question on Wine using multiple CPUs
An app I run has a feature to allow the user to choose how many CPU's to use to run an optimisation procedure. My system has 8 cores. It can dual boot to Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 64bits. Running the app under Windows 7 and choosing 8 CPU's for optimisation, the speed is greatly improved over using just 1 CPU. But when I use Wine (1.3.23) on Ubuntu and choose 8 CPU's, it seems

asterisk and multiple cpus/cores
I have found a site that list the following (no date in the post, so
it may be old):
"since all transcoding and calls still go through one core in asterisk,
it doesn't make sense to buy a multi-core or hyperthreaded system that
will only slow you down"
Does that still applies in asterisk 1.2.14/1.4.x ?
Or do we have to tweak source code to balance loads (transcoding, etc)

maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4?
The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/
suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is
that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4?
I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets.
IWILL for one.

Question: How to utilize multi-core CPUs
I've installed CentOS 6.3 on a quad-four box. The model only indicated
dual core but CentOS is telling me there are four. This is the first
multi-core Linux installation I've had. What is the best way to utilize
the multi-core CPUs? I'd like to distribute the load but I'm unsure how
to do that.

Scaling Asterisk: Dual-Core CPUs not yielding gains at high call volumes
List users,
Using Asterisk in an inbound call center environment has led us to
pushing the limits of vertical scaling. In order to treat each caller
fairly and to utilize our agents as efficiently as possible, it is
desirable to configure each client as a single queue. As far as I know,
Asterisk's queues cannot be distributed across servers, so the size of
the largest queue we service

I've been running tincd on several machines without a problem.
I'm now setting up a new intel-type dual-processor machine, with a custom

Multiple Tinc Vpns Crash
I use 3 Ubuntu server 14.04 as KVM guest.
Now I run 5 tinc vpns in switch mode.
I use the same key for every vpn.
Every kvm has connect to the two other servers.
I need 5 vpns to have 5 networks connected but seperated.
1 vpn was running fine, but now that I run 5 vpns, my kvm crashes sometimes. Especially when I stop tinc.
I used tinc 1.0.26 from repo.
Now I tried tinc 1.1 pre, same problem but

Sieve - multiple cores/CPUs
Hi All,
I have a quick question about the Sieve in Dovecot. I know that this is a
plugin so probably it depends on the Dovecot itself but:
is it able to use multiple cores/CPUs when doing the filtering? does the
filtering for each mail user run on a separate core?
Thanks,

Tinc support load-balance of one node to the other two?
Let’s say, tinc A node server LAN-1(single internet circuit), tinc B node and tinc C node are both serve LAN-2.(two internet circuits)
Normally, we can only set tinc A to connect to either B or C, and then the other set as backup.
But in some circumstances, we would like to combine the internet pipe of both two circuits, so that the tunnel traffic can have a better bandwidth.
If that’s the

tinc 1.1pre19 slower than tinc 1.0, experimentalProtocol even more
Hi there,
we're using tinc to mesh together hosts in a public datacenter (instead of
using a private VLAN, sort of). So all hosts are reasonably modern;
connections are low latency with an available bandwith of around 500Mbit/s
or 1Gbit/s (depending on how close they are to each other). Iperf between
two nodes directly reports around 940Mbit/s. The CPUs are Intel(R) Core(TM)

Tinc support load-balance of one node to the other two?
Hi,
You mean use the vpn link as active active?
What service run for the vpn?
If pure tcp load balance, iptables can do these needs.
If http service you can use L7 load balancer

Problem With Android Configuration
If you are running Lollipop / Android 5.x on your Nexus 5, then you are
probably seeing the same issue I was with it. lollipop seems to change
networking quite a bit in that it's using iptables / and `ip rule list`
extensively for per-user settings.
I think
http://www.linux.org/threads/debugging-nat-prerouting-issues-iptables.7136/
is relevant if you see running in to the same issue, it's

Problem With Android Configuration
I think it's more of a routing issue than anything explicitly blocking it,
they use a new 'ip rule list' and per user settings that aren't well
documented yet either, but where exactly to point I don't know. I haven't
messed with android 5 much yet, it seems not ready enough yet for daily
use, there isn't a single snapshot in the cyanogenmod repos, for example.
So maybe

VPN Single Daemon For LAN/WAN
Guus:
Ok, I accept your challenge.
But I am clueless in terms of getting the routing table correct.
So each server has a dual identity, both a LAN private identity with a
PRIVATE IP address and a WAN public identify with a PUBLIC ip address.
And how to have 2 different tun devices show up in the ifconfig -a so
that LAN IP address can be assigned to the tun0 and a WAN IP address can
be assigned

Single vs. dual CPUs
I've posted this earlier and have not heard much so far. I'd really appreciate any guidance on this as we are about to order new hardware.
We are buying Dell workstations with Red Hat Linux and 64-bit Xeon CPUs to run R. We could add a second processor to each system, or buy slightly faster single CPU systems. Is it possible to make a generalized statement as to what kind of performance
