Any recommendation about benchmarking tools on Linux virtual machine?
Hi all, Do you have any recommendation about benchmarking tools on Linux virtual machine for measure the potential performance hit by virtualization, especially on multi-threads computation, since I doubt if the CentOS VM can fully make use of the 32 vCPUs (out of 64 physical cores) that I allocated to it. Hot Cloning - clone running Virtual Machines
Greetings, I am running a test automation service which makes use of QEMU/KVM. As the tests run for few minutes, the time spent booting the OS (Windows) is quite a waste of resources so I decided to play a bit around the idea of hot cloning running VMs. Following an old discussion I found, I proceeded with saving the VM state through virsh save, edit its XML file with virsh save-image-edit and

Is it possible to clone an NT ACL from one file or dir to a totally different file or dir ?
Can I use a command like this to clone an NT ACL? getfattr -n security.NTACL templateFile | sed -e 's/templateFile/realFile/' | sudo setfattr --restore=- I can see that the attribute gets copied over but when I view the ACL in Windows security tab it's not the same ACL, it's much bigger and includes all kinds of default-like stuff. I'm trying to find a way to update

Convert a locally stored copy of an esxi virtual machine to libvirt using virt-v2v?
Hi, Is there a way to use a locally stored copy of an exsi created virtual machine to convert to libvirt via virt-v2v? I don't want to have to download the image from the esxi server each time I run virt-v2v as that copy takes a long time. Perhaps I'm just missing the command line option. What I would like to do is copy the image manually to the virt-v2v server and work on it locally

Dedicated GDM session for a virt-manager virtual machine?
Dear list, Something has been perplexing me lately. I have a bunch of Windows 7 virtual machines running on top of Fedora 20 in KVM using virt-manager. One of the big problems is that users who need the Windows VM's don't know how to user virt-manager and when they accidentally reboot a machine I have to manually setup the virt-manager session for them and make it full-screen. That

How to enable vmx (virtual machine extensions) in virt-manager
I need to enable virtual machine extensions, like as described at http://www.server-world.info/en/note?os=Ubuntu_14.04&p=kvm&f=8 . I could do this in virsh, but I'd like to know if it's possible to do in virt-manager. I don't see an obvious way to do that.

[PATCH FOR DISCUSSION ONLY] virt-resize tool for resizing virtual machines.
Unfinished patch to implement virt-resize. The concept is solid. It just needs a little more thought as to exactly how containers [of containers] expand and shrink in response to user requests. Rich. -- Richard Jones, Virtualization Group, Red Hat http://people.redhat.com/~rjones libguestfs lets you edit virtual machines. Supports shell scripting, bindings from many languages.

How do I make multiple console connections to one virtual machine?
How do I make multiple console connections to one virtual machine? If I try to connect two different terminal windows to one virtual machine, they both connect to the same console. Is there a way to get more than one consoles to a single virtual machine? I cannot use a network interface to accomplish this either, so ''telnet in'' type solutions won''t do me any good.
