Re: BUG: Forum driving away experienced users
Trouble is if you split the list into newbies and non-newbies the people the other Alan despises so much won't think of themselves as newbies.
As a relative newbie myself I find it hard to swallow some of the near-elitist attitude shown by some experts, calling someone who isn't as experienced as you a noob is just plain insulting. I hope when those people learn something new they

Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all,
First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question.
Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list
is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed
Ubuntu" thread for a typical example.
I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my
inbox. I plan to filter based on

RFD: create new list and forum 'wine-newbies'
It has been suggested that the wine-users list
is now too busy, and needs to be split into two:
one for experienced users, and one for beginners.
However, this might leave the beginners adrift
without any experienced people to help them.
So I don't think we should do it unless at least
a handful of experienced users are willing to join the
new group and lend a hand. I'm willing, but I

Absolute noob needs help getting and useing the right bits
We are trialing UBUNTU on my son's computer and want to load WINE so that he can use some of his windows programs - of course mostly games.....
Our problem is that the PC is a standalone with no internet connection at this time - it will soon. We downloaded wine-1.1.28.tar.bz2 onto a usb drive and copied over, but we are such know-nothings about this that we are stuck. I have seen something

Why no forum app in rails yet?
Hi Guys,
So creating a forums application seems like something that rails can
handle easily and well, and whatever implementation that came to
fruition would be head and shoulders above existing products like
vBulliten and phpBB.
Even the existing rails forums are using php-based forum products! An
insult if you ask me.
So my question -- is there any current development of a rails-based

Mysql Server has gone away?
First off, amazing plugin! Being a rails noob, it helped me do some stuff
I would''ve thought way over my head. Which brings me to my problem. :)
I''m using backgroundrb to handle some processes that take so long that I
don''t want them tied to a page refresh (several xml-rpc calls and saving
data in text files on the server). I got it working with backgroundrb

Thanks to Austin English for taking on most of the work keeping
winetricks up to date!
(And apologies for my own slowness in doing another release.)

(1) arima.mle implementation; (2) r-newbie forum
Has arima.mle (MASS, Ch.15, p.464) been implemented in R?
[A search through contributed packages and R-FAQ suggests not,
and I don't think function 'lme' from package 'nlme' would
accomplish the same sort of thing, although it permits
correlated errors. A search of the CRAN site shows this
question has been asked some time ago, and it was suggested

Is anyone experienced writing Sphinx documentation?
I've read through the docs, but honestly this is driving me crazy and I
shouldn't have to fight this hard to just to write some documentation.
Here's the problem:
Look at llvm/docs/CommandGuide/FileCheck.rst
I want to add a table of contents that looks like this [
http://llvm.org/docs/CMake.html] to that file. Nothing I've tried works.

newbie question re block-attach on ubuntu 11.10
I''m a complete newbie at Xen, just getting started.
I was happy to see that Ubuntu 11.10 includes Xen again,
http://zulcss.wordpress.com/2011/09/04/xen-4-1-1-on-ubuntu/
So I installed ubuntu 11.10''s precompiled Xen,
and started playing around with it.
I''m not even trying to start another VM at the moment,
just playing around with mounting block devices,

Updated list of games with both Gamerankings.com and Appdb.winehq.org scores
Ever wish you could see which *good* games work on Wine?
Here's my try at making a simple page which lets you see that at a glance.
http://kegel.com/wine/games.html lists the top 50 or so games from
each of the last dozen years.
http://kegel.com/wine/games-2010.html is the same thing, but just for
the first half of 2010.
Clicking on a column sorts by that column.

Wine: Bug 12524 - MBT Navigator: can't create object: ADOCommand
Hello,
I saw your bug over at http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12524
and had the same ADOCommand issue on wine-1.0.1 today.
I assume Louis Lenders' solution worked for you?
I'm on Mac OS X Tiger and got wget through MacPorts and then tried

Requesting advice from experienced * users/developers
Greetings,
I have a couple of questions and figured I would put them all in one
message to not spam the list as much as possible. I have searched
voip-info, google and the list archives for all of these questions. If
I have missed the correct response, please accept my apologies.
I have been stuck on these for a long time and I am really hoping that
the other users out there will be able to

Rails Newbie Forum?
Hi all.
I''m a new convert (or at least I want to be a convert) to Rails. I''ve
got the book, have read it, done bits and pieces of the demo, and tried
to apply it to a rather complicated DB I''ve got here. I''ve got a ton of
questions, and before I bore everyone here, is there a dedicated forum
for Rails newbies to get help?

Problem is, Wikis in general suck and voip-info.org in particular is quite
useless except as a random clicky-clicky exercise. You ever use the search
on voip-info.org? It's almost like someone

Public Apology to Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Singapore
I was misconstrued as having insulted Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. My
words were twisted and misinterpreted and I feel that there is a need to
explain myself and set the record straight.

Wrath of the Lich King
I just installed Ubuntu for the first time yesterday, so I'm still pretty much a total noob. I installed Wine and got the other programs that I needed. Everything went smoothly. I installed World of Warcraft and Burning Crusade. Those installed fine. When I put in the WotLK disc, however, it says, "Access Denied." I also tried downloading it from the WoW website. It downloaded for
