dependencies for classicupgrade of samba3 with openldap backend?
Having issues with not being able to bind with my openldap server... Do I need to install openldap client tools and get the box set up to use it first? -- Jefferson K Davis Technology and Information Systems Manager Standard School District 1200 North Chester Ave Bakersfield, CA 93308 661.392.2110 ext 120 (office) http://district.standard.k12.ca.us District Users: Click here to

migrating from samba3+openldap+autofs to samba4 AD DC?
Any suggestions as to folks who have written fairly concise how-tos'? Much of what I've found so far is pretty vague. Also if moving to AD DC model, strategies for syncing with OpenLDAP... (Not to stir up old wounds, but the idea of multiple credential sources makes me very ill) Thanks, -Jeff -- Jefferson K Davis Technology and Information Systems Manager Standard School

Samba 4.1.8 Importing automountmap ldif entries from existing OpenLDAP setup or ?
So, I have a test domain set up with rfc2307 = yes . Now I'm trying to figure out if a) my nfs automount data came over from OpenLDAP, and b) if not, how to get it into samba 4's ldap, or something else??? Do I need to rethink my approach? Mount locations are pretty consistent based on primary group/userid Needs to work on Linux. Existing entries look like this... # /u,

Joining Samba4 Member to Samba3 Domain
Before I start beating my head against the wall, is there a howto someplace for joining a Samba4 member or BDC to a samba3 domain? Am I going about this all wrong? I most likely will update the PDC to samba 4 next summer due to the amount of automation we have to modify that leverages OpenLDAP. The LDAP server that comes with Samba4 seems kinda limited by comparison. In the meantime, cannot

Recommended howto/guide for installing samba4 on ubuntu 12.04?
Most of what I've found involves installing from source, which I'm not opposed to for a pilot install but for production I would rather use the distro packages or sernet. Or is this nuts/shortighted/ignorant? At any rate, I'm looking for a good guide for getting it set up as an AD controller, and then migrating my existing samba3+openLDAP+autofs setup to the new platform. Having

Best-practices - BIND9_FLATFILE/BIND9_DLZ or SAMBA_INTERNAL?
I keep seeing different approaches/recommendations as to which DNS services to utilize for an AD controller... what are your recommendations, and why? Are folder redirection and offline files mutually exclusive?
Been tearing my hair out trying to find out if redirecting my user's automounted home folder is killing offline files availability. We are just now migrating our windows users to win7 (school, limited funding), and while I've got folder redirection working, I also need to make sure offline files work as well for my mobile users. What smb.conf settings are required that will fix this

DNS issues (my ignorance?) beating me like a rented mule.
So, I managed to get an ad controller running, but cannot seem to get it to forward dns queries to my DNS server. It resolves it's own SRV records just fine. upstream bind is 9.2 AD controller is the same DNS domain as the rest of my network (could this be the issue?) using SAMBA_INTERNAL on the AD controller. It's like I can either resolve my AD controllers SRV records or the

Ok, I've tried all the "common" fixes, such as turning oplocks off on the share. Twice a day the database has to be repaired. running samba-3.0.7-2.FC2 Here's the pertinent section: comment = Aeries path = /home/aeries valid users = @aeries read only = No create mask = 0770 directory mask = 0770 inherit permissions = Yes

Group Policies in Samba 3
Ok, I'm going kinda nuts... I have a samba 3 + openldap domain, which works great for authentication, etc. I am trying to use the NTConfig.POL to enforce policies on a mix of 98/win2k and XP boxes. This is a K12 environment, so I need very restrictive policies for students, less so for teachers and staff. What seems to be happening, at least with the XP clients is that it gets the

Batch user creation scripts or tools?
Hi, I'm trying to avoid re-inventing the wheel here if I can. I'm looking for a script or set of scripts that allow me to create a bunch of samba 3.X/posix users and their corresponding LDAP entries from a delimited text file or something similar. If it's web-based, so much the better, esp if some of the functions can be delegated (with reduced permissions) for specified groups

Need to mass update pasword expiration - which ldap attributes?
Hi, I need to mass-update my users in openldap so that their passwords don't expire (school teachers). Anyone have any ideas about what the best process would be for accomplishing this? PDC Administrative scripting
Hello: It's been quite some time since I've posted to the samba lists. I'm wondering if there are any other Samba administrators out there that have developed shell and/or PERL scripting for managing user profile (roaming) directories. Essentially what we're trying to accomplish is automated cookie cleanup "illegal file" (i.e., mp3, wav, avi, etc.) file clean up

Invalid data for index DN=@INDEX:OBJECTCLASS:DNSNODE
We have a Samba primary domain controller "empire", which seems to have DNS update issues. We can seem to query all records on empire just fine, and we can modify IPs for existing records, but it will not delete or add new records. Attempting to delete via the AD tools shows "Local security authority database contains an internal inconsistency". Adding a record on the command

Phantom DNS records visible with dig, but not samba-tool dns
We appear to have some phantom DNS records on both our domain controllers. We can see the records using "dig", but not with samba-tool. We can't remove the records either. (v-ward and v-fief are the DCs, Hawaii and Alaska are old DCs which were demoted without errors, I'm trying to clean up some DNS records which don't seem to have been cleaned). All machines are

error during DRS repl ADD: No rDN found in replPropertyMetaData
An awful response: change tombstoneLifetime : ) When deleting objects they go to recycle bin then to deleted objects then are deleted. This if you have some recycle bin working which is not the case by default I reckon. tombstoneLifetime is the number of days AD has to keep deleted objects before the real deletion. If you use the recycle bin this very same tombstoneLifetime is also used to
