We finally got icecast/ices streaming audio for 6 venues in Austin here
for SXSW. We are streaming wirelessly and that gave us a fit at the outset.
Anyway, the url is http://sxsw.com/music/livestreams

OT: SXSW Music Fest Live via Ices/Icecast
Michael Collins and I have worked our asses off in an attempt to broadcast
live Vorbis from the SXSW 2003 Music Festival this week. We're using a
large wifi network to pull the audio from several clubs over to the
convention center where we have an Xserve running Gentoo serving up the
Icecast streams.
Despite the lack of docs, we've had no problem with Ices and Icecast from
CVS. The

[poll] What was your primary language before you started coding in Ruby?
This is an informal poll.
If you are primarily a Ruby programmer,
- What was your primary language before you started coding in Ruby?
Else,
- What''s your current programming language of choice?
I''ll start:

Squatting
Hey Campers,
I liked Camping so much that I had to "port" it to Perl. My framework is
called Squatting (as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squatting), and you can
get it from the following places:
http://search.cpan.org/dist/Squatting/
http://github.com/beppu/squatting/tree/master
It''s not a straight port of the Camping code, because Camping uses some
weird Ruby idioms that

learning.kicks-ass.org
Hey Campers,
Here''s a tiny little app I wrote shortly after SXSW this year.
http://learning.kicks-ass.org/
Click on the big red *RANDOM* button for some mild amusement.
The idea came from Heath Row over a dinner conversation as chronicled here:

The source code is here:

Setting cookies in service overloader thingo
I''m implementing a simpler version of the Cookie Session Store in
Rails 2.0. If you know what that is, skip the next paragraph.
A cookie session store stores the session data inside cookies, on the
client, and signs them using a secret string, hashed together. The
user can decode the cookie easily if they know much about computers
and see what''s inside, but they

Minor fix for Ajax.InPlaceEditor
controls.js line 471:
Where it says:
new Effect.Highlight(element, {startcolor: this.options.highlightcolor});
can we change it to:
new Effect.Highlight(element, {startcolor:
this.options.highlightcolor, endcolor:
this.options.highlightendcolor});
.
Otherwise, it''ll use the default #FFFFFF to finish the highlight which
doesn''t look right when #FFFFFF doesn''t match

Hi
We are about to buy several Snom phones.
Does anyone have warnings or advices against these phones ?
Our finalists were Cisco, Polycom and Snom.
We will be using only the SIP protocol.

css image url''s and :img problem
Hi,
i have this controller class to serve static files. It works well for
the stylesheet file under a /static directory, locating it, but the
images referenced in the stylesheet do not appear. They are in the
same /static folder, next to the stylesheet.css file.

Camping and ruby2ruby
Hi everybody,
I would like to use ruby2ruby in a caming project, but there seems to
be an incompatibility with camping, ruby2ruby and markaby.
Unfortunately I receive strange Markaby::InvalidXhtmlErrors.
To demonstrate, that only combination of all three components causes
the problem I added the following code. I relies on Markaby and
ruby2ruby only and works fine (a.k.a. as expected).

Streaming from South by Southwest
Hi:
I read the following at
http://www.vorbis.com/ot/20040209.html#xiph-org-at-sxsw
In addition, SXSW will once again stream over 100 live performances in
Ogg Vorbis with Icecast 2 for those who can't attend the festival.
Some of the Xiph team will assist in this project where simultaneous
streams will be sent from 10 stages through 4 days of the event.
Is there anywhere I can

icecast2 transcode?
I've got a dilema. For months, I've been planning and implementing
a large project involving vorbis, ices2, icecast2 and wifi networking.
The plan is to stream live audio from 10 Austin nightclubs during
the SXSW music festival this March.
Well yesterday, it was made plain to me that I must also provide mp3
streams, since "it's an mp3 world."
I'm upset about this
