depmod madness
Hello, What can I do when attempting to run depmod with these options: -Ae -b base -F System.map to prevent depmod from appending the following path: lib/modules/2.6.18-53.1.14.el5/modules.dep.temp to the specified base? Please help, updated to 4.8 serious issues
Greetings, After I updated my FreeBSD box from 4.7 to 4.8 I "lost" my users, but heck with users, what I mean by lost is that I can't login, when I try to login as the root or a regular user it says: pam_authanticate: permission denied so, I went ahead and re-updated my box from the very beginning, including unnecessary at this point cvsup. I used this command: make buildworld

FreeBSD 10 Beta 2: make installkernel failure with installer provided ZFS configuration.
Hi, I was trying to rebuild world on a FreeBSD 10 test system, that I had just installed. ZFS root was setup. I let the installation program do all the ZFS setup and configuration. I put root on a 5 disk encrypted raidz array. Besides the installer configuring 5 times the amount of swap space I asked for (asked for 8gb, installer put 8gb on each drive, for 40gb in total.) everything was working

hosts allow/deny not working correctly in 2.0.3 or 2.0.4b
I am having difficult getting the hosts allow/deny to work with IP ranges or netmasks. Ideally I would prefer to use the IP/Netmask method, e.g. 111.22.33.0/255.255.255.0, because we have a flat ATM network with multiple class C's (netmask is really 255.255.252.0). This, however, doesn't work!! I can't do 111.22.33. either... I can't even do specific IP's, e.g. 111.22.33.44

Interface binding ignores my settings in 2.0.6
I have a multi-homed server with interfaces into two VLANs (one Unix and one NT). I need for all Samba traffic to go through the NT VLAN interface (which is not the primary, of course). Under 2.0.5a I was able to do this with the "Interfaces" option by specifying the NT interace first (I did not do the "Bind Interface Only"). However, 2.0.6 seems to ignore this setting which

Rsync from Windows to Linux
I have installed rsync on my Windows and Linux PCs. I would like to use it to copy a folder from Windows to Linux on a regular basis as part of my backup regime. It works but always prompts me for a password. Is there any way to make Windows pass authentication automatically so that I can batch this process? SSL and certificate authorities.
Hi all. Usually for in-house use and SSL I would just generate a self-signed certificate because most clients either ignore it or only ask the first time the account is configured. In terms of offering the service to our customers is there any value of getting someone like thawte or instantssl to sign a certificate for imaps/pop3s/smtp? Also, is there a configuration directive for dovecot

'merge' function creating duplicate columns names in the output
The "merge" command is creating duplicate column names in a dataframe that is the result of the merge. The following is the 'merge' command: x <- merge(invType , allocSlots , by.x = 'index' , by.y = 'indx' , all.x = TRUE ) The 'invType' dataframe was the result of a previous merge and has the following column names that are

FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.
I sent this to freebsd-questions earlier via the newsgroup, but I just found out today that the list-to-news gateway has been down for half a month now. Any idea when it's going back up? Who was hosting that service anyway? And now for the question.. I have a test server that is being used to test a 4.4-REL to 4.8-STABLE upgrade, and I've found the system will no longer boot unless I

quantile function -> I need only the quantile value itself
Hi, I am using the quantile function currently and I have just bumped into a little problem. I have a very small data frame something like this: small_df <- c(7,3,4,7,1,10,12,1,12,4,4,8,6,11,9,10,4,13,3,9,6,5,2,10,7,14,2,7,10,10,7,8,2,11,3,10,11,3,11,14,12,7,6,11) small_df Now in the next step I would like to calculate the quantile value of the previous data frame at the probability of 95%

deleting the first two characters in each row of a factorized column
Hello, I'd like to ask you something again. I have a database and it has a column which looks like this one here: small_factor <- factor(c("d_variable1","d_variable2","d_variable3")) small_factor Now the thing is that I would like to convert each element of this factorized column. Basically I want to rewrite the words in it without the first two characters:
