Troubleshooting a suspected ctdb performance issue
We have a three-node ctdb/samba cluster (8x Sandy Bridge cores + 64GB RAM each node) running on top of GPFS 4.1.0.8, serving 5-600 CIFS clients. We use sernet-samba-4.1.6 with ctdb 1.0.114 on Centos 6.6. Unfortunately the administrator who originally installed the ctdb/samba solution has left some time ago, and we are still learning it.
Users are reporting intermittent "latency"

a question about tdb record backup for ctdb failover
OK, thank you! I have another question:
what the current CTDB have done for transparent failover ? achieved fully or partially?
if CTDB has not achieved fully, what else we should do ?
thank you!
best wishes!

[Announce] CTDB 2.4 available for download
Changes in CTDB 2.4
===================
User-visible changes
--------------------
* A missing network interface now causes monitoring to fail and the
node to become unhealthy.
* Changed ctdb command's default control timeout from 3s to 10s.
* debug-hung-script.sh now includes the output of "ctdb scriptstatus"
to provide more information.

Recommended CTDB release for new installation
Hi folks,
We're building a new CTDB cluster - any recommendation on what version
of CTDB is the most "production" at the moment? We're currently on
1.2.66 on our currently in-service clusters.
Cheers,
Orlando

File locks are not preserved when IP is moved to another node.
Dear samba maintainers,
Recently I was testing samba and ctdb with the glusterfs. Everything works
well but I got some problems with file locking. When I exclusively lock a
file from one Windows client the second client sees that this file is in
use and doesn't allow access - this is correct. But when I move public IP
to the second node these locks are lost and it is possible to access the

Glusterfs/CTDB/Samba file locking problem
Hi guys,
I try to set up two identical installed up to date CentOS6 machines with Glusterfs/CTDB/Samba .
I have set up Glusterfs and it works. I have set up CTDB from CentOS and it seems to work too.
Samba is AD integrated and works mainly.
The main problem is that file locking seem to not work between the machines at all. If two Win7 clients try to open an document
from the same Samba server

I am seeing these errors every night in the logs. Should I be worried
about any of them? The only thing I have noticed is slow log ons.

[CTDB] how does LMASTER know where the record is stored?
Greetings list,
I was looking at the wiki "samba and clustering" and a ctdb.pdf, admittedly
both are quite old (2006 or 2007) and I don't know how things change over
years, but I just have two questions about LMASTER:
< this is from pdf >
LMASTER fixed
? LMASTER is based on record key only
? LMASTER knows where the record is stored
? new records are stored on LMASTER

Could not find node to take over public address
Hi,
we run ctdb with samba on SLES11. It was running for some month ok but
after an update of the system and ctdb it fails to run.
I tried to setup a new ctdb setup on two other nodes and it still fails
with the same error.
After startup the status is:
> ctdb status
> Number of nodes:2
> pnn:0 10.94.43.7 DISABLED
> pnn:1 10.94.43.8 DISABLED (THIS NODE)

I want to know if the lastest version of ctdb has the following mechanism:
when a record in tdb was added or upadted, if there are two same record in different nodes. In other words, if ctdb need to backup a record on other node?
if not, do we plan to add this mechanism?
thank you !

rsync-2.5.4 -- 'make install-strip' failure
Hi,
I have already sent this once, but since the problem persists here it is again.
Please consider the attached patch for inclusion in the rsync distribution.
The patch fixes the problem that 'make install-strip' tries to strip the
manpages and thus fails.
An other part of the patch adds DESTDIR (for package building). This is
nowadays part of all automake generated Makefile's,

Incremental transfer to remote broken in rsync 2.5.4
Hi, all. I note that incremental transfer (i.e. using the rsync
algorithm) doesn't work when transferring to a remote machine. I get a
speedup of 1.0. Transferring from a remote machine does achieve the
speedup that the rsync algorithm yields. Even using the
--no-whole-file switch doesn't help:
% rsync -avP --no-whole-file file remotehost:

RSYNC Error in resolving hostnames since 2.5.4
Dear Listmembers
I hope somebody can help me with the following rsync problem.
I am trying to connect (at least list the modules) to an rsync 2.4.6 server
with a 2.5.4 / 2.5.5 client.
I compiled rsync 2.5.5 on an AIX 4.3.3 and on a HP UX 11.x system and I get
the same
behaviour on both systems.
Command:
rsync oradump:: (oradump is a 2.4.6 server)
Error message:

uninterruptible sleep with rsync 2.5.4
Hi,
I've encountered a strange issue, difficult to reproduce for
now. I'm searching from where it comes.
Here are some facts:
- all programs are compiled from sources using gcc 2.95.3/glibc2.2.x
and run on a i686 LFS linux system.
- rsync doesn't run above ssl.
- using rsync 2.5.4 as server to backup mailboxes on another computer.
rsync daemon is launched from xinetd, rsync

rsync-2.5.4:backup.c possible bug
Hello,
I suspect a minor bug in the file rsync-2.5.4/backup.c line 206.
To identify too-long pathnames, it makes the following test:
if (strlen(backup_dir) + strlen(fname) > (MAXPATHLEN - 1))
I think that the constant subtracted off should be 2, to account both for
the forward-slash and for the trailing zero in the following snprintf
statement, line 211:
snprintf(keep_name, sizeof
