malformed password entry
I have a Sparc Ultra-2 running Solaris 2.7 and Samba version 2.0.5 Most of the time everything works fine, Win95 & WinNT users connect to Samba shares and work. Occasionally, users report not being able to view the Samba server in which case I have them map a drive manually or do a "find computer". There are times when this does not work. I take a look at the logs

Printing stops after upgrading to 3.0.8-2
Dear list subscribers, Recently I upgraded my samba version from 2.0.5 to 3.0.8-2. The setup I use is basically very simple: a W 98 box should be able to access some disk-shares and a printed, connected to a Linux box, running Debian's sarge distribution. Accessing the disks is no problem, but the printer can't be accessed any more. My log.smbd logfile shows lines suggesting

Problems with logging in ...
Dear Listmembers, apparently my attachement was not distributed via the list, therefore I add it once again to this email; plain text following my question. Many thanks for any suggestion in advance: I am using a SPARC ULTRA 60 / running SuSE sparc linux 7.3 as server for our M$-Network. I recently installed samba-2.2.8a from SuSE (compiled src-rpm), since then I am facing problems when attaching

Problem I am having with Samba 2.2.7a and Win2k
Hi ... I am desperate now to solve this problem ... this is my absolute last resort attempt! I have read of the problem on a number of posts/newsgroups/webpages - but there a very little solutions - or causes - none of the solutions have worked for me! Basically my samba is happily running and I can connect to it fine from 9x clients and from 2k client as a workgroup. However..... If I try to

Loooooong logon-times using samba 3.5.6 and Windows 7
Dear samba-users We are experiencing some rather long logon times using SAMBA 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze + Windows 7 and while trying to find out why we raised the loglevel to 5 resulting in a rather large logfile. But this did give us a hint as to why we experience so long logon times. It seems that samba is going through the whole user-database with all usernames and machine-accounts. Eventually

setting passwords from Windows
I'd like to change Samba passwords from win95 and NT4 clients. I use security=user. I don't give shell access to every user, so they can't use smbpasswd. I've tested from a win95 client with the precompiled samba-2.0.4b.i386.rpm: net pass \\greg greg test1 test2 I'd used smbpasswd to change greg's password to test1 on host greg prior to this. Here's the smbpasswd

Bug? backup_dir sometimes reported on STDOUT, sometimes not.
Running rsync 3.0.6 on OS X 10.5.7 (on a MacBook Pro) and using the -b flag (and -v --verbose), the "backup_dir" is reported in the output, but sometimes on STDOUT and sometimes somewhere else. Note that the rsync daemon running on the "server" is 2.6.9 (on another MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.7) For example, in bash, this happens: axe-MBP:bin work$ /usr/local/bin/rsync

Unix password Sync
Ive just discovered that my previous email is wrong - the password sync does in fact work under Solaris fine. What is happening however is that when I create a new account, and call smbpasswd $user as root, it only updates the SMB password and not the Unix password as well. I though I could change my call to /bin/passwd in my new user creation scrip with /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd -a, but as

getsmbfilepwent problem - Samba concerned with negative UIDs
All, Since installing my shiny new Samba3 PDC (3.0.23d, ldapsam backend), I've had one recurring issue that's been driving me nuts. Once a minute, Samba on one of the client servers logs the following: getsmbfilepwent: user name cmeyer2 has a negative uid. getsmbfilepwent: user name jhundley has a negative uid. Running pdbedit does the same thing: boothost:/var/log# pdbedit -Lvu

I have been using (actually inheareted the system) a file for the Samba password database using since something during the 2.0 erra. New accounts have been successfully added and users are apparently logging in ok. After installing 3.0.6 I am seeing these things in my log (log level=3). mod_smbfilepwd_entry: Using old smbpasswd format. This is no longer supported.! 1. What is the

Cannot export all my users using pdbedit
Hello again, I'm trying to move all my users from an old Samba server to a new Samba AD server. When I try to do a 'classicupgrade' the process crashes after a while without giving me a clear indication of what is going wrong. When I try to export the users using pdbedit -e smbpasswd , some of the accounts simply fail. If I look at the output I see something like: Processing

new option suggestion '--backup-only'
Hi, How about adding now option '--backup-only' that means making backups only and don't change any destination files? (I posted similar patch a month ago, but the patch was made for nightly snapshot of 20020808, which was tooo old! Laugh at me...) I want to use rsync with LVM snapshot to make incremental backups like below: 1) Make LVM snapshot of file system and mount it.

smbclient not using winbind to authenticate
Hi All I am using the samba 3.0.14a RPMs installed on SuSE 9.2. I have a PDC running on one machine, using tdbsam as a backend - this has been running fine for months. I am not trying to set up a standalone server in another office, which should authenticate with the PDC using winbind, as per the "The 500-User office" chapter of samba by example :
