Intel SATA controller (cmiiw) not recognized by Centos 5.1 installation?
Hi, there, I tried to install Centos 5.1 on a Dell Inspiron 530 box I just bought, but failed due to invalid drive. The installation did not recognize either the DVD nor the hard disk. Joseph from the community said it is likely that Centos can't recognize the controller -- Intel SATA controller (cmiiw). Did anyone solve this problem before? How did you do it? Here's the related

gmirror+gjournal: unable to boot after crash
Hi, after one month with gmirror and gjournal running on a 7.0-RELEASE #p2 amd64 (built from latest CVS source), the box hung a couple of times when on high disk load. Finally, while building some port it won't boot for no reason obvious to me. This is what I get with kernel.geom.mirror.debug=2: ata2-master: pio=PIO4 wdma=WDMA2 udma=UDMA133 cable=40 wire ad4: 476940MB <SAMSUNG HD501LJ

DVD Shrink - no DVD devices found
I am new to Wine and really struggling. I'm trying to get DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter running on my Kubuntu 5.04. My system is current. I have a 2.8Mhz machine with 1Gb memory and lots of space on my 160Gb hard drive. I have a Plextor DVD+-RW and an HP CD-RW. They are /dev/hdc and /dev/hdd respectively. Here is my /fstab file: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # <file

Troubles with my HDD
Hello all, I am new to this list and hope that my mail is not OFF TOPIC. After looking around for 2 months now, to find a solution, I will try it here now. Now the scenario: I bought a new cool dell laptop: INSPIRON 8100, 512MB RAM, NVIDEA GeForce2Go 32MB, 30GB Hitachi hard disk and a DVD. I bought it with WinME preinstalled, because it wasn't possible to get it with linux nor without an

Problem communicating from server to client
Hello, I've set up a tinc "server" named "spitzer" in proxy arp mode, and a client "inspiron" that connects to it. inspiron runs tinc 1.0.16, spitzer runs 1.0.11. Ping and ssh from inspiron to spitzer and other hosts in the network (via spitzer) works fine. Ping and ssh from other hosts in the network to inspiron works fine (i.e. going through spitzer works

sample, windows & vbr
Hi, I'm a newbie to audio compression. And I have several question about ogg. 1. How many bits a vorbis sample take ? does the sample size 16 bits ? like the mp3 ? CMIIW 2. How do a decoder recognize how many sample it takes in a second ? does it related with the code books ? 4. Does vorbis use VBR ? 3. What is function of the Windows ? and what is the output of the windows ? Thanks

NEC 1300A DVD-R writing
Hi, so I just bought a NEC 1300A, primarily, because it allows me to write DVD+ and -RW. Using DVD-R discs (and currently no options to try other media, due to shops being closed), I'm unable to write anything, using either the dvd+rwtools port, or the dvdrtools. I've exhausted all references to be found in google, which are in a language I understand, so I'm hoping the list can

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive [SOLVED]
On the system I'm testing with the CD-Rom drive is IDE but the softlink at /dev/cdrom points to the scsi device and that's not working with the automounter for some reason. Each time I reinstall I have to delete the soft link and recreate it pointing at /dev/hda instead. > -----Original Message----- > From: centos-bounces at centos.org > [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org]

Firewall/router
I was using pfSense in a vm under esx but I want to move to Xen and prefer something that can run as a pv guest. Anyone got any reco's of what can run on top of CentOS to perform a similar role as pfSense (perform nat/pat and firewall etc between two interfaces)? Thanks for any ideas! jlc

[PATCH] ocfs2: return f_fsid info in ocfs2_statfs()
Currently f_fsid of struct kstatfs returned from ocfs2_statfs() is undefined (at least it should be filled with 0). Since in some conditions, f_fsid value might be used as (f_fsid, ino) pare to uniquely identify a file, ocfs2 should return a defined unique f_fsid value from ocfs2_statfs(). This patch uses uuid_hash as a unique ID to initiate f_fsid value, the 32bits width is enough for ocfs2

Wondering about CentOS 5.1 functionality
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi All, I'm giving serious thought to loading 5.1 on my Inspiron 1501 laptop, but I'm wondering about certain hardware support such as the following: - - Broadcom Wireless Adapter - 1390 Wlan (bcm43xx) - - USB (Pny Memory Stick - everytime on previous version CentOS has eaten the damned things) - - pptp vpn client(s) Any comments? thanks,

Limiting bandwidth usage - where to begin
Hi, I am very new in this list.. I want each of my internet users to be limited in his/her usage of bandwidth. The limitation will be done in my squid (linux) box, as they all have to be authenticated by squid before going to the internet jungle.. Then anybody here could tell me where to begin to do such thing ? Any idea/solution would be very appreciated TIA regards, aqil

[LLVMdev] Efficient Pattern matching in Instruction Combine
Even if you can't implement such an algorithm sanely, ISTM that auto-generating this code from a table (or whatever), and choosing canonical results (to avoid a fixpoint issue), rather than what seems to be hand-additions of every possible set of minimizations on three variables, is still a better solution, no? At least then you wouldn't have human errors, and a growing file that makes

Problem with booting/grub (?)
Earlier this evening, I had the interesting experience of shutting down my machine (because of that lp out-of-sync problem, discussed elsewhere), and watching it not come back up. I admit that I changed out one of my DVD writers for another one, but I don't understand how that could have had any effect on this: When I restarted the machine, it came up to the point where it normally shows:

SCEV cannot compute the trip count of Simple loop
Hi Deepali, SCEV reports the backedge taken count as "((-1 * (sext i32 (3 + %x) to i64))<nsw> + ((sext i32 (3 + %x) to i64) smax (sext i32 (6 + %x) to i64)))", so symbolically it does have an answer. Ideally SCEV should be able to exploit <nsw> on (3 + %x) and (6 + %x) to fold the expression above to "3", but due to some systemic issues SCEV can't exploit

[LLVMdev] Efficient Pattern matching in Instruction Combine
Thanks Sean for the reference. I will go through it and see if i can implement it for generic boolean expression minimization. DVD RAM drive and CentOS 4
I just picked up a Sony DRU-820A, 2 layar, DVD+-R, +-RW, RAM drive. It seems to be ok in the normal modes, but I'm not sure what I need to due with the RAM usage. I have some DVD-RAM disks. I put one in on the off chance it would just work, but it said it wasn't formatted. What do I need to due to use the this in RAM mode. I didn't find anything that seemed to be aimed at this.

Needed to use -s option with syslinux to boot USB disk on Dell Laptop
Hi, I WAS experiencing a problem while attempting to boot Knoppix V5.0.1 off a USB key using SYSLINUX. Having almost sent the following text as a request for help I can now tag it as a solution! :) The USB drive is a Corsair Flash Voyager 1024 MB, with a 745 MB partition I'm trying (now succesfully) to use for the purpose of booting Knoppix. I've followed the instructions on this
