Snapshot auto-delete unmount problem
Incase anyone is interested this issue was caused by turning on brick
multiplexing.
Switching it off made the problem go away...

panel data analysis possible with mle2 (bbmle)?
Dear R community,
I want to estimate coefficients in a (non-linear) system of equations using
'mle2' from the "bbmle" package. Right now the whole data is read in as just
one long time series, when it's actually 9 cross sections with 30 observations
each. I would like to be able to test and correct for autocorrelation but
haven't found a way to do this in this package.

An old ld-linux.so hole
Section I. Overview
Hello,
About a half year ago there was some rumour on bugtraq concerning a buffer
overflow in Linux dynamic linkers, ld.so and ld-linux.so. You can take a look
at the beginning of the thread at http://www.geek-girl.com/bugtraq/1997_3/0089.html
to refresh old memories; I''ll capitalize anyway.
Briefly, there exists a buffer overrun in ld-linux.so versions 1.7.14,

Preexec on Profiles
I'm trying to get a preexec line to work on Profiles when a windows XP
system logs in. The line and script are the same as we used to use on the
"homes" share with WIndows 98 clients on samba 2. However I cannot seem to
make the preexec line trigger either on login or by explicitly mounting the
share.
Here's the bit from my smb.conf

path = /var/samba/profiles

paste data
Hello,
I need a command.
I have a lot of data in different dataframes(auto.0a, auto.0b, auto.0c, auto.5Na,...), that has similar names.
I could print the names all at once wih a loop with the command paste(), see below:

Profiles and PDC
We have severla samba servers which we've just tried to upgrade to using the
domain based security.
Most things seem to be fine but there is one problem which is causing some
trouble.
Roaming profiles are decalred on the PDC to be:
logon path = \\ufs.%G\%U\Profiles
which resolves to a folder called Profiles in the users home directory.
The server ufs.%G is not the same server as

Assertion failed
We're in a bit of a panic here as we're getting a lot of errors along
the lines of:
May 2 12:39:00 lenny dovecot: IMAP(XXXXX): file mbox-sync-rewrite.c:
line 106 (mbox_sync_headers_add_space): assertion failed: (start_pos <
data_size)
We didn't see this until our mail servers went under a full load and now
we've trashed the ability of nearly all our users to read email.

Samba 3.0.8 breaks all printing from Windows 98
We have small panic here as we've just put samba 3.0.8 up to fix the DoS
attack but all printing from Windows 98 has now broken. Printing from
Windows XP is still working fine.
We're running on Fedora 2 using LPRng. Everything was working fine under
3.0.7 and no changes to the OS or the config files was made. Samba was
upgraded to 3.0.8 using the configure line from the 3.0.7

PATCH: Performance improvement for parameterised include path names
I posted last week regarding a bug in the way that smb was re-reading
our config files every 60 seconds even though the files were not
changing.
As a result we had 396 smbd processes trying to read three files at the
same moment with the obvious load average.
The reason that all the smbd's were running at the same moment is
because the smbd's read the config files every 60 seconds

CentOS 7 debuginfo repo
Hi
I've just been looking for the debuginfo packages for CentOS 7 (I'm using
systap in an attempt to judge the performance of some new tape drives), but
upon enabling the debug repo, I just get a 404 looking for the repo's
metadata. Any clues on where I might be able to get these packages?
Thanks

Major samba load caused by re-reading of the configuration file
We're running samba-2.2.3a-6 from the redhat 7.3 distribution.
Periodically we see a massive load on our server which then quickly goes
away. I've spent some time trying to diagnose where the problem is and
it appears to be caused by every smb process on the machine (all 360 of
them) re-reading the config file at the same moment.
THe problem is I cannot see why this should happen and

how to get flac fingerprint from a wav?
Great info. I found some descriptions of st5 (md5 fp) and ffp, where
I assume that "fp" is just a Taper abbreviation for "fingerprint" -
or signature as it's called in the flac header. However, I could not
find these utilities or source code. What I found looked like
instructions for a gui-based program. I think it would be easier to
support Mac if st5 were

how to get flac fingerprint from a wav?
In windows command line:
I have a wav file and would like to see what the flac fingerprint would be.
To do this I run flac to encode the wav file and write the flac file to the
hard disk. I then run metaflac to read the flac file and display the
fingerprint.
Is there an existing way or other utility to do this without generating the
flac file on the hard disk. I would think it could be quicker

shntool (http://etree.org/shnutils/, http://shnutils.freeshell.org/)
is Windows-only, but the source is available.

how to get flac fingerprint from a wav?
Thanks for all the responses to my question.
I think I can use shntool hash option for my project
I did not find in the shntool documentation or flac documentation that the
hash or st5 always would match the flac fingerprint. But at least in a
couple tests I did they matched. And I found some more comments around the
internet indicating they were the same.
