question on override
I want to know will builtin dll always call other builtin dll or it depends on
winecfg setting just like other dll? Is it reliable that these dll mixed
togther? For example, the builtin gdiplus depend on and call ole dll, does the
builtin gdiplus designed to work with both builtin and native ole dll? Will
there be any incompatibilities, like different memory allocator?

how to override dll
I notice that there are some proxy dll inside system32 eg. comctl32.dll, What is
the correct procedure to override it? Is that OK that just to copy my native
comctl32.dll to overwrite that dll and then run winecfg to set the override tab?
And if that proxy dll was overwritten, how to restore to use built-in version?

Native, Builtin for Dummies
Yes I know this is stupid, but I do not understand the difference between Native and Builtin, in that
Native is the original Windows dll
Builtin is the Wine version
OK, but what is in the drive_C/windows/system32 folder? are these the Builtin dlls? or are they just stubs needed to fool the programs into thinking that the dll exists?
If they are just stubs and I want to use a Native dll for just

Setting All DLLs to Builtin, then Native
Is there a terminal command that can be used in a Bash script that will reset the loading of all DLLs to "builtin, then native" and vice-versa?
I've looked at WINEDLLOVERRIDES but the instructions for it do not explain whether wildcards or some "all" like command can be used.

replacing builtin library files with native dlls
Hi,
I want to replace some of the builtin libraries of
Wine with native ones to improve performance in some
games. The wine documentation refers to a
'~/.wine/config' that doesn't exist. From what I've
gathered from this mailing list, I should simply move
the native dlls I want into the fake c drive
(.wine/drive_c/windows) and Wine will use them
instead. Is this right or am I

Who asking users to install native DirectX?
More and more poor clueless users getting to nowhere installing that stuff according to some howtos. Who are writing those? And why are they directing people to install it in the first place?
The only person I've found who created that howto everyone links to - Tom Wickline states EXPLICITLY THAT THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY!!! AND NOT TO BE USED WITH ANY REAL LIFE APPLICATION!

Confusion about Dll Overriding
the winecfg confused me about DLL overriding. In the 'libraries' tab,
if i specified a Dll file name and click 'Add', how does Wine know
where to load the native file when need? does it mean i also have to
copy the native file into the "c:\windows\system[32]" directory? if
so, why i have to bother with the winecfg, why not directlly copy
files into the

Can't load native dll
When I try to load winelib dll I get an error message:
"err:module:MODULE_LoadLibraryExA Loading of native
DLL <dllname> failed (error 193), check this file."
The error message is printed for call:
DllHandle = LoadLibrary(DllName);
This happens even when I try to load standard Wine
dlls, like dlls/msisys.ocx.so
Did I miss something obvious?
Thanks,

about overriding dlls
I am checking an old bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9637 which happens to affect several games. Before arriving to the bug in question, one has to workaround another bug relate to shdocvw.dll.
It is recommended to override a set of libraries which I believe should be put in system32. However, at least some of the dlls are already there. Are these the wine builtins or rather proxies as

Usefull dll overrides
I've been trying to get a game running that is sooo close, but just not there, and I see from the Office 2007 thread that other people are pretty much shooting in the dark about which dll overrides are useful for different things too.
I was wondering if we could gather the different overrides that work for different apps and put them in one place, maybe make it sticky? Maybe we need one

Ford Tech Serv app does not work
This just an FYI.
Yesterday I updated to top of trunk wine and rebuilt and installed.
I have a Ford Service CD (for 1999 models) and wine on the exe does not
work
(on an old Windows ME laptop it all works).
The startup.exe sort of seems to work AFAICT, but when it's done and the
app exe started
the app exe ( installed on disk) cannot seem to find
the cd (the app needs the CD, the install

Re: Bug#181699: #181699 Re: #181699 wine: vague error message: "dramatically effect" in what way?
What really matters is not whether Wine has a Windows drive and
filesystem to sit on top of, but whether or not Wine can use native
Windows DLLs instead of its builtin ones. Some DLLs in Wine are so
perfect that they can be used in Windows - no benefit will be gained
from running an app that uses these natively. Some of Wine's DLLs are
buggy or incomplete - using stock native Windows ones

Going to install .47 to replace .46.
Should I delete ~/.wine and reinstall all my apps, to make sure I catch any

native dll search order
Hi,
I know wine looks into c:\windows\system and in the current
dir '.' for native dlls.
What is the order? system dir ou current dir first?
is there another place it looks for it?
The reason is that I want to move dlls that some apps uses
(like mfc) to the applications dir and avoid dll versioning
problems.
However it would be usesless if wine checks c:\windows\system
first for it
