Please keep messages on the list so others can pitch in.
_Which_ words do you want to consider identical for the purpose of frequency count?
_What_ do you want to plot?

find similar words in text
I received this from Matt Jockers and it worked!
I missed something.
How can I now see(display) this list?
Hi Riann,
There are a couple of ways that you could do this. . . the best
approach would probably be to use *grep* instead of *which*, but let me
show you both ways.
On page 30, replace
whales.v <- which(moby.word.v == *whale*)
with
whale_words <- c(*whale", *whales",

analyze binary variables in R
Hello,
know somebody a "nice" strategy to analyze a lot of binary variables with hundred to thousands of cases.
P.S.
One nice example for this and something more is the configurational approach from C.Ragin
http://www.nwu.edu/sociology/tools/qca/qca.html ,but i fight with the complexity of my data
and the speed of the contibuted software in TCL/TK and would attempt to implement

[OT] Canada on Rails by ferry?
Hey y''all,
Are any folks planning on taking the ferry from Seattle to Vancouver
(via Victoria)? I''ve never done it before so I have no idea how much
of an adventure it is. Flights are a $100+ less to Seattle than
Vancouver so the price works out the same or a bit less. My plan is
to fly to Seattle (from Savannah, GA) on Tuesday to catch the early
ferry on Wednesday

[OT] odd network question
I know this is OT, but I'm not sure where else to ask. I can hope for fogiveness! :)
My home router sends its logs to the rsyslog on my desktop system, and
from there I can learn all kinds of interesting (or disturbing) things.
I've written a really horrid shellscript (about 20 things piped together
with a temp file in the middle) to give me the count of DROP events for
specific incoming

Speex in J2ME
Does anyone know of a project to port speex to J2ME?
I have done it (a bit of a hack though) and would be interested to know of
anyone else that is working on it.

Configuration problems
Sorry, repost

Hi,
I'm trying to build a vpn between two hosts with valid IP address. One
maquerades the private network 192.168.1.0/24, the other masquerades

Configuration files and routes seem to be ok.
I'm getting the following on beta:

Reading tables using a truncated name
Dear all,
I am trying to read a bunch of csv files using read.table() that are named
"test_xxxxxx.csv" where "xxxxxx" has no particular pattern. Is there a way
of reading all the files by specifying a truncated file name e.g. "test_"
with some wild card characters, or would I have to laboriously create some
vector with the "xxxxxx" names and iterate or

No MySQL password in ps aux!
I just noticed that some CentOS 4 or 5 machine that I don't admin but
have root access to hides MySQL passwords from ps:
Console 1:

Console2:
# ps aux
root 32165 0.0 0.1 109408 2204 pts/1 Ss+ 11:19 0:00 mysql

That is really nice, is it a MySQL feature or a CentOS feature? I have
some other servers that I _do_

Sieve plugin
The Sieve plugin page of Wiki documentation
(http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Sieve?highlight=%28filter%29) says:
"It's also not a good idea to build the plugin against self-compiled
Dovecot sources, but then actually use a prebuilt binary package of
Dovecot."
Why isn't a good idea?
Ciao,

New user
Hello team!
My relative newbie status to linux is preceded only by my Samba newbie
status. To make a long story short.......The powers to be at work decided
it was time to purchase a genuine server, they had enough peer-to-peer
networking, and money was a concern and the budget was low. So I opted for
a Dell Poweredge 2300 with RH Linux 6.0 pre-installed since I had already
been using linux at

"@ERROR: auth failed on module"
Greetings list,
I've been banging my head against this for a few days now, so finally
I throw myself upon your tender mercies.
I had rsync working fine to make offsite backups via an IPSEC VPN
over an ADSL connection - until the remote raid5 server went down. It was
rebuilt
with RedHat 8 and since then I have not been able to rsync to it. Both ends
have vanilla rsync-2.5.5 installed.

Package management
Anyone care to share how they handle yum updates?
We have a script that runs yum update nightly and then emails us the
results when there are packages to be updated. Ideally I''d like a way to
keep a class in site.pp that can be uncommented to run yum update -y
after the update list is reviewed by a human.

Odd Samba/btrfs AD member server problem
openSUSE 13.2 machine with btrfs for /
Running samba-4.1.14-3.3.x86_64.
Samba is configured to have the server act as a member server in a
Windows Activedirectory domain.
wbinfo -u and getent passwd work fine. getent passwd shows local and
domain users.
However, setfacl -n -R -m u:userX:rwx /testpath fails if userX is a
domain user, but succeeds if userX is a local user. Using different
