Can't NAT in KVM
Good morning, list, I've been trying to get my KVM virtual machines to connect to the Interwebs for the last 3 hours with no success. I'm running Debian Wheezy (fully patched) and building virtual machines using KVM in Virt Manager. With the default, factory settings shown in virt manager, I have a default virtual network with the device name virbr0, which starts on boot and uses the

Zero byte files
Hi all, I have a Centos 6 box running samba-3.6.9 and I have a problem with files turning to 0 bytes after being edited and saved. One of the users reported that he changed the name of two files and both ended up sized 0 bytes and opening them revealed them to be empty. Has anyone had a similar problem? I've been looking for 3 days and there's obvious pattern to the events

Logging logins with preexec and Samba/LDAP
Hi all, I had the following line in my smb.conf with which to log access to the home share when users logged in: preexec = /bin/echo \"%u logged in to %m at %T\" >> /var/log/samba/logons.log Since updating to LDAP however, it's stopped working and I suspect that smbldap cant handle the % substitutions for user, machine and time. Has anyone else run into this problem? If

mounting images created using dd that contain two partitions
Hi all, I am trying to mount images that I previously created with dd and the images have two partitions (swap and LVM). I use these images to house data for my Xen Guests. For some reason (possibly Kernel conflicts for paravirtualized domains) I am unable to boot my Guest images. Failing which I would like to mount the disk images and atleast get my data out of them. dd -o loop server.img

Domain0 with Kernel 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen fails to boot Guests with Kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen
Hi all, I am in a bit of a fix here, I have several Guests paravirtualized running on a Dom0 that is currently running the 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5xen Kernel. All my guests (administered by different people) have subsequently been updated to later versions of the kernel (namely 2.6.18-164.el5xen or 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen). Ones that are still running are using the Kernel 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5xen while

Multiple Login scripts
Hi all, Just a quick question about login scripts for a large number of users who change rooms a lot. I have several rooms each with a printer, and nearly a thousand users divided into two main groups - pupils and teachers who change rooms on a routine basis. Is it possible to set up multiple login scripts that would be executed in sequence i.e. run by user is %u, and machine is %m is it

Samba 4 internal DNS and reverse zones
Hi All, I currently have another thread open on squid authentication with Samba 4 and am going to try authenticating against kerberos instead of NTLM. According to the docs for the web filter I'm using, it's essential for Kerberos to be able to resolve reverse DNS so I've spent the last weekend trying to get this working. Various different documents and howtos exist but none of

PF - pf not loading non-persist tables from main ruleset on 8.3-PRERELEASE
Hello list, I installed a box recently and updated it to 8.3-PRERELEASE on 2012/04/11 I'm experiencing this extremely weird behavior where PF refuses to load standard and const table definitions from the main ruleset. - persist tables load just fine - normal and const tables inside anchors load just fine Does anyone else have the same problem ? I'll try to update the kernel again,

Is there some reason that iptables-save should do the sorting for userspace scripts? Another alternative would be to always load the

This comparison is a bit far fetched, given that ordering of rules is so important (accept before drop, etc). The order in which tables are output in iptables-save is largely
