Inotify or equivalent
I installed inotify and incrond to watch a directory and set the job as '/mnt/dir IN_ATTRIB chmod 0660 $@/$#' which worked very well except that as expected, IN_ATTRIB is to broad of a watch class as it caused an enormous amount of contention with the filemonitor and/or db server and the client side app was less than happy. Not to mention top showed it working away like mad... Is there

Sysvol replication with Unison for more than 2 server.
Dear Louis, Just to check... Would it be possible to have more than 2 DC using Unison to sync? I was trying to make this to the samba wiki. But when reading the list I see Rowland talking about the SID and RID issue Because of built-in group SID is not sync across domain. Which I think samba should have their own way of dealing this or it will just be a mess in a long run. Did we have any

Sync sysvol
What's the current wisdom on sync of sysvol to other (samba) DC's? [I should probably search, but I don't recall seeing discussion on sysvol sync details hit the list recently.] A quick search dud turn up this wiki article - is that current best-practice? https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Rsync_based_SysVol_replication_workaround I'm running the Ubuntu 18.04 packaged Samba

Problems with security = domain/server and samba 2.0.6
Every 12. day or so domain members changes passwords in the NT domain, and after a while (5 minutes normally) the NT PDC starts to sync against the BDCs in the domain. Before this syncing is done the authentication of new connections usually fails. We have a pretty large NT domain with 40.000+ users and the syncing process can take up to one hour, causing samba authentication to fail during this

Samba Wiki change suggestion
On the "Bidirectional Rsync/Unison based SysVol replication workaround" page. The title (as you can see) includes the word UNISON when in fact the "Unison" program is NOT being used for this replication anymore. As the instructions there actually use "Osync" then the word "UNISON" should probably need to be replaced with "OSYNC". (I looked

DHCP-DNS problems
Hello there. So, I have a Samba AD setup, with DHCP and samba_dlz setup as described in the wiki. However, I find that after a while, dynamic DHCPD updates stop working. The fix is for me to restart the named server. When in this state, I get log messages like: DHCPREQUEST for 192.168.52.232 (192.168.60.2) from 8c:be:be:0d:cf:3c (RedmiNote4-Gj?gur) via 192.168.52.253 Dec 18 15:39:44 dc02

Hello Rowland, Louis and Min, sorry for late reply, I was really busy in the past days. As Min already wrote, I have made the same experience unfortunately. With Rowland's suggested settings it didn't solve the problem. I'm on another issue at the moment and didn't find time to check the rsync/unison process on my own, but I'll promise I'll dive into it as soon as I can.

samba-tool join faild. ERROR(ldb): uncaught exception - LDAP error 32 LDAP_NO_SUCH_OBJECT
Hello, I inherited an Active directory in Windows in Spanish, after a lot of work I was able to do the first synchronization to a DC in Samba. Now I am at the stage that I want to remove Windows, but previously I want to remove Windows. I am trying to add another DC in Samba to advance and I am presented with the following problem. I feel lost with these errors. root at DC01:~# samba-tool fsmo

samba-tool join faild. ERROR(ldb): uncaught exception - LDAP error 32 LDAP_NO_SUCH_OBJECT
Hi Epsilon, I think the issue here is with localization support in Samba. You "Default-First-Site" in Spanish MS-AD is translated (as it is in French AD), and it seems that it looks for the following site name during the join: CN=Default-First-Site-Name,CN=Sites,CN=Configuration,DC=conylec,DC=local while it should be trying to create the entry in the following site name:

Make new server the "master"
Thank you everyone for your help. I corrected my resolv.conf files as Peter Milesson suggested and then had to take a number of extra steps so now things are looking a little better. In case it helps anyone else in the future, here's what I found (plus I am now having problems resolving internal addresses). As far as I can see, the setup on both servers is identical (except they use their own
