Volume changing à la MP3Gain?
Hullo,
There's a program called mp3gain which can be used to alter the volume
of an MP3 file in 1.5 dB steps. I once heard somewhere (I can't
remember *where*, but I swear) that something similar is possible with
Vorbis files, but in approximately 2.2 dB steps.
Is this true, or is my memory at fault? If it's possible to change the
volume of a Vorbis 1.0 file, could someone please

Problems with gain
Hello.
I have a problem here with replay gain. I use it to be able to hear all
my music without any difference in volume. But it seems that all players
I use ignore the gain value stored in my flac files. All flacs are
louder than the gained mp3s I have.
$ metaflac --show-tag=REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN <some>.flac
REPLAYGAIN_ALBUM_GAIN=-9.96 dB
$ metaflac --show-tag=REPLAYGAIN_TRACK_GAIN

So what exact dB value does flac use? mp3gain + 6 dB are 95 dB IIRC.
I tried to apply mp3gain -m 6 to my mp3s,

Attn Heinz Tuechler: Re: problem with special characters (ä,ö,ü)
[I tried to send this message privately, but the return address
bounced.]
I think this has been fixed in R-patched, but I doubt if the fix has
been tested in Win98. Could you please download a copy from
<http://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/rpatched.html> and confirm
that it has been fixed?

How to know if a bug was recognised
Hello!
A problem with special characters seemed to me to be a bug. I sent a mail
to R-windows at r-project.org concerning the problem (see below).
How can I find out, if this is considered as a bug or an error of myself?
Which part of FAQs or documentation did I miss to find the answer?
thanks in advance

ezstream question
Thanks Geoff, I will give it a try.
I am reencoding all files to a 128K mp3, 44100 sample rate stereo stream
for consistency.
So yes I have the decode and encode lines in the xml file as you outlined.
I will check out sox and see how it does.
I am also exploring mp3gain to run across the entire library and see if
getting all files to the same level will help.

Locale problem with umlauts in factor levels in 2.7.0 (patched) from grid or lattice
With 2.7.0 patched (not tested with 2.0.0), I get an error message in a
program that ran correctly in R 2.6.2 when the grouping factor of a
stripplot contains an Umlaut:
I am aware that there are a few locale-changes in R 2.7.0, but I could not

yum cannot find bittorent rpm at dag
I am trying to get the x86_64 isos of CentOS-5.2. I wish to use
bittorrent. The last time that I did this I required the bittorent
package from Dag's repository. I have configured
/etc/yum.repos.d/DagWieers.repo thus:
[dag]
name=Dag Wieers RPM Repository for Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Dovecot 2.3.8 - How to force index creation for user/mailbox?
Neither of dovecot.index files are created (.cache, .log, .thread) - these
files are created when I open the folder with IMAP client. When mailbox is
not used for long time, the indexing takes very long time. So I'm looking
for any solution (preferably with doveadm) to manually reindex folders in
background.

high-dimensional contingency table
Dear Friends.
I am just starting to use R. And in this occasion I want to construct a
high-dimensional contingency table, because I want to crate a mosaic plot
with the vcd package.
My table is in this format:

1 2005 R parejas 253
2 2005 N parejas 23
3 2006 R parejas 347
4 2006 N parejas 39
5 2007 R
