Cleaning Up My Process Table
I'm upgrading my primary server from RH 7.2 to CentOS-4.3.ServerCD. I
REALLY like the ServerCD. Who needs all the fluff that comes with a
standard distro? If I want a system-config-gooey I can run Xnest [1]
and ssh -X from my laptop. Anyway I have two questions:
1) How can I collectively stop all the NFS, portmap, whatever? I'm hoping
it can be manipulated as a group because occationally

Asterisk service crashes
List,
The past few days the asterisk service on my server has crashed several
times. I have had it running for months and have made no changes to it.
When it crashes, I am unable to make calls or gain access to the CLI. The
service has been stopped. If I try to start it again (service asterisk
start), it will start and run for a few seconds then crash again. After a
reboot, it will run

I appear to be attacking others
It looks like my CentOS 4.2 box is attacking other people with some type
of ftp attack. I got an email from somebody saying they were being
attacked by my IP address.
Further investigation /var/log/messages shows a whole bunch of sshd
attacks on me, none of which appear successful. I'm running ethereal
right now and I can see that my system is doing some kind of ftp attacks
on others.

Kernel - pata_via
Why standard Centos 5.2 kernel does not have a module "pata_via." I
have an old motherboard and IDE drive. The standard kernel does not
work. Kernel include a module "pata_via" only in centosplus. It is a
bug?

Hello Community,
I encountered an error while running "xm console domU". Here is the running
script:
# xm console domU
xenconsole: Could not read tty from store: No such file or directory
I googled and found out that this issue is mostly result from forgetting
starting xenconsole service.
However, after I started xenconsole, the issue is still there. Please see:

Memory usage bar plot
Hi,
I haven't tried the code yet. Is there a way to parse this data
using R and create bar plots so that each program's 'RAM used' figures are
grouped together.
So 'uuidd' bars will be together. The data will have about 50 sets. So if
there are 100 processes each will have about 50 bars.
What is the recommended way to graph these big barplots ? I am looking

Are the error messages of ConstrOptim() consisten with each other?
Dear Friends.
I found something very puzzling with constOptim(). When I change the
parameters for ConstrOptim, the error messages do not seem to be
consistent with each other:
> constrOptim(c(0.5,0.3,0.5), f=fit.error, gr=fit.error.grr, ui=ui,ci=ci)
Error in constrOptim(c(0.5, 0.3, 0.5), f = fit.error, gr = fit.error.grr, :
initial value not feasible

Zombie processes being created when console buffer is full
We have been researching stuck zombie processes in our libvirt lxc
containers. What we found was:
1) Each zombie’s parent was pid 1. init which symlinks to systemd.
2) In some cases, the zombies were launched by systemd, in others the
zombie was inherited.
3) While the child is in the zombie state, the parent process (systemd)
/proc/1/status shows no pending signals.
4) Attaching gdb to

LXC libvirt support
Hi,
Has anyone used libvirt to start/stop/manage LXC (linux containers) ?
Is it supported at all? Last I tried, had few issues and the reply was
:
///
Note that libvirt lxc driver is a different implementation from lxc tools
and doesn't use lxc tools internally. You may not be able to do what
you are doing with lxc tools. Especially, the driver doesn't take aware
of files and settings

afx.h... configure: error: Could not find the MFC includes
This is driving me nuts. I'm trying to compile an MFC application using
WINE. I can specify the location of the ATL includes and configure is
quite happy but it chokes when I give it the MFC includes in the same way:
./configure --with-atl-includes=/home/wade/VC98/atl/Include
--with-mfc-includes=/home/wade/VC98/mfc/Include
Wassup? I'm using
Winemaker 0.5.5

How to get uuid info inside a lxc container created by libvirt_lxc
Hi ,
Is there anyway to get uuid info inside a lxc container which is created
by libvirt_lxc?
For kvm, we can use dmidecode or lshw to get this info inside vm. Is
there any tools
to do this thing for libvirt lxc?
Thanks for any help~

No MySQL password in ps aux!
I just noticed that some CentOS 4 or 5 machine that I don't admin but
have root access to hides MySQL passwords from ps:
Console 1:
$ mysql -u root -pSECRET
mysql >
Console2:
# ps aux
root 32165 0.0 0.1 109408 2204 pts/1 Ss+ 11:19 0:00 mysql
-u root -px xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
That is really nice, is it a MySQL feature or a CentOS feature? I have
some other servers that I _do_

xen, iscsi and resilience to short network outages
Hi. Here is the short version:
If dom0 experiences a short (< 120 second) network outage the guests
whose disks are on iSCSI LUNs get (seemingly) unrecoverable IO errors.
Is it possible to make Xen more resiliant to such problems?
And now the full version:
We''re testing Xen on iSCSI LUNs. The hardware/software configuration is:
* Dom0 and guest OS: SLES10 x86_64
* iSCSI LUN on
