lots of outdated docs
Hi, The web page https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/ must be from the last millenium, it offers a "tarball of the daily docs build" of version 3.3 The manpage for vfs_recycle is even worse, it says: "This man page is correct for version 3.0.25 of the Samba suite." Is there a chance that we can get man pages which describe all options of samba 4.2? Specifically I was looking

Recycle with path outside the share
Hi, what do I have to do, to define a recycle folder outside a share e.g. the users home for each share? As far as I understand the default values, it's not allowed to leave the share folder. recycle:repository = /home/user/.recycle -- Viele Gr??e Andreas Hauffe

vfs objects recycle can not exclude profile directory
hello, everyone. I'm have a file server using samba 4.7.1 and it is a domain member. It seems that the exclue rule do not take

unix_primary_group=yes together with vfs objects=acl_xattr not working
Hello all, we want to change the configuration of our Samba domain member file servers to use unix_primary_group=yes After some experiments I was able to get it to work, but only with vfs objects = acl_xattr commented out. With acl_xattr enabled the primary group is still displayed correctly in the output of smbstatus, but new files are not created with with this primary group. The

AD Member Server and 'vfs objects recycle' permission problems
Hi, on our samba 4 domain member server we use the vfs objects module 'recycle'. Unfortunately we ran into a strange permission problem with deleted folders. The newly created folders in the recycle folder have the wrong permission. The deleted file(s) itself has the correct group (rw) permissions. The shares correct permissions: getfacl Papierkorb/ # file: Papierkorb/ # owner: root #

Effect of setting "store dos attributes = no" in Samba 4.1.11
Thanks for your help and replies. Yes, I meant "store dos attributes". It's pretty clear now that I need to keep the parameter 'store dos attributes=no' since 1) the server is an AD member server and 2) the map* parameters don't do the right thing under ZFS / NFSV4 ACLs. I've read that the steps Klaus Hartnegg listed resolves the issue on ZFS on Linux; however, I

access rights for unix groups unreliable
Hello, Please help me with this. Access rights granted with acl to unix groups work only on about 2 out of 10 logins, otherwise I get access denied. Directories with rights granted to everybody are always accessible. Rights were granted from within Windows 7 to a unix-group named "g_all". Samba is 4.1.6 of Ubuntu 14.04 Output of testparm: rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to

Wiki should have Readme First
Many first time users of Samba-4 seem to struggle with the same issues. I suggest the Wiki should have a Readme First similar like this: http://www.klaus-hartnegg.de/gpo/14-03-12-samba4.html It basicly says that Samba 4 can behave either like Samba 3, or as AD-DC, in which case it should do nothing else. Then it lists the main differences, limitations, and requirements. I would love to see a

Samba 3.4.6 - problems with vfs objects = recycle
Hi, I just upgraded samba from 3.0.37 to 3.4.6 on a gentoo machine. After converting the passwd file (pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam) I tried to login from a windows client but it didn''t work. After commenting the vfs-recycle entries in the shares definition I could successfully login. I cannot find any hint that the vfs objects in samba 3.4 has changed. Can somebody help? Thanks in

permission problem with vfs object recycle:directory_mode
Well, Despite I've recently answered about vfs object recycle on this list, it seems that it isn't working as excepted. Using Samba 4.4.5, compiled from sources Here is the conf for a share: [musique] path = /media/data/musique read only = No vfs objects = acl_xattr recycle recycle:directory_mode = 0770 recycle:subdir_mode = 0700

SAMBA AD VFS:Recycle bad permissions
I had similiar issue on samba 4.8 domain member (new files with wrong permissions), when I realised that You need to list all modules that You wish to use in "vfs objects" every time , there is no inheritance from global -> shares that is if You have e.g. [global] ... vfs object = acl_xattr .. [some share] ... vfs object = recycle .. On samba DC "acl_xattr" is

chown destroys ACLs
Hi, Is it normal that "chown $user $file" and "chown :$group $file" destroy the Windows-ACLs? Is it normal that changing the file owner in Windows does not change the file owner in Linux, but changing the file owner in Linux does change the file owner in Windows? This should be mentioned in >

VFS Objects Recycle questions
I have a need to setup the recycle vfs object on our server. On my test server, I have all of the shares on a single drive and have put the following into each share: vfs_objects = recycle recycle:repository = [Actual Path and Partition that the share is located] recycle:directory_mode = 770 recycle:keeptree = Yes recycle:touch_mtime = Yes recycle:versions = Yes It works like a charm.
