Against the search-xapian directory of the git repo would be best.

Looks plausible to me.
I'd suggest that ~Enquire_perl() just call ref_clear_matchspies(NULL);
rather than repeating all its code inline.

Using a subclass of MatchSpy in Python bindings
Hi everyone,
I've searched the mail archives and I haven't been able to find a
solution to this. I want to subclass a MatchSpy in the Python bindings
and have Enquire use it. However, when I try to do so, I get a
TypeError raised. The following example illustrates this:
>>> import xapian
>>> database = xapian.Database(dbpath)
>>> class

Matchspy and faceting
Have been working recently on a site that classifies posts using tags in
taxonomies, so a post about the Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico might be
tagged 'Subscribers only' (access level), 'Barack Obama' (person), 'Tony
Hayward' (person), 'BP' (company), 'Transocean' (company), 'Gulf of
Mexico' (location).
With some advice from Richard Boulton I

Exception: Couldn't read enough (EOF)
When I try to issue $db->reopen(); I sometimes (not very often, but
often enough to care about it), I get the following exception in the
perl wrappings:
Exception: Couldn't read enough (EOF)
What can cause this? Can it fail if something is commiting when I
issue the call?
I am currently running xapian 1.0.4 on amd64 machines, with a custom

Xapian core dumping on Solaris
Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with xapian (the matchspy branch, with Python
bindings) on Solaris 10 / SPARC. Users can run queries for a few hours
with no problems, then it returns "inflate failed (invalid code
lengths set)" to Python and dumps core. gdb reports:
#0 0xfe6dc910 in inflate_table () from /usr/lib/libz.so.1
#1 0xfe6d9d6c in inflate () from /usr/lib/libz.so.1

I agree. There are a few gotchas, as well

DatabaseCorruptError
Hi there,
My web app uses Xapian via the PHP bindings. I'm getting this error
thrown occasionally when atempting to instantiate a XapianDatabase
object for searching.
DatabaseCorruptError: Expected block 107 to be level 1, not 0
Here's the line that invokes it:
$database = new XapianDatabase(PROJROOT.'/data/xapian/posts');
And my version is xapian-core 1.2.3 with matchspy.

perl bindings
Hi All,
When are the XS-based Perl bindings going to be deprecated in favour of
the SWIG bindings?
Please remove the dead RHEL RPMs from:
http://xapian.org/download
I've built RPMs for RHEL5/CentOS5 (with a different signing key) here:
http://rpm.eprints.org/xapian/5/
RHEL4 is eol and shouldn't be used.
For my own convenience I have written an RPM for the repository:
rpm -ivh

perl bindings to Xapian::Query
QueryParser is great, but I would like to make a query myself, so I can
filter results by a specified value (in this case restricting by epoch
time after a certain value)
My code looks like this, and compiles, and appears like it should work
according to the perl source:
my $query = $qp->parse_query($querystr);
if ($datefilter) {
my $filterepoch = time() - ($datefilter

set_max_expansion in perl-bindings?
Hi,
I've just noticed that set_max_wildcard_expansion() has been removed in
favour of set_max_expansion() in Xapian.
Has the new method been added to the Perl-bindings?
We have some old Perl code that uses set_max_wildcard_expansion(), and I
have a test of too large expansion that now returns "something terrible
happened" instead of"Exception: Wildcard ... expands too much

Perl interface isn't working in 1.2.x
At least it isn't working the way it used to.
Code:
$db = Search::Xapian::Database->new( $dx );
my $qp = Search::Xapian::QueryParser->new();
my $dbSize=$db->get_doccount();
# $qp->set_stemmer(new Search::Xapian::Stem("english"));
# $qp->set_stemming_strategy(STEM_SOME);
# $qp->set_default_op($defaultop);

custom ValueRangeProcessor in Perl?
Hello, I'm using the XS Perl bindings packaged with Debian stable
and am interested in implementing my a custom ValueRangeProcessor
(using DateTimeX::Easy for human-friendly date parsing)
Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's possible with the
add_valuerangeprocessor API via Perl.
Reading the XS/*ValueRangeProcessor.xs source files, I'm seeing
"process_value_range"

Thanks, the Centos 6 repos don't have that rpm and the
http://xapian.org/download page seems to only cover the XS bindings, if
I am reading this correctly:
But I was able to remove the rpm packages and compile and install the
core and swig from source.

return values in groups - price range groups
Hi colleagues,
I have a simple
product database indexed with Xapian. Amazing free tool, thanks you developer(s)!
I need to
have a way to return prices of products in groups, say I have prod prices:
1.01
1.03
10.01
250.44
260.33
I need to
get it to return something like:
Group 1 =
1.01 ? 1.03
Group 2 =
10.01
etc.
Maybe there
is something build-in Xapian that can do

Does xapian support attribute search & faceted search?
Can I use xapian for a search like:
'title' has the phrase "dinner jacket" AND 'color' == BLACK AND 'state' == MA AND 'size' == XL
What about faceted search?
Thanks

Perl bindings and MatchAll / MatchNone
I've just had a quick look at the XS, but I can't see quite how to make
these (or just MatchAll, really) available through the Perl binding ...
where should I start please?
