Please make sure you're using C linkage for such functions, due to mangling the name of
function being emitted is not "putchard". Something like this:
extern "C" void putchard(char c) {
...
}
Or, just provide a mapping

Did you link your executable with -rdynamic?

Kaleidoscope tutorial: extern functions failing
Hi all,
I am new to LLVM and have been working through the Kaleidoscope tutorial.
Everything is working fine so far except for local externs (as opposed to
things like the math functions, which are working). Note that I have seen
this bug with the reference code listing, as well as my own code. link to

[LLVMdev] Kaleidoscope doesn't work properly
Hi
I hope this is a proper place to put my question.
I've compiled Kaleidoscope from "Adding JIT and Optimizer Support" tutorial.
Basically it works just fine but when I try to run extern'ed putchard
function it aborts.
Please, tell me what am I doing wrong?
Here is more information:
My PC runs FreeBSD.
I've copied the toy source code exactly and didn't change it.

Link with -rdynamic or provide a mapping.

Kaleidoscope tutorial: comments, corrections and Windows support
Hi,
I'm currently working my way through the tutorial with LLVM 3.9.1 on
Windows (finished chapter 4) and stumbled over a few things which could
be improved:
- "LLVMContext" does not exist as a variable -> "TheContext"
- Chapter 3: 5 times
- Chapter 4: 1 time
- Chapter 5: 4 times
- Chapter 6: 2 times
- Chapter 7: 2 times

Kaleidoscope on Windows - bug maybe found?
Addendum: this still fails:
auto ExprSymbol = J.findSymbol("putchard");
As yet, I have no idea why - that symbol even seemed to be exported:
extern "C"
double putchard(double X) {
putchar((char)X);
return 0;
}

I got the compile command from the Kaleidoscope documentation.

Kaleidoscope on Windows - bug maybe found?
To try to find out why it was crashing, I followed the trail of function
calls:
C:\llvm\examples\Kaleidoscope\Orc\initial\toy.cpp
auto ExprSymbol = J.findUnmangledSymbol("__anon_expr");
JITSymbol findUnmangledSymbol(const std::string Name) {
return findSymbol(mangle(Name));
}
JITSymbol findSymbol(const std::string &Name) {
return CompileLayer.findSymbol(Name,

[LLVMdev] Optimization of calls to functions without side effects (from Kaleidoscope example)

The code works, but not as shown in the tutorial. In the tutorial, it shows that multiple calls to pure functions (sin, cos) can be optimized. Without the

[LLVMdev] Function calls only being JIT'd once by Kaleidoscope with MCJIT?
Cheers Lang!
You were right, I was testing this on Linux.
I was planning on committing these changes with the corresponding
changes to the Kaleidoscope tutorial walk-through. Might be a bit of a
surprise to have no explanation of what MCJITHelper and friends is
doing.
I'll try and make time to prepare some patches along these lines, as
well as updating future chapters with the same fix.

[LLVMdev] Function calls only being JIT'd once by Kaleidoscope with MCJIT?
Hi all,
Starting from Chapter 4 of the Kaleidoscope tutorial (where the JIT
support is added), there's some strange behaviour,

define double @foo(double %x, double %y) {
entry:
%addtmp = fadd double %x, %y
ret double %addtmp
}

[LLVMdev] Function calls only being JIT'd once by Kaleidoscope with MCJIT?
Oh - I know what this is. You were running this on Linux, right?
On MacOS I think the symbol is getting double mangled while going through
MCJIT::getSymbolAddress, hence the failure: The IR level foo function gets
compiled to "_foo" in the object file, and then "_foo" gets mangled to
"__foo" when we look it up. Linux doesn't do assembly level name-mangling,
so

[LLVMdev] OCaml Kaleidoscope tutorial links to the C++ tutorial
The link to the next chapter in the navigation list at the top of this page
of the OCaml Kaleidoscope tutorial goes to the C++ version:
http://llvm.org/docs/tutorial/OCamlLangImpl3.html.
The link to chapter 8 in the first chapter is broken:
http://llvm.org/docs/tutorial/OCamlLangImpl1.html#intro. It links to the
unvavailable page http://llvm.org/docs/tutorial/OCamlLangImpl8.html. I think

[LLVMdev] Kaleidoscope toy4 failure seg fault on llvm::ExecutionEngine::getTargetData (this=0x0)
First, you have to call llvm-g++ to use the llvm-gcc front end, but it
doesn't matter here.
I'd like to suggest that you use pastebin to put your code and the send us
the link, so that we can download it. The problem is that TheExecutionEngine
is set to NULL (maybe because of a previous error), but it will be really
better if you use pastebin.

[LLVMdev] Optimization of calls to functions without side effects (from Kaleidoscope example)
Hi Dan,
The tutorial in r119335 does not build : the basicAA pass creation needs to be declared. This is addressed with the 'missing-include' patch, which updates both source code & documentation.
The second point is that beside basicAA, to get the optimizations as shown in the tutorial, (sin(x)*sin(x) -> sin(x)^2), some attributes need to be set on 'sin'. Patch

[LLVMdev] Emitting LLVM IR for control flow
Hi
I'm following the excellent Kaleidoscope tutorial to learn how to build an
interpreter using LLVM. Apologize if this list is not the best place to post
beginner's questions. In Kaleidoscope 2.7 when I run
def binary : 1 (x y) y;
def testfor (x)
(for c = 1, c<2 in
x = x +1 ) :
x;
testfor(1)
unexpectadly get 3.000000 instead of 2.000000. This happens, I believe,
because the

LLVM Kaleidoscope : Compiling to Object Code - Segmentation Fault
Hi David!
Thanks for reaching out, the codegen part of the tutorial is fine, but
when I try to generate the object code file, it throws segfault. Also
please note that I'm using release build of llvm, actually I don't know
whether that is the root cause or not.
I also run through valgrind, it seems like a invalid read from stack.

[LLVMdev] Creating and building LLVM projects with Eclipse CDT on Windows?
I just downloaded LLVM a couple days ago -- I got everything built and
installed quite easily using CMake to generate build files for Eclipse CDT +
MinGW. That much worked like a charm -- but I've spent most of the
intervening time trying to get a simple project set up. :-P
My goal is to create a project consisting of two main parts:
- A backend for WDC 65816
- A frontend including a
