Permissions Changing on BIND, Causing Samba Trouble
your permissions are set wrong. I dont know your OS, but this is what i use on debian. read this part of my script and adapt what you need for your OS. for debian user "named" = bind permdir=$(stat -c %a "/var/lib/samba/private") if [ "$permdir" = "755" ]; then echo "/var/lib/samba/private permissions are 755, which is ok."

Permissions Changing on BIND, Causing Samba Trouble
Greetings, For whatever reason, the BIND server running on our Samba AD instance changes permissions on /var/lib/samba/private/ldapi and /var/lib/samba/private to root:root, and causes all kinds of trouble. If I change the permissions back to named:root, it works fine. But after about 3 or 4 weeks it will revert back to root:root. How do I prevent this from happening in the future? Thanks.

Cached message size smaller than expected
Greetings, Can anyone help me to solve this problem? When doveadm sync is running nightly, we have a certain user's mailbox that will not properly sync and the logs give me this error (user private info redacted): Error: Mailbox USER/MAILBOX: UID=79: read(/vmail/domain.org/user/.MAILBOX/cur/1575914253.M611834P7822.triata4,S=41893,W=42718:2,Sc) failed: Cached message size smaller than

iOS Client Not Showing Email Previews, Dovecot Issue?
Greetings, Just wondering if anybody would know why one of our users' iOS Mail app client doesn't show the email previews (the first few sentences of the email)? We had migrated from an earlier (2.2.4) version of Dovecot to the latest version and once that was done, the user began to report this issue.? I don't know if it's a Dovecot issue or not, but can anyone point me in

Hi, what dovecot version is this? This looks a lot like bug that was fixed in 2.2.25.5 Sami > On 21 Jan 2020, at 17.59, Asai <asai at globalchangemusic.org> wrote: > > Greetings, > > Can anyone help me to solve this problem? > > When doveadm sync is running nightly, we have a certain user's mailbox that will not properly sync and the logs give me this error

Dsync Permissions Issue
Greetings, I recently upgraded Dovecot from 1.2 to 2.0.14, for purposes of using Dsync to migrate emails from one server to another. I'm using MySQL for authentication. However I get this error message when I try to run Dsync, and after looking around for an answer, I'm at a bit of a loss: [root at triata ~]# dsync -v -u asai at globalchangemusic.org backup ssh -p22222 vmail at

Reappearing emails
We have been running Dovecot 2.2.10 with a pair of CentOS 7 boxes with replications for the past year. We have been quite happy with the performance and reliability. Recently we received a report from an Android IMAP user that emails that he deleted without reading would often reappear in his INBOX. At first I thought it might be some quirky incompatibility with his email client, but I

Deleted files reappear after login
Hi, problem is, if someone deletes files e.g. from Desktop in XP, logs out and logs in again, the files reappear. They are not deleted in the profile on the server. The profile is syncing so that changes to files and new files are ok. Only deleting does not work. am using: Redhat EL4 U4, Samba 3.0.24-SerNet-RedHat, XP SP2 Clients. smb.conf parts: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U

Replication Advice Needed
I successfully set up Dovecot replication, having 2 servers syncing with each other. While I had both servers in the same room on a Gigabit network, they were syncing fine. But I took one to another location, and syncing was turned off for about 2 weeks. Now I've turned both back on, they're sort of syncing, but not really. The one remote server is not populating emails into

Lowering Log Levels Back to Defaults
Greetings, I'm sorry for asking what may be a really obvious question, but I'm having a hard time turning off logging, or at least getting less verbose logging. My dsync logs are about 7 MB daily, and I'm trying to get that switched off. At one point I had it on a lower level of verbosity, and I turned it up for debugging purposes, but now I cannot seem to turn it back down,

Dovecot Replication: First Run
Greetings, I'm working on building a redundant Dovecot server which will be replicated with my original. I would like to know if there's any potential problems I could run into in running this for the first time. For example, during an initial sync is it possible for the new server to sync improperly with the original and delete all of the emails on the original? Are there any

What's a Reasonable Inbox Size?
Thanks for your response, So, how do those rotation scripts work in concept? People are still able to access their old inboxes, but it just moves them to an archived state? What's a Reasonable Inbox Size?
Greetings, I have several users who have inboxes that are over 20 GB. Lately I have noticed Dovecot logs say it's taking over 30 seconds to sync their mailboxes. As email admins,? how do you handle inboxes that are so large? Do you use mailbox types that have better performance like dbox? We're using maildir. What's a reasonable inbox size?? Is 20+ GB reasonable and nothing to

Reappearing emails
The dovecot version (2.2.10) we were running had a timing window problem in the context of replication (we use maildir on CentOS 7). After doing elaborate tests to isolate the problem, we wound up upgrading to 2.2.23. That fixed it, and that version has been very reliable. >> Recently we received a report from an Android IMAP user that emails that >> he deleted without reading

Dsync Errors
Greetings, I've seen something like this in another thread, about a month ago, but we're running into this error pretty frequently when we run dsync backup. Error: Raw backtrace: /usr/lib64/dovecot/libdovecot.so.0 [0x39ccc5f1c0] -> /usr/lib64/dovecot/libdovecot.so.0(default_fatal_handler+0x35) [0x39ccc5f2a5] -> /usr/lib64/dovecot/libdovecot.so.0 [0x39ccc5ebb3] ->
