comparing AIC values of models with transformed, untransformed, and weighted variables
Hi there, I have a question regarding model comparisons that seems
simple enough but to which I cannot find an answer. I am interested in
developing a predictive model relating some measure of a tree's stem to
the total leaf area (TLA) of the tree. Predictor variables might
include, for example, the total cross-sectional area of the tree
(commonly referred to as basal area) or the amount

Timezone abbreviation question
Is it possible to get timezone abbreviations using the TimeZone or
TzinfoTimezone classes? Even after converting UTC to localtime it still
reports the timezone abbreviation as UTC.
Example:
>> @tz = TzinfoTimezone.us_zones[2]
=> #<TzinfoTimezone:0x30868a0 @utc_offset=-28800, @name="Pacific Time
(US & Canada)">
>> @tz.now
=> Wed Jan 24 12:36:56 UTC 2007

Re: STATs tools?
I just wanted to point out that it's "stats", not "STATs".
"Stats" is not an acronym! It's an abbreviation; it's short for
"statistics".

How to change letters after space into capital letters
What is the easiest way to change within vector of strings
each letter after a space into a capital letter?
E.g.:
c( "this is an element of the vector of strings", "second element" )
becomes:
c( "This Is An Element Of The Vector Of Strings", "Second Element" )
My reason to try to do this is to get more readable abbreviations.
(A suggestion would be to

Intermittent permission denied when accessing share
I never said the team does recommend it, still I don't see the purpose of saying "it's possible" when can be "fraught with problems". Maybe the wiki [1] should be more explicit on this, despite discouraging and suggesting better options it doesn't say it's highly problematic, it's still offered as an option.

samab-4.10 nsupdate
I changed the entries in smb4.conf (smb.conf) to this:
[global]
. . .
dns update command = /usr/local/sbin/samba_dnsupdate
nsupdate command = /usr/local/bin/samba-nsupdate -d -g
And this is what results when I run: samba_dnsupdate --verbose -d8 --all-names
. . .

Why does freebsd put these things in /usr/local/etc/? Some questions have
answers that are not worth the effort to know.

I did catch that error earlier. But it makes no difference. samba_dnsupdate
