Hi,
I for one don't expect insults after such a start. Please share your
thoughts, constructive feedback is always useful. Even if there may be
good reasons for some things being as they are.

Ok Feri, of course there is no reason for insults, but still, some
groups take offense at any criticism. If I sound bitchy it is only as

Ok thanks, this also would be good information 'up front'. I can only
comment on how it could be better for a beginner, not in what is
actually available if you know where to look.

Hi,
As someone who just recently came to the Syslinux project, with a
different agenda but still a Syslinux noob maybe I can add my
perspective.
The Doc/Wiki makes perfect sense from a DEVELOPERS point of view, but
I think the point here is maybe from a USERS point of view not so
much.

module and leveraging the core syslinux

EXTLINUX
I am trying to boot a ramdisk on a usb stick in read-only mode using
extlinux. When the system boots all I am getting is a blinking cursor.
The stick booted with lilo, but I had some issues with lilo so I am
trying extlinux.
1) I partitioned the stick as a linux partition, formated it ext2, and
mounted /dev/sda1 on /mnt/flash.
2) I am running extlinux 3.86.
3) excuted "extlinux -i

summary.manova rank deficiency error + data
Dear R-users;
Previously I posted a question about the problem of rank deficiency in
summary.manova. As somebody suggested, I'm attaching a small part of
the data set.

"test" <-
structure(.Data = list(structure(.Data = c(rep(1,3),rep(2,18),rep(3,10)),
levels = c("1", "2", "3"),

LVM support
Hi,
Hearing the discussion about whether LILO should stay in Debian, I
started to wonder whether adding LVM support to EXTLINUX was
possible. That's the main selling point of LILO, as far as I know.
And GRUB2 already has a module for parsing LVM metadata:
http://svn.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/trunk/grub2/disk/lvm.c?root=grub&view=log
Couldn't we somehow incorporate it?

index.cond in xyplot
Dear R-users
I have 5 dependent variables (y1 to y5) and one independent variable (x) and
3 conditioning variables (m, n, and 0). Each of the conditioning variables
has 2 levels. I created 2*4 panel plots.
xyplot(y1+y2+y3+y4+y5 ~ x | m*n*o,layout = c(4,2))
I would like to reorder the 8 panels. I tried to use index.cond (e.g.,
index.cond = list(c(1,3,2,4,5,7,6,8)) but it didn't work out.

mfrow
Dear members,
I want to create 8 graphs and write it into one page using mfrow=c(4,2).
How to make all graphs (including the titles, legends, line types) to be
scale down (resized proportionally).
As an illustration, below is the code:
pdf("testmfrow.pdf")
par(mfrow=c(4,2))
x<-seq(1:10)
y1<-rnorm(10)
y2<-rnorm(10,mean=2,sd=1)
y3<-rnorm(10,mean=3,sd=1)

Freeze on boot ?
I try to use a linux on a soekris : http://www.soekris.com/net4801.htm .
This is a tiny PC without screen nor keyboard. So i can use only a RS232
console.
I can find some information on the use of lilo on this card with success (a
modified debian).
I have choose to use a mandrake then the mklivecd script to transforme it
in .iso file (wich make it read only). I have create my own script to

Using syslinux to boot from .... hard disk?
Hi all,
Sorry if this question seems odd. Is it possible to use syslinux to boot
from a regular hard disk? I know that's exactly what grub, lilo etc. are
doing, but I would really like to utilize the comboot option of
syslinux. Are there LBA limitations to such a setup?

boot Soekris 4801 with EXTLINUX
Hi.
I am trying to use EXTLINUX 3.08 to boot a Soekris net4801 from a
CompaqFlash card.
BIOS reports the CF card as the first master harddisk.
During boot/load the loader hangs after this output:
EXTLINUX 3.08 2005-05-19
PXELINUX and LILO works fine on the same setup
It this a general problem with Soekris/net4801 and EXTLINUX?

Laptop+SDMMC+Extlinux+Memdisk+Floppy images=headaches
Hello syslinuxers
I'm stuck with a scientific problem which gives me headaches:
I have a laptop (Gateway MX3410) which has a SD memory card reader.
Recently an interesting thought crossed my mind: why don't I setup
a 2GB SD card as a harddrive and put some rescue tools on it.
So I dug on the net and I came across the idea of using memdisk
to boot floppy images without the need of a

MANOVA and Extra Sums-of-Squares Tests
I would like to conduct an extra sum-of -squares test that compares a full
MANOVA model (with all 1st order interactions) to a reduced model (no
interactions) to determine if I can drop all interactions at the same time.
This is analagous to an extra sum-of-squares F-test in ANOVA, but instead
using MANOVA. Is there a command in R that does this? If not, is there a
command that calculates

help with a regression
Hello, I have a data frame with the following variables:
ID, X1,X2,X3,X4,X5,Y1,Y2,Y3,Y4,Y5 and some other that do not matter, some of the X and Y can be missing (NA). I want to compute the slope of the linear regression Y ~ X for each subject, so using
apply(DF,1,FUN,ra.rm=TRUE) now How do I define FUN? The X are different for each subject.
Thanks for any help
