Performance issue
Hi,
I suspect a CPU bottleneck in one of our PostgreSQL servers but not sure
how to confirm the suspect.
It's a DELL Box running CentOS 5.4 with 64GB RAM and 16 XEON E7430 2.13 GHz
processors. vmstat r column "run queue" usually indicates values higher
than 2 and less than 5 but "Load Average" values from top, sar -q and other
commands show always values less than 1.

I''m wondering if there is an easy way to distinguish between SP2 and SP3 on a SLES 10 installation.
Thanks,

Installing rvm on SLES 11 sp3(SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11)
Hello everyone.
Does anyone had experience of installing rvm for this linux server?
During rvm installation an error pops up that says i dont have the
following libs: sqlite-devel gdbm-devel zlib-devel openssl-devel
ncurses-devel readline-devel. Sudo zypper update says that its already
up to date. When i try to install all of these libs it can't find any of
them. Do i need some specific

As mentioned on http://people.redhat.com/~rjones/virt-top/, you might
get a better response by asking the virt-tools list (added in cc).

Problem building R with Sun Studio Compiler on SLES 9 SP3
In a previous thread I had problems on openSuse 10.2 building R with optimisation and discovered that if I wanted
optimisation I need to turn on
-fstore -fsimple1 (the first is to force storage on some Fortran routines , the second is to ensure IEEE arithmetic,
with some optimisation).
That worked for my desktop. The real problem is to work on our servers (Opterons running SLES9SP3)
Make works

build problem on SuSE SLES 8 SP3 (s390) - struct statfs redefinition?
Has anyone had any problems building on SuSE SLES 8 for s390 with all
patches applied... After applying patches to my build server last night,
building samba fails with the following...

Building virt-top to SLES 11 SP3
Hi all,
I was curious whether anyone has successfully built virt-top (version 1.0.8) on SUSE SLES11 SP3. SUSE's ocaml support is rather limited, so I've built ocaml 4.00.1 from source and installed the necessary dependencies using Opam.
I'm still running into a compile error on virt_top.ml, line 697:
Error: This expression has type int -> D.typed_param list array
but an

readline() for passwords?
I don't like to have my password exposed by typing at all. I also don't like
to enter it each time that I wish to open a database (or when I run scripts
automatically across a Linux cluster). My solution has been to keep a file
in my HOME directory containing the username and password for the databases.
This file has read and write permission set so only I (and root) can read
it; this is

Samba 2.2.5-1, Error Creating Directories
Hi!
This is a really weird problem, I hope, someone can help me out there.
First of all, I put my smb.conf on the web, you can find it here[0].
The Sambaserver (ESS-LINUX) is just an ordinary workstation (in the
terms of SMB) and uses the PDC (ESS_SERVER) for authentication (see
"password server"-directive).
Nearly everything works fine. Each authenticated user gets his

not enough charcters available in %J or confusing blanks?
Hi,
I try to create PDF files with an modified script from Buchan Milne and
have some problems with the Jobname var %J.
Because it is better for the users to find an file with an similar name
as the original document I'm looking for a way to read out %J, cut some
unnessasary stuff and use the rest as new file name. The problem is:
In %J in some circumstances is not the complete Jobname as

samba w/o openvpn: OK - else strange issues
Hello,
I do have a very strange behavior. For some reason, I only observe
this, when I access a samba share through an openvpn tunnel.
(1) objective
have a share, have SECURITY USERS (to control access rights), but NULL
PASSWORDS (authentication is fine enough by vpn). Find config files
below.
This is samba 3.3.2. Openvpn 2.1_rc11.
(2) issue
I connect via vpn from winXP ... fine

Glusterfs/CTDB/Samba file locking problem
Hi guys,
I try to set up two identical installed up to date CentOS6 machines with Glusterfs/CTDB/Samba .
I have set up Glusterfs and it works. I have set up CTDB from CentOS and it seems to work too.
Samba is AD integrated and works mainly.
The main problem is that file locking seem to not work between the machines at all. If two Win7 clients try to open an document
from the same Samba server
