Which phones are good, or at least acceptable, for home and office
I am looking to replace all of the old "Bell" (POTS) phones in my home
and office with IP phones. As you can imagine I don't have a huge
budget to work with but I want phones that will provide acceptable voice
quality and durability.
There are basically three categories as I see it
1. satellite phones (low cost, low function)
2. primary domestic phone (good quality, POE capable,

Setting Caller-ID / Point Codes
Greetings folks,
I'm currently dealing with a company to let me set Caller-ID-Name on
outbound calls. So far pretty happy with their services. The basic service
works like this:
* CLEC sets Point Code to point to this company
* CLEC has to sign LOA saying they give me permission to set the
Caller-ID-Name through this company.
* I go into web interface and set name.
However, the CLEC is

7 points of comparison Polycom 430/501 and Aastra 480i. Which one to choose ?
I need to provide a 80 people office with VOIP.
I want to commit to one vendor Polycom or Aastra. Price of the phones
is not a factor in the decision. The quality of the phones is the
factor.
Some of the features that I am evaluating on are: (arranged in order
of priority)
1. Sound quality
2. complete product line with conference phone and receptionist phone
(not on Aastra)
3. cordless (not on

SIP - Problem with audio clipping
Using a SIP connection with a CLEC, the downstream (received) audio is
perfect when the mute button is activated on the phone. However, when
there is upstream audio (i.e., talking or even breathing into the
microphone), the downstream audio is cut off. It's kinda like having a
half-duplex audio connection.
When I divert outgoing calls to another provider, these calls are fine.

Polycom Power
I have a 501 with traditional power and a 301 with PoE. I rightfully assumed
that the traditional power from the 501 would work on the 301.
How do I get the PoE to work? Do I use the Polycom PoE cable in addition to
whatever PoE injection method I use? I have a Cisco PoE injector that works
on my Cisco AP350 and my 7960. No combination of this injector, the Polycom
cable, and the phone result in

Zaptel DACS and FDL
I have the following configuration:
CLEC -> T-1 -> Asterisk -> Adtran Channel Bank -> (analog) -> Nortel
Don't complain that it's ugly. I've already done plenty of that.
The CLEC manages their Adtran remotely and needs to be able to
continue to do so. I assume they use FDL to do the management. We
are using the Zaptel DACS/DACSRBS to cross connect some of the

Problem with this is client needs to listen to the call recordings and my interface will only display .wav or .mp3 so they will moan if they have to wait until the next day for today's recordings

Good phone near $125
I was looking at the aastra 9133i, however I was informed that this phone is
no longer supported. What are good phones around the $100 - $125 price
point? (Need POE)
Thanks,

Netgear FS116P and Cisco 79XX phones
I am hoping that someone has had better luck with this than I have.
I would like to connect Cisco 7940s and 7960s to the Netgear FS116P, and
take advantage of its POE. I know that the Cisco phones use Cisco's
"pre-standard" POE implementation, but as I understand it the difference is
really only two pins.
I bought a bunch of PowerDsine inline power adapters which supposedly change

cisco poe
I know this is on the wiki, I just want to confirm so I don't blow up my
cisco phones. I've got several cisco 7940's all running using cisco
power cubes. However, my boss wants me to switch just a few over to
poe, but doesn't want to fork out the dough for a nice cisco poe switch,
or anybody else's poe switch for that matter.
So my question is, what is the '99.999%

Power Over Ethernet for *any* ethernet switch (or hub); product idea
Based on several threads I've read on this list, I assume that it would be
handy to supply POE (power over ethernet) in an environment without having
to purchase POE switches (assumed expensive) and abandon one's existing
(familiar/custom/not-yet-expensed/etc.) switches/hubs.
Assume I have a non-POE switch with 24 RJ-45 (ethernet) ports. I design a
1U box that can be mounted just

VoIP PoE phones for restaurant
Greetings,
I mailed the list regarding an intercom system some months ago and we
came to the conclusion that I should purchase a Polycom 501 phone.
I'm now considering the purchase for this year, and I'm now wondering
between the Polycom 501 and the 320 for the intercom.
I don't need the spare ethernet on the phone because I would like to
have my voice network separate from my

POE
Hey guys,
I was wondering what POE solutions are being used ? Ive done some
searching on google and found that PowerDsine seems to be good brand.
Any comments, suggestions, and experiences on POE hubs other POE products
would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Slightly OT: SNOM & PoE
Hello All,
I apologize for the slightly off-topic question, but I'm sure that the
people best acquainted with the issue would be hanging around here.
We recently deployed several Linksys POE switches for some smaller customers
(10-24 station) and appear to be suffering from intermittent lock-ups of the
SNOM phones attached.
Obviously we are running Asterisk for the gateway, but I was

Polycom 430 , 501 and 550
Hi List;
Can someone advise me if Polycom support H323 that
work fine with Asterisk? And wether this H323 Polcyom
devices more costly than SIP Polycom.
Also, I am not able to know if new Polycom come with
PoE adaptor so no need for PoE Switch (can use normal
switch that does not support PoE)? Do I need any
special cable for Polycom or normal Ethernet cable?

D-LINK PoE switch, does it work with cisco or do I need to do the cable trick?
As an alternative to the "expensive" PoE switches out there, I found the
D-Link Web Smart DES-1316 switch for just around $400. Now, the issue
is, it does 802.3af power and, as I've found out through previous
discussions, this original 76?0 series phones (the non G variety) do not
use 802.3af. So I'm assuming I just need to use the special cable thing

Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to
include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE
injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around
$2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a
boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more
then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total

PoE module
Hello;
We have a cisco switches but they are not PoE and we need only to have PoE device so the cables come for it first to provide the power and then goes to the switch (to be like batch panel), is there something like this that can be used for the IP Phones?
