Difference in Levene's test between R and SPSS
Hello, I notice that when I do Levene's test to test equality of variances across levels of a factor, I get different answers in R and SPSS 16. e.g.: For the chickwts data, in R, levene.test(weight, feed) gives F=0.7493, p=0.5896. SPSS 16 gives F=0.987, p=0.432 Why this difference? Which one should I believe? (I would like to believe R :) Ravi -- View this message in context:

using for loop with data frames.
Hi, Is it possible use a loop to process many data frames in the same way? For example, if I have three data frames, all with same variables df_bs_id1 <- read.csv("test1.csv",header =TRUE) df_bs_id2 <- read.csv("test2.csv",header =TRUE) df_bs_id3 <- read.csv("test3.csv",header =TRUE) How could I would implement a code loop that , for instance, would

Fill down a new column in data frame with a number
Hi, I am a begginer in R programming. I am traying to create a a column in my data frame filled down with a number. > df$newcolumn <- number How can I do it? I am considering use rep() but in this case it is necessary know the number of rows in each data base that I have and I would like to do it in a faster ( and more elegant) way. levene.test
I am trying to use Levene's test (of package car), but I do not understand quite well how to use it. '?levene.test' does not unfortunately provide any example. My data are in a data frame and correspond to 1 factor plus response. Could someone please give me an example about how to use the command levene.test(y, group) Thanks in advance, marta -- View this message in

Mauchly and Levene
Hallo! I just started working with R to do the statistical analyses for my diploma thesis. I got two sets of data. Both contain repeated measures. One has only one within-subject factor with four levels. The other has one within-subject factor with two levels and one between-factor with two levels. I want to compute a Mauchly test for both sets and a Levene test for the second set. I

ANOVA on residuals to check for equality of variances
Hi all, I know that I can run an one way ANOVA on the absolute residual values to check the assumption of equal variances: model<- lm(y~x) summary(lm(abs(model$resid~x))) What if I have two factors? As far as I know I have to check this assumption on very factor/level combination. So if I have 3 factors with three levels, I would have to test 9 factor/level combinations. Here comes my

Classic Levene Test of variances

S4 summary method not being called (VGAM)
The symptom triggering this email is that an S4 summary method sometimes refuses to be invoked, even when a package is explicitly loaded, if the first load of the package is implicit. It may or may not be specific to 'summary' methods and/or the 'VGAM' package. I've sent to R-devel because (i) it looks like some kind of bug to me, but I'm not sure; (ii) it's not

bootstrapping Levene's test
Hello all, I am low down on the learning curve of R but so far I have had little trouble using most of the packages. However, recently I have run into a wall when it comes to bootstrapping a Levene's test (from the car package) and thought you might be able to help. I have not been able to find R examples for the "boot" package where the test statistic specifically uses a

windres problem
Hello, I am trying to build an R package for Windows from an R package for Linux. There seems to be a "windres" problem somewhere. Here's what I get. C:\Temp>Rcmd build --binary VGAM > mm make[2]: windres: Command not found make[2]: *** [VGAM_res.o] Error 127 make[1]: *** [src/VGAM.dll] Error 2 make: *** [pkg-VGAM] Error 2 In more details, it goes like the following.

Incompatibility with VGAM
I just discovered that when the VGAM package (not on CRAN) is loaded, glm() doesn't work. This is because VGAM defines a family function() which gets found by glm() in place of the family function from stats. Then VGAM:::family returns an object which doesn't have a $family component, (it has a component $vfamily). I thought namespaces should protect us from this happening? Kjetil --

rzinb (VGAM) and dnbinom in optim
Dear R-help gurus (and T.Yee, the VGAM maintainer) - I've been banging my head against the keyboard for too long now, hopefully someone can pick up on the errors of my ways... I am trying to use optim to fit a zero-inflated negative binomial distribution. No matter what I try I can't get optim to recognize my initial parameters. I think the problem is that dnbinom allows either
