winbind group membership
Hi. FreeBSD 8.2 Samba 3.5.11 from ports I have an issue with group membership. id shows only small part of the groups a user is member of. I'm aware about UNIX max group issue, but this isn't related to it - for example for a user which is member of the 6 griups id shows only 3. Although wbinfo -r shows correct number of groups and wbinfo -G is able to successfully translate UNIX

zpool on a zvol inside zpool
Hi. I'm moving some of my geli installation to a new machine. On an old machine it was running UFS. I use ZFS on a new machine, but I don't have an encrypted main pool (and I don't want to), so I'm kinda considering a way where I will make a zpool on a zvol encrypted by geli. Would it be completely insane (should I use UFS instead ?) or would it be still valid ? Thanks. Eugene.

samba4 and squid with NTLM auth
Hi. Samba-4.0.7 FreeBSD 10.0-CURRENT Besides serving files I'm using Samba to authenticate users in the Windows AD with squid. After having issues with samba 3.6.16 I decided to see if samba4 will fit me more. I was surprised, but I found that Samba 4 is fully functional in my environment and is nearly production-ready. After that I tried to setup squid to use samba for NTLM authentication.

PROBE domain
Hi. After an upgrade from 3.0.34 to 3.4.x or 3.5.x (I run samba on FreeBSD, and, ufortunately, 3.0.x branch was just removed from FreeBSD ports) I notices that I got a new domain PROBE, not referenced in any of my configs. Previously it was only a BUILTIN domain, now there are two of them. As the number of predefined domains continues to grow - I want to ask, if there is any possibility to

crash when trying to upgrade from 2.0.x to 2.3.x
Hello, I'm trying to migrate dovecot mail database from 2.0.9 on Linux to 2.3.20 on FreeBSD. I've rsync'd the entire database, grabbed all the configs, changed the paths and permission, but when trying to access the mail from Thunderbird I have reproducible crash in the logs: ===Cut=== Feb 14 17:12:10 it-r-support dovecot[5888]: auth-worker(6378): Debug: mysql(localhost):

Winbind process stuck at 100% after changing use_mmap to no
Hi, We've had a strange issue after following the recommendations at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ping_pong, particularly the part about mmap coherence. We are running CTDB/Samba over a MooseFS clustered FS, and we'd not done the ping-pong before. After finding that the mmap coherence test did not pass, we changed "use mmap" to "no" in smb.conf. This morning

samba 3.5.6, winbindd and getent/id
Hi. I'm using samba to authenticate squid users in Windows AD, and to provide 'em some statistics on the Internet usage. As this requires the existence of windows users in Unix environment, I use nsswitch.conf and nss_winbind.so to map users in Unix environment via samba as domain member (security = ads) and its winbindd daemon. As of samba 3.5.6 I'm expiriencing some major

Failed to find cifs/foo.bar in keytab MEMORY:cifs_srv_keytab (arcfour-hmac-md5)]
Hi. I'm using Samba 4.3.11 as a domain member on FreeBSD 10.x. Some of my users (around 1%) are experiencing problems from time to time, browsing this server's shares in Windows Explorer - it starts to ask for the password. It doesn't ask the password while accesssing it via it's IP address, and I see in its logs the following (when accessing it via its name): [2016/09/20

[LLVMdev] Minimum Python Version
> several people already asked what are the concrete benefits of breaking support for end-of-life python versions? Generally I think the only compelling argument is "for a given level of maintenance effort, you either sacrifice support for old-dead versions, or new versions", and obviously new versions should be preferred. The question is how much does it cost to interoperate. On

Analysis of the Microsoft Settlement from a Samba perspective.
The Samba Team would welcome Microsoft documenting its proprietary server protocols. Unfortunately this isn't what the settlement stipulates. The settlement states : "E. Starting nine months after the submission of this proposed Final Judgment to the Court, Microsoft shall make available for use by third parties, for the sole purpose of interoperating with a Windows Operating System

SIPit 26 in Sweden - organized by Edvina
Friends, SIPit is the main interoperability event for all things SIP. It's organized by the SIP Forum and creates good feedback to the IETF. Asterisk has been participating in SIPit during many years and in many variants - videocaps, Marc Blanchet's IPv6 branch and the standard Digium releases. All these tests has lead to a large amount of improvements for Asterisk and have helped us

(Fwd) vfs_recycle and create mode 770
I'd like to use the recycle as a per machine recycler using the option 'name = .recycle/%m' (because we just use some usernames without passwords, and not because of the adminstrators abilties, but for a better workflow with a lot of different projects and people working on them.) But if a directory is created the vfs recycle uses the rights 700, and i have found no way around it

[PATCH v4 0/4] virtio: Clean up scatterlists and use the DMA API
Let me try to summarize a proposal: Add a feature flag that indicates IOMMU support. New kernels acknowledge that flag on any device that advertises it. New kernels always respect the IOMMU (except on PowerPC). New kernels optionally refuse to talk to devices that don't have that feature flag if the device appears to be behind an IOMMU. (This presumably includes any device whatsoever on

automatically authenticate domain logged-on users ina pache with AD/NTDOM?
Yeah, "interoperate over either NTLM or Kerberos to provide SSO", that's exactly what I'm talking about! Only, I want to trade IIS for apache@unix. I can still use Explorer@windows for clients. Very interesting, though, that Mozilla has been kerberized. I knew it would happen, but I haven't read anything about that. Thanks for the input, Palle --On fredag 22 oktober
