrel dies every time the application generates an exception. I have the same setup running on a linux box without any problems. Mongrel crashes with the following error: Bus error (core dumped) And the following message in /var/log/message kernel: pid 57638 (ruby), uid 0: exited on signal 10

Using objects within functions in formulas
Dear all, I'm looking to create a formula within a function to pass to glmer() and I'm having a problem that the following example will illustrate: library(lme4) y1 = rnorm(10) x1 = data.frame(x11=rnorm(10), x12=rnorm(10), x13=rnorm(10)) x1 = data.matrix(x1) w1 = data.frame(w11=sample(1:3,10, replace=TRUE), w12=sample(1:3,10, replace=TRUE), w13=sample(1:3,10, replace=TRUE)) test1 <-

[LLVMdev] Use of Smart Pointers in LLVM Projects
There seems to be some uncertainty about the use of smart pointers (previously OwningPtr, now std::unique_ptr and std::shared_ptr predominantly) in the LLVM project as a whole, so here's a thread to discuss/clarify/etc the project preferences/direction with regard to smart pointer usage. For some context, see discussions in LLVM r212403 and Clang r213307. The basic question here seems to be
