Using R and the Tidyverse for an economic model
Looks like you have made an impressive start and some attractive introductions. I have no significant interest in your topic (sorry), but it seems that you are re-inventing the wheel a bit in regards to much of your documentation and modularization... R packages can help you solve these problems in a cross-platform way. You might try starting with [1] and referring to [2] as needed.

How can I run package ca (correspondence analysis), which needs rgl, without X11?
I want to invoke R on a Linux Web server from Java, in order to analyse data in ways that would take too long to code, and run too slowly, in Java. In particular, to do correspondence analyses. To this end, I've installed R version 2.15.0 on my Web host's x86_64 GNU/Linux machine, and tried using package "ca" to run the "author" example of correspondence analysis

Using R and the Tidyverse for an economic model
I've been translating an economic model from Python into R, and I thought members of the list would like to see a presentation I've written about it. I've blogged this at http://www.j-paine.org/blog/2018/03/r-taxben-a-microsimulation-economic-model-in-r.html , and the presentation itself is a slideshow at http://www.j-paine.org/rtaxben/R/reveal/rtaxben.html . The slideshow is written

zpool status keeps telling "resilvered"
Hi! We have a raidz2 pool with 1 spare. Recently, one of the drives generated a lot of checksum errors, so it was automatically replaced with the spare. Since the errors stopped at some point, we figured that the drive itself was not at fault. We offlined it, zeroed it and onlined it again, started resilvering, and manually detached the spare drive. The zpool status is ONLINE and mentions

smbd keeps maxing out the cpu, must reboot server constantly [SOLVED]
So now, I suppose I should let the list know what I've done to fix this. I found two offending computers, that caused this problem. The first offending computer I found, I just assigned it a static IP and then firewalled it off from the file server. For it's purpose, it's doesn't actually need to access the file server. I then found a second computer that was suspect, and

Making plots in big scatterplot matrix large enough to see
I've got a data frame with 23 columns, and wanted to plot a scatterplot matrix of it. I called pairs( df ) where 'df' is my data frame. This did generate the matrix, but the plotting window did not expand to make the individual plots large enough to see. Each one was only about 10 pixels high and wide. I tried sending the plot to a file, with a high and wide image, by doing

How to install Tidyverse on Ubuntu 17.04? Getting gcc errors for -fstack-protector-strong and -Wdate-time
I'm running Ubuntu 17.04 and R 3.4.1. I installed the latter yesterday, so I presume it's the latest version. I want to install Tidyverse, which I've spent many happy hours with under Windows. But when I do install.packages("tidyverse") , I get errors about unrecognized command line options to gcc. These start when the install hits the colorspace and munsell packages.

Apology. PGP sig mangling.
Hi, I have to apologise: I edited a moderator comment into a message that was pgp-signed. I must say that I normally notice the PGP signature and put comments on those messages in the end, but I must have missed it this time. I''m sorry for the confusion that this must''ve caused. Roger.

What are these TCP errors telling me?
Lately, the error messages below have been showing up in the log for the past 3 days. Is something broken, or someone trying to break in or what? I'm completely clueless about this. If you could, since I'm receiving the list in digest form, cc a copy directly to me? Many thanks... Sam **Unmatched Entries** dispatch 0x8c84f40: shutting down due to TCP receive error: connection

Meetme and authentication
Hi all, I have thoroughly read the available documentation and I can't seem to find a workaround for my setup... I'm trying to create a phone conference line that users would call using a unique phone number (no matter if they are moderators or just plain users). I use Asterisk 1.2.6 The available conferences are defined as follows: conf => 1000,user pin1, moderator pin1 conf =>

What is cast telling me?
Hi, What is cast telling me when it says the following? Aggregation requires fun.aggregate: length used as default What is 'length'? I've taken a small subset of data and wondered what EnTime vs ExTime might look like. cast is kind enough to give me a table but I don't understand the values in the table. They seem to sum up ro be the same as the total dimension of the data

Metafor package: Including multiple (categorical) predictors
Dear Metafor users, I''d like to test a model with 2 continuous and 2 categorical moderators in a meta regression. One categorical parameter has 2 levels and the other has 4 levels. If I understand correctly, when I include all moderators in the model, Metafor returns main effects of the continuous parameters and contrasts of each level of categorical moderators with the intercept (which

Puzzled by what Rprof is telling me
I am using Rprof() to help find ways to improve performance. I found a function whose total seconds and self seconds were large. I replaced it with something else. The something else had a small number of total seconds and self seconds. But the total time did not decrease. I don't understand how that could be, and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks -Don Details, unfortunately
