Newbie: Selecting data
I've been working with R for all of about 8 hours, so anyone with more
experience than this should be able to help me. General comments about

prediction intervals
Dear members,
I'm fitting linear model using "lm" which has numerous auto-regressive terms as well as other explanatory variables. In order to calculate prediction intervals, i've used a for-loop as the auto-regressive parameters need to be updated each time so that a new forecast and corresponding prediction interval can be calculated.

unused composed_of bits
I implemented a Temperature model for my application. It is pretty basic,
composed of a temperature, a unit and some conversion methods. In my app model
I decided to store temperature values in Fahrenheit, so there is no need to
remember the units between invocations. I am having a little trouble composing
my app model.

logistic regression example from Devore5
I maintain the Devore5 package for R. This package provides the data
sets from Jay Devore's text "Probability and Statistics for
Engineering and the Sciences (5th ed)". I am having difficulty
reproducing some logistic regression results from the textbook.
Perhaps this is because I am not using the glm function correctly.

Overheating on laptop as compared to RHEL
Hi,
I have an acer 5738g laptop on which i tried out the centos6.4 live CD.
The laptop feels noticable hotter and i check the temperature using
something like cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/. The temperatures are around
57-60 degrees when the laptop is just idling, ie, just the desktop and the
terminal window open. I install lm_sensors using yum and it installs
successfully, but there is no

UPS cooling
I've kludged together a cooling solution for my UPS - one USB cable, one 8cm
fan from an old unused computer (nominally 12V, but running it at 5V is
fine), two short pieces of copper wire and a few fragments of power cable
insulation to hold the wires in place against the 5V and GND pins (let's just
say that shorting 5V with a data pin doesn't sound like a good idea to me).

Centos - 4.x - VAIO notebook heating up
Hi friends,
I have a problem i have VAIO VGN-F seies notebook which was performing slow
on main power source, working fine on battery i did some tweaks on CPU
speeds reading a lot of tutorials , i do not know whether this or somthing
else has now started making mine notebook got heated up , i mean it is
heatin up from base.
I also have windows on the same system (dual boot), it was also heating

sipura over heat
I'm experiencing a very unusual problem with a few of my sipuras. They keep
over heating after minimal usage. I unplug them and let them sit for 15
minutes and it starts working fine. The other way around is that I put a
fan on it or something to keep it cooling.
Has anyone else experienced this or are they just defective units?

[LLVMdev] Cooling Outage Presumed Over
Dear All,
Since the cooling outage was scheduled to end at noon and it's now 4:00
pm Central, I'm going to step out on a limb and say that the cooling
outage is probably over.
:)
The temperature in the room where llvm.org is located did not rise
significantly, and so we were able to keep everything running as usual.

Determining maximum hourly slope per day

I have a challenge!
I have a large dataset with three columns, "date","temp", "location".
"date" is in the format %m/%d/%y %H:%M, with a "temp" recorded every 10
minutes. These temperatures of surface temperatures and so fluctuate during
the day, heating up and then cooling down, so the data is a series of peaks

R and computer heat
Hi,
I noticed the temperature of my laptop rises sharply during execution of a
long R script that generates several hundred plots, all of them saved to
files. No screen output. Temps reached above 90 Celsius degrees in the box
and above 80 C deg in the processor. The machine turns on cooler at maximum
speed and exhaled air is really hot. Tried similar operations (batch

Regression by factor using "sapply"
