libvirt: how to set PV-on-HVM drivers??
Hi friend.
I have a problem about using libvirt now.
There is a feather about HVM driver ---PV_on_HVM_drivers, in xm configure, using flag xen_platform_pci can control the feather, but in libvirt I can not find the flags to use pv-on-HVM drivers. So I want to find the answer if the libvirt can control the modules using xml file? thanks a lot.
best regards.

vif-route issue with HVM domU only
Hi,
I seem to have an interesting issue with vif-route.
This is after an update to Xen 4.2.1, switching from xm to xl.
I have 10 PV domUs on the host and two FreeBSD ones.
All the PV domUs are now working nicely.
Since FreeBSD has always been just slightly broken as PV I chose a HVM domU for those, but with PV drivers.
Those PV drivers all blew up now after the upgrade. I''m now trying

Converting HVM to PV kernel CentOS7
All modern kernels are PV compatible. You can take the same Linux image and
run it HVM or PV.

[PATCH][IOEMU] Fix to Allow blktap to be able to be booted as system volume for PV-on-HVM.
Hi All,
I sent the patch to allow blktap to be able to booted as system bolume for
PV-on-HVM.
However, there was a problem that hdN and xvdN were not able to be specified at
the same time.
I made the patch to correct it as follows.
- Whether hdN is defined first is checked.
- If hdN is defined, xvdN is not replaced with hdN.

Investigating memory performance: bare metal vs. xen-pv vs. xen-hvm
I''ve been trying to compare memory access speed between bare-metal, xen-pv
and xen-pvhvm (hvm with pv drivers). In all 3 setups I''m running the same
kernel (3.6.6), built with support for xen, on a 64 core AMD Opteron 6378.
The output of xm info (relevant parts):

How to use PV on HVM
Hi,
I am trying to setup Xen to use "PV on HVM". For this, I did the following.
(1) I followed the tutorial at
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/Fedora13Xen4Tutorial to setup Xen4.0.1 on
Fedora13. I am able to run virt-manager and create a Fedora 13 guest.
(2) I followed the tutorial at
http://bderzhavets.wordpress.com/2010/05/27/pv-on-hvm-at-xen-4-0-on-top-of-fedora-13/to

Converting HVM to PV kernel CentOS7
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry for the typo in the earlier mail.
I have PV-HVM of CentOS 7 & I need to convert it to PV kernel.
Basically here I am trying to see whether my PV_HVM kernel is vulenrable to
this issue given in the following link
http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2015/q3/212
In the above link, it was mentioned that the PV kernel is not vulnerable to
this bug, but HVM is. It didnt say

HVM vs PV - conversion
Greetings,
I would like to know how one can identify if a DomU is PV or HVM? Any docs
which may indicate a way to find out?
I have a CentOS 5.5 64bit DomU which might be HVM - how can this DomU can
be made PV?
Just stop the DomU, and then delete it using Virtual Machine Manager and
the create another config file for a PV DomU and use xm new and then xm
start?
Let''s say I have a config

Converting HVM to PV kernel CentOS7
Thanks for the reply.
If we want to have PV kernel for CentOs 7 , are there any guidelines to
follow?
How we can know before hand itself that this kernel is PV or HVM, without
installing kernel?

hibernation test result of windows srv2008 R2 x64 hvm and winpv guest
Hi
I run some hibernation tests on windows HVM and HVM with windows pv
driver. The test case is common scenario test(one test case of WHQL
test), this test case will hibernate the vm for many times, and doing
some IO operations for devices. The windows guest is Srv2008 R2 x64.
Following is my test result

[PATCH] [IOEMU] Allow blktap to be able to be booted as systemvolume for PV-on-HVM(TAKE 3)
Hi All,
I sent the patch to make blktap work with PV-on-HVM.
I corrected the part that had been pointed out in the Xen community.
・All xvdN disk is looked like hdN.
・All tap disks are checked.(tap:aio, tap:sync, tap:vmdk, etc.)
We cannot use blktap for the volume of the system with PV-on-HVM
and are embarrassed.
Could you apply this patch? Or, please give the comment to me.

[Solved] Xen fixed VNC Ports -- HVM and PV
Dear all,
In case of someone else is trying to do the same configuration as mine, I
stated below the steps to configure HVM and PV''s domains to use FIXED VNC
Ports (instead of having Xen automatically assign one unused port based on
domain id):
For HVM''s:

vncconsole=0 # Don''t start vncviewer after "create" the

Re: unable to access Linux HVM via xm console - Couldnot read tty from store: No such file or directory
HVM = fully virtualized. The question is, why are you using fully virtualized domUs? Why not paravirtualized (PV)?

Install FreeBSD x86 PV DomU without HVM
Hello all,
I have a question about the installation of a FreeBSD i386 PV DomU. Is
it possible to install a FreeBSD i386 PV DomU directly from Dom0
without the need of a HVM DomU? So my Dom0 is Debian Squeeze running
on Xen 4.2. I found no information about this in the web. They all
first create a HVM guest and convert it to PV which I think is a very
uncomfortable way.
Best Regards
