Fruit/AAPL behavior
I have a share with approximately 5000 folders in the base directory. The
performance on an OS X client is somewhat less than exciting. I compiled
the latest Samba 4.3 tarball and enabled fruit per the modules man page,
however directory listing performance still takes a few seconds.
I've cranked the fruit debug level up to 10 and can see that it is getting
used ("fruit_stat called for

Domain member server: user access
Arg..
wbinfo --gid-info=100
DC: Confirmed, DOMAIN\Domain Users
Member: Fail.
failed to call wbcGetgrgid: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND
Could not get info for gid 100
But both server show the same with :
wbinfo -n "NTDOM\domain users"
So imho, report bug if Rowland can confirm this with a samba from source.

Duplicate xidNumbers
Hello Samba team,
I have 3 production samba DCs version 4.5.1 serving the same domain (2
sites) and all are having the same problems, I believe based on two
duplicate xidNumbers described below.
xidNumbers 3000002 & 3000003 have two SIDs assigned while xidNumbers
3000011 & 3000012 have no SIDs assigned. Is fixing this as simple as
moving one of the duplicates to the empty xidNumber

Slow FIND_FIRST2 response
I'm running Samba 4.0.7 on CentOS 6.4 running double duty as DC and file
server.
OS X clients are taking a _long_ time to list long directories. One
directory with 10K entries is taking 3-4 minutes to display the entries in
Finder.
I captured a few seconds worth of packets and noticed that it's doing three
requests per file:
1. NTCreateAndX - just opens the file
2. Close
3. FIND_FIRST2 -

Windows Remote Assistance fails
I attempted to set up unsolicited remote assistance via group policy, but
connections to the client machines fail.
A network trace show the 'expert' machine doing a TGS-REQ to the DC which
responds with a KRB5KDC_ERR_POLICY. This seems to be the origin of the
problem.
I noticed in the request, the username of the 'novice' is given as the
Server Name but is otherwise pretty

Netatalk and Samba???
Hi all,
Looking for a "best practices" way to share out to both Mac and PC easily.
I know Windoze enables the same sharepoint for both the mac and pc shares
and there don't seem to be any real "problems" by doing that. However I
work in an environment which forces us to utilize Win9x through XP as well
as OS 9 through 10.x on the mac side. I need a user friendly way to

Fwd: Re: Duplicate xidNumbers
Rowland,
Thank you for the quick response.
I have just run net cache flush no change in problem. I have dumped the
idmap.ldp using ldbsearch -H /var/lib/samba/private/idmap.ldb >
idmap.txt and did some sorting, that is how I found the duplicates.

vfs_fruit: xattr imcompatible with netatalk
Hi.
I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha.
I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with
Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible.
The character ":" in EA name is wrong.
The EAs are not seen from clients.
smb.conf:
[test2]
path = /export/test2
writable = yes
vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr

AppleTalk(netatalk)+Samba
Hi folks,
is anybody using those two products together and can give me any advice
on how to do this? My specific issue has been addressed in other posts
before, but as nobody responded, it would just now be interesting if
anybody at least uses those applications together successfully?
greets Malte

move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and
so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to
go get rid of netatalk these days?
is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble
extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them
back in the new format?
afp.conf:
appledouble = ea
ea = samba

When copying files to a Windows 10 client, an error is thrown if the

smbclient kerberos issue
Running Samba 3.2.3 on Debian Lenny, amd64.
I'm joined to an AD realm, authentication works fine for Windows
clients. I'm able to see that the clients are using Kerberos, not NTLM
to authenticate to the shares. However when I look at the keytab, my
entries have the short names like "service/shortname@REALM" instead of
"service/fqdn@REALM". Looking at Windows servers on

Testing kernel and xfs/netatalk
I recently took over a x86_64 CentOS 4.0 server running an "unsupported"
kernel. On examining the box it seems that perhaps it is because of the
use of xfs and netatalk. I would like to update the box to 4.3. I think
I can do away with the netatalk, but doing away with xfs would require a
substantial amount of work.

I don't see it, and can't really think of a good reason why it would happen. This happens in configure? And the first thing you ran was configure, right? No autogen.sh or autoconf/automake?

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,
Joe
