How does one "look at AD" in Samba4.1?
Hi all,
I'm in the process of setting up a test network with the view of
rebuilding our existing (Samba 3.5-based) NT domain, from scratch.
Most of the clients that will be connecting to it are Windows 7
machines, there is one Windows 8.1 Standard machine (that won't be
joining, but not my problem), and a number of Windows XP virtual
machines. Presently I'm running a network

Domain member workstations on DHCP
Hi all,
We're in the process of rolling out Samba4 on our network, with Active
Directory and I've been re-configuring the Linux workstations that
currently were joined to the old NT4-style domain.
It hit me in particular when I read this bit:

"samba-tool user add" and idmap shenanigans
Hi all,
We're in the process of finally moving from our aging Samba3-based
infrastructure across to Samba4.
Rather than trying to migrate, we're just making a clean break so that
we can do it properly from day one, as there were likely some mistakes
that were made years ago we want to leave behind.
The machines under test are virtual machines running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
AMD64. I've

samba-tool illegal instruction setting up Kerberos auth for http

Has anyone noticed this behaviour in samba-tool? I was trying to do the

Convert string for expression in plot
Hi,
Although I understand how to use expression and paste to add
superscripts and symbols to my graphs, I have a problem with adding
superscripts to an existing string.
For example, I read in the following from a separate file:
25Mg(p,g)
I want to convert that to superscripts etc. (in LaTex format):
$^{25}$Mg(p,$\gamma$)
This needs to then be put into a graph title.
Any ideas? I know that I

Using voice modem as poor man's FXO in Asterisk 1.8
Hi all,
I've tried researching this, and so far, have struggled to find any
contemporary information on the issue, so I do apologise if asking this
irritates people who have answered this before.
I have managed to set up Asterisk 1.8 on the web server here. I have
two softphones (Ekiga) able to communicate with it. So far so good.
I'm now curious to see if I can link it with the PSTN

Replacing Win2000 DC with Samba4 - Success!
Hi!
Just wanted to share a little success story:
We where asked to replace a Win2000 DC deployed by another company
which is'nt existing any more. As our focus is software development on
linux we wanted to deploy a Samba-server instead of Windows.
So after some trial and error and a lot of reading and asking (many
thanks to all that tried to help!) in mailing-lists and forums we

DFS queries via rpcclient to Windows 2012 Server fails
Hello,
We previously had Win2008 R2 DCs which we have begun to replace with Win2012 servers (forest is still at 2008 level however). I was able to query DFS via rpcclient but now I find that I am unable to.
I know that SMB3 was introduced in Win2012 but I believe that it should auto-negotiate earlier versions. I did however test from v4.1.9 as well, unfortunately that still fails.

Samba + Winbind ADS on Win2012 AD with Native 2003 domain forest level
Hello,
I am trying to connect samba to our NEW DCs running win2012 AD. Now I
can join samba using net join and winbind lists users and groups but
USER AUTH fails at by using smbclient and wbinfo -a. Error that I get is
ACCESS DENIED. Now I'm guessing that something must be blocked on
Windows servers that does not allow Winbind to authenticate. I tryed

Changing password server to win 2012
Hi list,
My goal is to share a few shares from a solaris 9 host with a new win2012
domain. Im rather new to solaris (some years of linux exp, but samba has
been a LONG time ago)
The solaris machine has been created as a machine account in AD under its
hostname by the windows admins in the new win2012 domain. (Thats not me,
although I have domain admin access if need be)
I have an issue changing

HyperV (win2012) storage on Samba4
Hi,
I'm trying to expose a linux share via Samba4 to serve as a VM backing
store (storage) for HyperV VMs running on Win2012 R2 Standard server. The
system details are:
Intel(R) Xeon CPU.
64 bit operating system.
I'm not sure if SMB3 is fully supported by Samba 4(codebase corresponds to
"master" git branch). The VM deployment fails while trying to create *.vhdx
file; the error
