measuring iops on linux - numbers make sense?
Hello, When approaching hosting providers for services, the first question many of them asked us was about the amount of IOPS the disk system should support. While we stress-tested our service, we recorded between 4000 and 6000 "merged io operations per second" as seen in "iostat -x" and collectd (varies between the different components of the system, we have a few such

RFC: grouped (f)sync
Hello, Currently Dovecot (and any other application, which cares about e-mail delivery) does at least one fsync per mail delivery. Given that hard disk drives have a very limited IOPS, this effectively limits the maximum mail delivery performance to a very low value, under utilizing the available storage IO capacity. Calculating with an average mail size of 50 kB and an average consumer HDD

Measuring ZFS performance - IOPS and throughput
Can anybody tell me how to measure the raw performance of a new system I''m putting together? I''d like to know what it''s capable of in terms of IOPS and raw throughput to the disks. I''ve seen Richard''s raidoptimiser program, but I''ve only seen results for random read iops performance, and I''m particularly interested in write

Storage IOPs Calculation for Qmail Server
Dear DovecotORG, In my organization, we are about to implement Qmail Server. * The number of current users will be 800, in future it may increase upto 1200. * The number of concurrent users will be 300. I am the engineer to deploy the Qmail in Linux server. I need to tell the storage team on the IOPs requirement. I requested 8TB usable space for the mail storage (can

AWS/EC2 server selection
Hi Jeff Are you aware of any challenges of hosting it on AWS? It will help me to work out alternate plan. Is there any recommendation? Should I split it to multiple instances and balance traffic across multiple small server instances? I can use Kamailio to balance traffic. I see many posts referring to AWS deployment. Please help me to choose AWS server instance. *Thanks & Regards,*

AsyncAGI - How to jump in dial plan when no action initiated on channel or AMI user is disconnected
It means, AMI application is no more running or crashed or lost network connection with asterisk server. In such cases call is neither answered nor disconnected by Asterisk. I want to detect such state and jump to next dial plan to answer or reject the calls Regards Amit Patkar On September 20, 2016 8:07:23 PM GMT+05:30, Matthew Jordan <mjordan at digium.com> wrote: >On Sat, Sep 17,

AsyncAGI - How to jump in dial plan when no action initiated on channel or AMI user is disconnected
Hi Is there any way to detect inactivity on channel when AsyncAGI is used? I want to detect whether application handling calls using AMI & AGI has stopped responding. Alternatively, how can dialplan check if there is any AMI user connected and decide dial plan execution? Thanks & Regards, Amit Patkar -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

AWS/EC2 server selection
Hi I plan to host Asterisk instances on AWS/EC2 servers. Requirement is to run asterisk instance with transcoding (g.729 + g.711) and full recording. Number of concurrent calls expected are 500+. 2 instances will be configured for 100% redundancy. Heart beat will be used to determine active instance. How should I choose EC2 instance? How many vCPU, RAM should be selected? I am assuming that

softphone instead of desktop phones
Thirdlane Connect can be used as a softphone. It works in modern browsers (no installation is required), on Mac, Windows and Linux desktops, and on mobile phones. Besides basic softphone functionality, it provides instant messaging, group chat (channels), voice and video conferencing, and screen sharing. It integrates with a variety of applications and CRMs such as Salesforce, Zoho, Zendesk,

ZFS, XFS, and EXT4 compared
I have a lot of people whispering "zfs" in my virtual ear these days, and at the same time I have an irrational attachment to xfs based entirely on its lack of the 32000 subdirectory limit. I''m not afraid of ext4''s newness, since really a lot of that stuff has been in Lustre for years. So a-benchmarking I went. Results at the bottom:

Iops Vorbis player
Hi, does anyone have, or know much about, the Iops portable players? Are they better/worse than the players from iriver? I am looking for a USB-thumb-drive style of music player (that plays vorbis of course). >From what I have been able to gather from the Iops website, it suits this purpose, but the site is all in Korean. I was hoping to find someone who had actually purchased one of these

Issues with Twilio number incoming call and context matching
Hello, I am running Asterisk 13.6.0 in an AWS instance, and I set it up with Twilio SIP trunk using pjsip_wizard.conf (nice feature!). I see that the calls actually "reach" the PBX, but for some reason, they are not caught by any of my extensions context. Here's what I observe when I test this from a non-PBX connected E164 number (a landline), say 555-666-1212. My Twilio number is

[storage-discuss] high read iops - more memory for arc?
Pre-fletching on the file and device level has been disabled yielding good results so far. We''ve lowered the number of concurrent ios from 35 to 1 causing the service times to go even lower (1 -> 8ms) but inflating actv (.4 -> 2ms). I''ve followed your recommendation in setting primarycache to metadata. I''ll have to check with our tester in the morning if it made

Performance-Tuning
Hi, I have > 11 TB hard used Mailstorage, saved als maildir in ext3 on HP EVA. I always wanted to make some mesurements about several influences to the performance (switch to ext4, switch to mdbox), but I never had enough time to do that. At the moment I *need* more speed, we have too much waitI/O on the system and I already used all other performance and tuning-tricks (separated cache,

Maximum call handling capacity on single server
Hi I have a server with Quad Core Xeon 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM. I want to use it for PSTN-IP gateway. What is the maximum call handling capacity I can achieve with this server? I want at least 480 concurrent PSTN-IP calls. That mean I will have to install minimum 4 x 4E1 cards and run 480 G.711 RTP sessions. No call recording. No IVR. Pure gateway functionality. Can I achieve this capacity with given
