uncompressed FLAC
Hi
i have seen that the dbPowerAmp ripping and encoding software supports a
new so-called "FLAC uncompressed" format, e.g.

i know only the normal flac compression levels from 0 to 8. have i
missed an option on the flac comamnd line tool or how could i achieve

uncompressed FLAC
What dbPowerAmp does is encapsulate the wav file into a FLAC container
without actually compressing it. I guess it can be a bit arguable if you
can technically call it a FLAC file :)
It's like using "Store" mode in RAR, for instance. The idea behing this
"uncompressed FLAC" is to give the FLAC tagging abilities to people who
don't want to compress their files. But

CD ripper software
I've been having problems with Audiograbber, it got the track breaks all
wrong on a couple of CDs. I think it re-used the track breaks from the first
CD when reading subsequent CDs.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good CD ripper? I've also tried
Exact Audio Copy, but didn't get on with it very well.

listening to gsm files
Hello list,
I am having trouble listening to GSM files created by Asterisk using a
browser. I am noticing that some of my users succeed in listening to them
and some others don't. I guess it is something of a codec problem that
does not seem to be installed on all machines (though they are all WinXP).
Anybody knows what one should do to listen to GSM files?
I send files through the

Gnome wine menu entry gone
Well for a long time now my wine menu entry in gnome has been gone. Most threads I read all say to fine the <deleted> tag in .config/menus/applications.menu but mine doesn't have it.

Freeware windows ogg audio CD burner?
Does such a thing exist?
I know I can convert the oggs to wavs and then to the audio CD, but it would
be good to do it in one step.
If there is nothing available right now, are there any freeware /
open-source products in the pipeline?
Thanks

vfs_set_filelen function problem on FAT file systems.
Hi All,
I am facing problem when copying large files from Windows PC to FAT
Partition.
I observed that the vfs_set_filelen() (SMB_VFS_FTRUNCATE) call is actually
creating the Zero file on the FAT Partition which is taking lot of time and
the connection is getting closed.
What is the merit of setting the file size before starting the copy. Anyway
this will create a sparse file on unix file

[sorta offtopic] Removing bad bytes from filenames
I'm moving my Ogg Vorbis collection off of my Linux server and onto my
laptop. I plan on using iTunes to play my collection, but, that's a
whole 'nother can of worms.
I'm having trouble moving my complete collection over because dbPowerAmp
(an application I used to love) made some dumb decisions about naming my
files. For example, in track/album/artist names that contained a

Is there a program that allows conversion of Real files (*.rm) to Ogg
Vorbis? (And I should know the answer to this, but what is the file
extension of Ogg Vorbis files?)

Audio CDs not detected by winecfg, and dbpoweramp CD Ripper
Hi !
Audio CDs seem to be invisible to winecfg. I want to use dbpowerramp CD Ripper under Linux using WINE. CD Ripper doesn't see audio CDs, too.
I am using WINE 1.3.33, Ubuntu 11.10 64bit. Ubuntu itself correctly identifies the CD drives, and the Audio CDs. The CD-Rom-Drives are internal ATAPI drives, and external Plextor drives connected via firewire. If I put _data_ CDs into those drives

Encode wav to uncompressed flac
File size is not important for me. I need audio data from wav file and
metadata in one file. How to encode a wav file to an uncompressed flac file?

Maciej

wma8 decodings
Monty wanted some samples with which to compare Vorbis and WMA, and he
doesn't have a Win32 machine, so I made some.
Microsoft has made their own demo samples available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/WM8/audio.asp
I took their original .wav's, and encoded them with their wma8 encoder
utility (WM8EUTIL.EXE), using all of the available stereo modes at
44.1kHz. This

Different average bitrates on different machines
I am using OggEnc v0.8 (libvorbis rc2) (win32 cli)
I have access to two machines
Pentium 3 450mhz, 192mb, Windows 2000 (SP2)
Athlon 1400mhz, 256mb, Windows 2000 (SP2)
When I encode the same wave file on each machine at the same nominal
bitrate (96kbps), I get output files with different average bitrates.
107kbps on the Athlon, as opposed to 84kbps on the Pentium 3.

Question from XM Radio
Hello folks. I understand this is the development email address, but I don't have any others to use, maybe you can help.
I'm an engineer at XM Satellite Radio in Washington, DC. I'm scouting for other low bandwidth algorithms for some voice content. Speex looks pretty interesting. My goal is to find a promising codec for 2Kbps.
I see the download links on the pages offer

Don't you mean 96/24? Also, which platform (*nix, Mac, Windows)?
