Smartest way to evaluate question forms
Hi, I'm trying to help a friend who is doing a thesis in a nurse college, to evaluate medical question forms. There are about 30 questions giving more than 110 parameters to describe each responding person's (gender, health etc.) and there are about 120 question forms to evaluate. I have basically 2 questions. 1. What to search for. 2. How to evaluate it statisticaly. As for No. 1. I have

dir list behavior differences?
Hello, I have set up an anonymous rsync server that seems to work as expected. However when I try to access the server from several other unix boxes using rsync with a command like this; rsync netlib3.cs.utk.edu::netlib I get the motd and then a line that states client: nothing to do Now I would expect this to give me a directory listing. I do get the directory listing as expected when

Dell PE 6850 with CentOS-3
Hi list, I'm seeing problems when probing cdrom and floppy devices on a Dell PowerEdge 6850 (4x3.16GHz, 16GB RAM) with CentOS-3.4 using 2.4.21-27.0.4.ELhugemem. When I run snmpwalk the system hangs with 100% wait on all 8 cpu's (in HyperThreading mode) for approx 20s before it goes back to idle state. Same thing if I open/probe any of the cdrom/floppy devices in other ways also. If I

CentOS4 u4 - Dell PE 1950 - SAN/NAS High Load
Hi I have a pair of 1950's running as a failover pair of front ends for a Fibre array and a SCSI array. i am currently just running on the SCSI array and the fibre is not in production yet. I am seeing load on the active node sit at around 8 and throughput to the SCSI array is around 25MB/s - I would imagine i should see better figures that this and less machine load. Can anyone give

how do I manage a Dell PE 860 server via IPMI?
Hi all I'm trying to get to grips with this one, but just can't figure it out. I recently acquired some 2nd hand Dell Poweredge 860 servers, and noticed that they have built in remote management interfaces. So, I have setup one, and assigned an IP address to it, but have no idea on how to access it remotely. Google'ing for an answer didn't bring me more than general product

Kernel panic with kernel 2.6.16-xen3_86.1 in a Dell PE 1850
Hi, I''m getting a kernel panic when booting a Dell PowerEdge 1850 with kernel 2.6.16-xen3_86.1 which I installed from the xen-3.0-x86_32-rhel4.1.bin.tar package I got from XenSource. My /boot/grub/grub.conf configuration is this: title Xen (2.6.16-xen3_86.1) root (hd0,0) kernel /xen-3.gz com1=115200,8n1 noreboot module /vmlinuz-2.6.16-xen3_86.1_rhel4.1

CentOS 4.4 on Dell PE 6400 - not rebooting ...
Hi All, This is my first post ... I *HAD* been trying to get RHEL AS 4 onto this Dell PE 6400/700, but it just wouldn't go without some weird tweaking. I am VERY happy to say that CentOS 4.4 installed without a hitch! NICELY done folks! The only real issue for me is that the machine fails to reboot or shutdown correctly. It requires physical interaction with the power switch,

Problem with Xen4CentOS
Hi folks, we (the company i am working for) are running several dozens of virtualisation servers using CentOS 6 + Xen4CentOS as the virtualisation infrastructure. With the latest versions of all packages installed [1], we see failures in live-migration of stock-CentOS6 HVM guests, leaving a "Domain-unnamed" on the source host, while the migrated guest runs fine on the target host.

tdm400p and dell 2600 poweredge
Hi all: I've been developing and testing on a tdm400p card and it's been going well. As you probably know, the tdm400p needs an ide power supply, but the dell poweredge 2600 that this card is destined for eventually has all the power supplied on the backplane with no ide cables. The thing is, on the motherboard in the server, there is an ide ribbon connector, and beside that, something

Just Take dCAP at Astricon?
Since it is Saturday evening (7PM EST) I am asking this on the list in case someone who knows sees it and can answer. Astricon is in my back yard for the first time, and I could hit you with a rock. I would always like to attend, and spoke at the 2007 Astricon in Phoenix but don't have the idle cycles. Question: Can I just go to Astricon and take the dCAP exam only? In and out? Cost? I

Managing upgrades
Greetings, I''ve deployed a few solutions involving Puppet in my professional past, and always found upgrades to be somewhat non-trivial. Transitioning from 0.24.x to 0.25.x was quite difficult due to some fairly big structural changes. In general upgrading the puppetmaster is easily achieved, being a single central box managed day-to-day by my team, however slinging all of the nodes

It's an excellent collection of R code snippets, and a veritable online oyster containing pearls of his wisdom :). Install Centos 6 x86_64 on Dell PowerEdge 2970 and a SSD (hardware probing issues)
I have a fleet of 2970s and we are upgrading the hardrives on the motherboard SATA ports (A/B not the PERC backplane) when a "detecting hardware" is performed the system crashes, reboots and gives an E1422 error code (useless video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhyMeUHJar4). We narrowed it down to a motherboard BIOS issue, if we remove the SSD or add noprobe to the kernel the
