I was taught in kitty school that running a ntp server in a vm was a bad idea. Is that still the case?

I want to create a virtual machine from scratch in ESX but I can't figure out how to create the disks - the vmdk files. Any hints on how that can be done or even if it's possible at all ? Thanks

VM not booting with physical hardware attached
Dear all, I'm looking for a bit of help with a problematic VM. We have an hypervisor which has 4 eth ports. 3 are already used, and I wanted to pass the 4th one directly to a VM (which is fully working without it). So, I modified the XML accordingly (which matches our hardware), adding: <hostdev mode='subsystem' type='pci' managed='yes'> <source>

Re: KVM resource analysis
Dear Adam, Depending on what exactly you want to do with your data and the precision you want to gather, Munin can be a great helping tool. It will give you the opportunity to gather data about your resources on the hypervisors and their usage. Furthermore, it comes with Libvirt plugins that allow you to check the resources usages of your VMs on said hypervisor. The URL is:

Re: passthrough of PCI-device
Good morning, there is a typo in my description; the line <address domain='0x0' bus='0x1' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/> should be <address domain='0x0' bus='0x2' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/> That was correct in my xml-file. Isn't there anybody how can help me with that? Regards Michael Weis Von:

Re: Migrate Win2k3 to KVM
Hi, Do you need the exact error message (the codes)? I don't want Virtio. I want to boot my image first. As I mentioned I can't use the mergeide.req on the physical machine but I can do anything with the image (if I don't het error messages from the virt-win-reg). I don't know if my restore to iSCSI volume was perfect. There wasn't any error messages and the imag is able to

unattended cloning
Morning, I have a KVM guest running Win 2012 with MS SQL 2012. In order to provide a quick method of restoring the service should the live server die, we've decided to clone it to a preserved state. Ideally, this clone should also be kept up to date and cloning should be done on a regular basis. Is there any reason not to do unattended cloning? As in, when I leave on a Friday afternoon,

dependency to storeconfig
Hi all, I''ve noticed, that once using storeconfig, if the db (in my case mysql) is down than puppet wont start... is there a real reason for making puppet depend on the db?
