Simple File I/O benchmark tool for NT clients
Hi, I need a simple tool for benchmarking my NT client against my Ubuntu Samba server. I get 20MB/s during a file copy but I think my limit is the client's hard disk. Dose anyone know a simple exe tool which simulate file I/O agains the Samba server. I like to avoid using my lokal disk during the test. Have looked around but can't find a simpe tool which dose the job without the need of

rsync 3.0.9 hangs when syncing from NFSv3 share - possible to retry after timeout?
Hello, I'm using rsync 3.0.9 to backup several NFS shares from a fileserver, mounted over NFSv3, to a local RAID on a backup server. Both servers are running Ubuntu 12.04 server LTS. The fileserver's filesystem is ext4. The NFS shares are mounted on the backup server as follows: fileserver:/mnt/storage/share1 /mnt/share1 type nfs (ro,tcp,bg,soft,intr,addr=192.168.1.1)

How can I remove these log entries 'Failed to create Users' and 'Failed to create Administrators'
Hi, I have a very small setup, one XP/clinet and one Vista/client and a Ubuntu/samba server. I like to cleanup my log.smbd but I can't figure out how! I have everything up and running and I can access the share's from the XP client. I googled around and it seems that I should bind some Windows group/user against Unix group/users with something like 'net groupmap add rid=2512

[PATCH] supporting a remote scp path option in scp
Hi there, I've written some enhancements to scp.c and pathnames.h to enable the scp to arbitrarily set the remote scp path. (eg $ scp -e /usr/bin/scp foo user at bar:foo) I did read the "scp: command not found" FAQ entry but I'm not quite sure why we can't do this, unless it's because enhancements to scp are no longer a priority. Any other reason why it "is the

Errors for shares since 4.12.0
Hi, I tried samba 4.12.0 on our file server which is a domain member and exporting some shares. We're getting some strange errors on some shares since the update. Right after starting or restarting smbd everything is fine. After short while (seconds or a few minutes) users are getting errors when trying to access the shares, e.q. "Invalid Handle Error", "An unexpected

DFS share: free space?
Hi, is it possible, to use DFS and show the correct values of free space? I set up a DFS-share located on filesystem1 (size 50GB) and linked shares of another server to this share (msdfs:<fs>\share): share1: size 110TB share2: size 50TB share3: size 20TB But connecting to the DFS-share, the disk size of this network drive ist 50GB. Unfortunately files larger than 50GB can not be copied

New hack against BSD, Linux is _mostly_ safe from it.
My housemate has formalized a sortof new attack against unix-style operating systems. He''s a BSD fan, so that''s where he developed the attack. He asked me to check Linux, which I did. It seems Linux is not vulnerable to it. This attack is going out to BUGTRAQ tonight. The attack isn''t too serious because it requires physical access to the console, but it

username check in scp
Hi a fellow debian developer pointed it out to me, that ssh itself does not check the username that is provided for login into a remote host, but that scp checks it. I could verify that the current openssh code from cvs still has a check for the username in scp.c but not in ssh.c. So I created the attached small patch to remove the username check from scp. I hope ?t's correct and that you

Erase the source file open; specify a tempfile name option
I'm curious how to go about submitting a suggestion that affects both the original BSD version and the portable release. A few days ago I sent off a BSD-relative patch to openssh at openssh.com. Is this the right thing to do? I didn't hear anything back, but it's only been 3 days, so I'm probably just being too antsy. In the meantime, maybe someone else out there would like to

Announcing SoapBX.com a new Rails App for making presentations
I got an idea less than two weeks ago and now as a testament to the power of Rails I have released the first initial beta version of SoapBx, with less than 20 hours of programming involved so far. SoapBX is an application to create css based presentations and uses Erik Meyer''s cool S5 css and js code: http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/ With SoapBX you can use basic Textile and a

Scriptaculous and Prototype based Rich Text Editor
Hi Guys, I'm currently using the Dojo Rich text editor on my site https://wideword.net but am not 100% happy with it as I'm a prototype kind of guy. So I started writing this Rich Text Editor the other day on an experiment. I used the In Place Editor as a template for it and have gotten it to more or less work under IE and Gecko. Unfortunately it still isn't working on Safari ( The

Hi all- I''m hoping someone can help me with this problem with Xen under CentOS 5.1 (RHEL 5.1) I''m having... This is the Xen package that comes stock with the distribution, I didn''t compile it from source. I can boot Domain0 and the hypervisor just fine. I''m trying to bring up a Xen guest VM and it crashes on boot, with this error: # xm create -c tcga1

More scp changes
If you've applied my previous scp patch with the tempfile options and the erase option, here's a diff that tweaks it a bit more. Previously I had decided to use getcwd() in a certain local-to-local special case (that needs to use scp rather than regular cp). This was because spawing scp via ssh resets the current directory. This patch choose to forego that in favor of a simpler

Like Netware share ??
Most of you will probably think about this "It's not a real problem". But not my boss. I want to exchange our Netware server with a linux/SMABA one but my boss wants to have on the new server exactly the same directories structure like in the Netware server. And here it is what I couldn't done : user X wich have two secondary groups Y and Z must browse in Win95 _only_ the Y and

[BUG] clear ACL-s on destination
Destroy ACL-s on destination when no ACL-s differens between source and destination. Bug is somehow related with function send_file_name() called with negative file descriptor f. There is no such bug in 2.6.9 version, but there options "-X -A --deleted" can't be used (we have "Internal error: wrong write used in receiver."). If I fix this, avoid calling send_acl() &
