RH9 to centos 5 386
I am testing the likelyhood of updating a couple RH9 systems to centos 5 386. I found at document that talked about updating to centos 4. steps being: 1.) backup 2.) rpm --import http://pubmirrors.reflected.net/centos/5/os/i386/RPM-GPG-KEY-centOS-5 rpm -Uvh --nodeps http://pubmirrors.reflected.net/centos/5/os/i386/CentOS/yum-3.0.5-1.el5.centos.5.noarch.rpm

nouveau driver one centos 6
I "wish" to not load the or even install the nouveau driver by default. I want to use the NVIDIA binary driver. I have tried a number of things: 1) in my kickstart package section add the line: -xorg-x11-drv-nouveau This did not work - it was still installed. 2) use the nvidia installer and it asks to create a modprobe.conf file to blacklist the driver. I said yes thats what I want.

Lost my menu options again - KDE messes with Gnome?
This was a problem I had a while back. I lost the "Preferences" menu item in my "Applications" menu in Gnome. After much discussion, the following commands got my "Preferences" menu item back, along with all the applications inside of it: rpm -e redhat-artwork redhat-menus --nodeps --allmatches yum install redhat-artwork redhat-menus But... For some reason it

Wine and Gnome menus...
Hi all, I've spent several days tinkering with Wine and have uncovered what seems to be a mess: Menus in Gnome for Wine applications... I'm running Debian 4.0 (Etch) with a few backports, and Gnome 2.14.3. I've progressed from the version of Wine that's in the Etch repositories, 0.9.25-2.1, through the one in backports, 1.0-rc1-1, to the current 1.1.1 from the WineHQ

re-install package
I tried to install alsa 1.0.19 on centos 5.3 64 - did not work - compile errors. I need to re-install alsa-lib and alsa-util . I dont want to do rpm -e first on those packages as dependcy is crazy. I know they were installed (rpm -qa | grep alsa tells me so) I just want to re-install ? How do I do that? Thanks, Jerry

Re: Wine menus - rebuilding, deleting
Thanks for the work you did on this - I needed it to clean out some messy entries in Gnome after moving a $HOME structure to a newer Ubuntu release - the original menu's had their titles messed up in ~/.local/share/applications/ I rewrote your script to use shell constructs instead of 'find'. I've copied it here for others to play with. Code: #!/bin/sh wine="wine"

CentOS 7 remove items on screen
How can I remove the four items on screen? Applications, Places home trash from the command line? Was able to do this in CentOS 6 can't believe they

I had to update all these packages on CentOS 6 for a project. Everything works great on CentOS 6 - except - Copy/Paste between applications. Anyone - know which application below might control that function? Example I cannot have firefox running and copy and paste text into thunderbird. Both applications - actually all applications work - I just cant copy/paste. I'm thinking I did not

[BUG] No shadows on panel/menus unless shadow_radius is a multiple of 5
Greetings to everybody, After erasing any previous compiz configuration, I recently installed Compiz 0.5.0, compiling it from the official tarball and I must say the whole experience is a bit smoother without the cruft of my past experiments and (mis)configurations. I had one problem though: no shadows on gnome-panel and menus, switching back to 0.4 didn't help. Then I found this old thread

Drop-down menus won't stay open
I'm running wine-1.1.6 (and I've also tried wine.git), which has funny problem with Windows menus. I use a stock charting program (from myTrack.com) that uses two kinds of menus, popup and dropdown, and they each have different problems when run under wine. The dropdown menus won't stay open for more than one second before they close themselves. If I'm really quick I can make a

Compiled Rcmdr Plugin package (zip) has no etc/menus.txt
Dear Rcmdr users, I use R-2.9.2, Rcmdr 1.5-1 and the latest Rtools bundle (and the html help workshop) under Windows XP. I wrote a RcmdrPlugin for some important functions of Thomas Lumley's "survey" package. Problem: Package compilation works without displaying any errors. That is 1) "R CMD build ..." works fine. 2) "R CMD INSTALL --build..." generates the

Problems with menus in dvd-lab
Hi, I am having a problem with menus in DvdLab. (www.mediachance.com) The application has the xp kind of menus with white background. I don't have any other applications with menus like that, but my guess is that it would happend the same with others. The problem is that the menu opens white and only when I move the mouse over it the text appears. (I have a screenshot at
