Kernel panic, CentOS 7.1503 fully updated, with executing gkrellm.
Just a heads up, since I know gkrellm is in EPEL and not in the main
CentOS repos. However, something fairly fundamental has changed, as
prior to updating, gkrellm worked fine, but now every time I execute
gkrellm the kernel panics.
I'm going to triage on a different machine, as the panic corrupted at
least one system library used by nautilus, but rpm -Va is your friend in
these

moving-window (neighborhood) analysis
Hello all
I was wondering what would be the best way to do a moving-window
analysis of a matrix? By moving-window I mean that kind of analysis
common in GIS, where each pixel (matrix element) of the resulting map
is a function of it neighbors, and the neighborhood is a square
matrix.
I was hoping there was some function in R that could do that, where I
could define the size of the neighborhood,

eha aftreg performance
G?ran, thanks for the update, I'm just about to install it!
Just wanted to drop you a short line about performance (as you once
requested):
aftreg takes ages on my windows machine to calculate a small set of
7 observations which are not even grouped together by "id". To be a
bit more precise, it takes 2:40 mins on my Intel T9300 Core2 Duo @
2.5 GHz. Bigger samples with about 700

R on AIX?
Hi,
Last year our systems group tried to install R on an IBM
p5-570 machine (16 nodes, 256 GB shared RAM), running AIX 5.3. They
ran into all sorts of difficulties and finally gave up.
I am interested in trying again (and working with an IBM support
group if necessary), but before embarking on this odyssey I was
wondering if anyone on this list has ever successfully run
R on a similar

Simple solution for small network in a school ?
Hi,
I have to install a small network in a school in a nearby village. The
network will be Linux-only, one server and fifteen desktops. Here's the
idea.
1) Authentication should be managed centrally on the server.
2) User home directories should also be on the server.
3) Users should all have disk quotas, something like 1 GB per user.
4) Some shared directories should be read/write for

scatterplot x axis specifications
I have created a scatter plot that has come out okay but I am having trouble
with the x axis. My data consists of 4 treatments but these treatments are
days so R keeps reading them as numeric and making my x axis continuous.
Here is what I have so far:
plot(pair$MC~pair$Day, pch=c(19,24)[as.factor(Cookie)],
main='Paired t Test',
xlab='Days in Field',
ylab='Moisture

Dovecot on CentOS 7
I guess I've been lucky. My Red Hat server I built in 2003 finally gave up
the ghost yesterday. Fifteen years with almost zero problems running
7x24. Now I'm trying to build a basic server to host my e-mail using
CentOS 7, Sendmail and Dovecot. Server is running great as are Sendmail
and Dovecot but Dovecot only allows connections from the CentOS 127.0.0.1.
I can telnet localhost pop3

Terrible problem, some men in my net changed their MACs! :/
Is any way to detect changed MAC adresses?
Someone taught change MACs peoples in my network and I have problems.
E.g. Two computers working on one MAC, and one IP (static ARP and DHCP).
WinXP is screaming some message... that two computers or more have the
same IP.
How can I find out who''s changed MAC?

Composite Primary Keys
Have been looking into using rails but am finding the "Composite
Primary Keys are Bad" thing a tad disturbing (to put it mildly). I
have been working with RDBMS systems for over fifteen years and this
is the first time I have herd the idea questioned. I have cone across
using surrogate keys which mirror the composite key for performance
reasons in VERY big databases but I have never

music.ibiblio.org: bad Vorbis comments?
Hi,
having inspected one of the files found at music.ibiblio.org, I realized that the
comments are quite poor or misformatted in the files.
I'm telling you, because:
1) I think it's great to have some free music
2) I think the performers deserve to be recognized
Generally, I'd put as much as possible into the Vorbis comments. Then you could
skip creating these index.html manually:

Symlink file syncing issue
Hi!
I've been attempting to use rsync to sync a set of files between my
laptop and my desktop. I've tried using google to search the archives,
but didn't find anything that addressed this issue exactly... First of
all, here are the details of how I have things set up.

ChatGPT-4:
------ Query: ----------------------------------
Thank you. The `value` in the code example is 2874. The plot shows a large number at the center and a smaller value computed as a delta relative to the `reference` of 4800. But the large value is given as 2870, and the smaller value is given as -1930 i.e. both values are rounded. Can I control the precision of these two numbers?
