x86 and GPU backend support for irregular accesses
Hello !
Does the x86 back-end generate gather-scatter instructions for
LLVM gather-scatter intrinsics ?
Also, do the NVPTX and AMDGPU back-ends generate equivalent instructions
for GPUs ?
Thank You,
Sanjay

System hangs during last stages of LLVM build | Tips on speeding it up ?
Hello,
My system hangs every time during last stages of building LLVM ( starting
at 95% in a CMake build ) using CMake or Ninja, sometime close to the
linking of llvm-dysmutil. Could you please suggest tips that could speed up
the compilation ?
Thank You,
Sanjay

Legal names for Functions and other Identifiers
Hello,
I'd like to know the format a function's name must conform to. Can I be
pointed to LLVM documention that specifies the nomenclature for functions
and other Identifiers as well (%registers, ModuleID etc.) ?
Thanks,
Sanjay

Compiling LLVM with locally built clang | Errors
Hello,
I issued the following command to point the build to use clang and clang++,
from a local llvm build directory included in PATH, instead of
/usr/bin/{cc,c++},
cmake -DCMAKE_C_COMPILER=clang -DCMAKE_CXX_COMPILER=clang++ ../llvm_src
The configuration failed with the error stating the compiler didn't
recognize '-std=c++11' flag, whereas clang compiled a dummy c++ file with

Safety of changing values of variables by editing CMakeCache.txt Vs supplying them through the command line
Hello,
I'm working on a project involving LLVM and keep shifting between the Debug
and Release build by assigning different values to CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE in
<llvm_build>/CMakeCache.txt and then building it.
I wanted to know if this was a safe alternative to re-configuring the build
after removing <llvm_build>/CMakeFiles/ and <llvm_build>/CMakeCache.txt.
Thanks,
Sanjay

Does InitializeAllTargets when only some enabled ?
Do the InitializeAllTargets*() routines call the initialisation routines of
all targets even when only some are built ?

Compiling CUDA with clang on Windows
Dear all,
In the official document <https://llvm.org/docs/CompileCudaWithLLVM.html>,
it is mentioned that CUDA compilation is supported on Windows as of
2017-01-05. I used msys2 to install clang 5.0.1. Then I installed cuda 8.0.
However, I basically could not compile any code of cuda by the prescribed
setting. I wounder if anyone can successfully compile cuda code by the
clang on Windows.

Legal names for Functions and other Identifiers
Thanks for the heads up Philip !
I did come across a strange case where LLVM allowed "%" to be a part of a
function's name. This was in the context of my patch
https://reviews.llvm.org/D33985, where I prefix the name of the source
function and the Scop ( A special kind of Region that Polly can optimize,
the name of the Scop is the name of the Region ) to the name of the PTX
kernel

llvm-dev Digest, Vol 159, Issue 2
Hal, Tobias, et al. –
I am strongly in favor of seeing a broader range of loop transformations, supported by strong dependence analysis, added to LLVM, and the Polly infrastructure seems to be by far our best bet to make that happen. I have a couple of questions:
1) Integer constraint libraries like ISL (and Omega, which I used extensively in a previous project) are fundamentally solving

[CUDA] Lost debug information when compiling CUDA code
Hi,
I needed to debug some CUDA code in my project; however, although I used -g when compiling the source code, no source-level information is available in cuda-gdb or cuda-memcheck.
Specifically, below is what I did:
1) For a CUDA file a.cu, generate IR files: clang++ -g -emit-llvm --cuda-gpu-arch=sm_35 -c a.cu;
2) Instrument the device code a-cuda-nvptx64-nvidia-cuda-sm_35.bc (generated

[LLVMdev] CUDA front-end (CUDA to LLVM IR)
Hi,
I wanted to ask whether there is ongoing effort (or an already established
tool) that enables to convert CUDA kernels (that uses CUDA specific
intrinsics, e.g., threadId.x, __syncthreads(), ...) to LLVM IR. I am aware
that I can do this for OpenCL with the help of libclc but I can not find
something similar for CUDA.
Thanks

Status of CUDA 11 support
Hi,
I work in a large CUDA codebase and use Clang to build some of our CUDA code to improve compilation speed. We're planning to upgrade to CUDA 11 soon, and it appears that CUDA 11 is not yet supported in LLVM.
>From the LLVM commits history, I can see that work on CUDA 11 has started. Is this currently being worked on? What is the remaining work left? And is any help needed to finish

CUDA compilation "No available targets are compatible with this triple." problem
Hi,
I have trouble compiling CUDA code with Clang. The following is a command I tried:
> clang++ axpy.cu -o axpy --cuda-gpu-arch=sm_35 --cuda-path=/usr/local/cuda
The error message is
error: unable to create target: 'No available targets are compatible with this triple.'
The info of the LLVM I'm using is as follows:

clang version 6.0.0

cuda __shfl_sync problem
Hi,
First of all, i'm not sure if i should be posting this here or in
cfe-dev, but here it goes.
In order to instrument CUDA kernels i first generate device IR with:
clang++ -x cuda --cuda-device-only -emit-llvm --cuda-gpu-arch=sm_52 -o
device.bc
I also have a library that contains the instrumentation stubs for which
i generate IR similarly and i link it with the device IR

[LLVMdev] Cuda programs on LLVM
Hello ,
How to execute a cuda program using llvm?
More specifically, nvcc produces some temporary files during its
compilation. I want to convert the .cu.cpp to .ll format and optimize it.
The .cu.cpp file contains typedefs and enums used by cuda runtime and also
the host part of the code
and the ptx file contains the kernel definition. How can i run the program
after optimization? Will Rhodin
