best way to use emphasis within code?
I want to use fixed font like a code block but also use italics and bold
at same time.
For example in HTML:
<tt>$ <b>mail -u <i>user</i></b></tt>
What is the best way to do this in markdown, especially if I have several
lines of content that needs to be spaced out correctly?
Thanks

R error- "more columns than column names"
Hi all! I am desperately trying to figure out the solution to this error, but
nothing as of yet is working.
As noted in an earlier post I am using GenABEL. In an attempt to read in
the phenotype file, in the format .dat, R keeps giving me the error "more
columns than column names"
I have tried to read in the data without the headers; I have also tried to
trim the data to remove any

Mtext doesn't display characters in italic when I use a greek symbol
Following on from my previous mail!
plot(1:10,1:10)
mtext("title", side=3, adj=0, font=3, cex=1.5)
This works as expected and puts the font in italics.
tag <- "A)"
suffix <- "genea::"
plot(1:10,1:10)
mtext(bquote(.(tag) ~ Delta * .(suffix)), side=3, adj=0, font=3,
cex=1.5)
Here, the font isn't in italics, it's normal.
I presume this is some

underscore and italic policy
Hi All,
So I just joined the list - first off, Markdown is a great format and
we're using it in our online community project disCourse:
http://discourse.ics.hawaii.edu
We're using markdown for our wiki pages, stories, message postings,
pretty much everywhere.
One markdown policy that doesn't seem to fit intuitively for our users
is the fact that embedded underscores leads to

rails equivalent to symfony admin generator?
I''m an experienced PHP programmer (don''t know Ruby yet), and I''m playing
around with Symfony (PHP MVC framework similar to Rails) and I found
myself asking if there''s really any reason to use it over Rails.
From what I''ve seen just about every feature in Rails is superior except
one very important thing - Symfony''s admin generator. This is

Wine 1.0 release date to clash with Firefox 3
According to http://wiki.winehq.org/WineReleasePlan the new release date for Wine 1.0 is set to June 17.
However the Firefox 3.0 release date is also set to June 17.

Their release is planned to be high profile and they even plan to set a Guinness world record for downloads in a single day!

oggdropXPd.exe crashes when resampling is activated
I need to encode a WAV to OGG but must resample to 22050 samples per second,
but can't do that with oggdropXPd.exe. The application always crashes.
What I do is:
Start oggdropXPd.exe. Right-click on fish, choosing 'Encoding Options'.
Under Advanced Options, I set Re-sample to 22050 samples per second. Click
'Accept'. Drag WAV on fish. In the directory where the WAV originates,

Upgrading from 1.2.8 to 2.0.6: INBOX not selectable in Thubderbird (greyed and italic)
I recently upgraded from 1.2.8 to 2.0.6, I am using Maildir, and
Thunderbird is showing the INBOX grayed out and in italics, and does not
show new messages in it (it shows messages previously downloaded). This
occurs when Thunderbird is restarted (if I upgrade dovecot, TB keeps
working fine until I shut it down, and at next startup it greys out the
inbox). All the subfolders of INBOX work

Redcloth is ..
I've been looking at Dean Allen's Redcloth, which claims to incorporate
both Markdown and Textile, as implemented in Ruby by _why.
While the code is clear and readable, the boundary between markdown and
Textile is not.
The documentation says
# By default, Redcloth uses both Textile and Markdown formatting, with
# Textile formatting taking precedence. If you want to turn off Markdown

acts_as_ferret with has_many :through relationships?
I am currently using acts_as_ferret to search on a Posts table (title
and content fields). These posts also have tags (with has_many :tags,
:through => :questions_tags). I can''t figure out how to get
acts_as_ferret to work with that relationship and allow searching of
title, content, And tags at the same time (with the ability to set
boost as well). Can this be done?

Odd behavior in an exclude-file
I decided the most secure way to deal with backup/firewall issues between my
work and home was to encrypt a portable hard drive and make it my backup.
Lug it back and forth and sync as appropriate. So I wrote myself a little
rsync script which grabs all the files I think of as taking work to recreate.
Which is given as follows:
rsync -avl --stats --progress --timeout=300 --exclude-from

"too many arguments" error
Hi all!
I keep getting the "too many arguments" error when I insert the xaxt="n",
axis(1, at=seq (0, 183, 365, 549, 732, 915, 1095)) statement in the code
below for a survival plot.
How can I go around this issue? Is there another way for me to change the
x-axis?
Also, I would prefer the y-axis to be represented by percentages (10, 20,
30..) rather than decimals (.10,

Star Wars Empire at War opens blank text box instead of game
After installation of Star Wars Empire at War and it's Expansion with the latest version of Wine, the game will not start up. I click on the icon and a blank text box shows up instead of the start of the game.
I have the latest versions of Wine, Ubuntu and I just got winetricks.
I have tried changing the Library with all of the items there.
I have tried adding the .exe to Applications,

Rails Test Notifications w/ Growl Plugin
Hi all -
I''ve just posted a quick plugin that adds notification of test
failures via the Growl framework (http://growl.info) for OS X users.
Its a great way to keep up with your test suite, especially when
coupled with autotest. And if you''re anything like me, you probably
already have Growl rocking.
Anyway, see my blog for details on installing the plugin:

lattice: Set x-axis in italics only
Dear list, I making some box-and-whisker plots in R with vertebrate
data. The x axis are species names that must be in italics. I tried
with the "axis" function but no luck, and it seems that affects both
axes.
Any tip?
Thanks a lot in Advance.

Full_Name: Yan Wong

Submission from: (NULL) (78.149.167.246)
When printing a plot to and svg file, text intended to be in italics is rendered
in bold (svg file viewed using both Safari 3.2.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.9.
For example, try viewing the test.svg file generated by
svg("test.svg", width=4,4,8)
